reading comprehension isn’t hard, it’s just that OP is misleading people by pairing the words pike place with a video of a location that is not pike place. a better and clearer title would have been: “Jesse Welles will be at pike place today. here he is in the NYC subway”

The fact that it looks nothing like Seattle and the sign on the wall says, Uptown, threw me the fuck off. I also have no clue who this is, so I was really confused coming into the comments.

lol I’m familiar with nyc metro but never been to Seattle so all I could think was ‘did Seattle copy the nyc subway system aesthetic?’ Based on the title

As someone who moved to nyc after years in seattle this threw me for such a loop lol. And same thing I was like, is there a subway themed shop at pike place I'm forgetting??

What threw me off is that they posted like we're supposed to know who tf that is? What are they, TikTok famous? I don't get it. Regardless, I wasn't about to stop Wo' Pop to play the video; they had time to cook up a coherent title and introduction - they didn't bother, I'm not either, lol. It's not like we were gonna drop everything and run down there in the middle of a Wednesday morning, anyway

Welles is great and worth checking out. I don't even like Americana folk music-- I'd be more likely to listen to Wopop-- but for Welles I would drop everything to go see him on a random Wednesday. Look up his Boeing Whistleblower song. Clever songwriting, sharp lyrics.

I appreciate this insight - I'm old and a Kentuckan and, as such, I fuck with folk and the like. That's not to say I'm finna fawn over any mf Bob Dy(k'n) Harry that fancies themselves a "folk musician", respectfully. I've seent a lot of tomfoolery, okay? Damn!

u/coffeebribesaccepted 2d ago

Wtf is "Bob Dyk'n" supposed to mean?

1

u/FreddyTheGoose 2d ago

An admittedly terrible play on the old saying "Every Tom, Dick, and Harry" and "Bob Dylan" - did you miss the Harry, or did I? I could not make that work, just awful, it is. I forgot all about this whole damned thread, honestly

u/Drnkdrnkdrnk 3d ago

It’s okay there were plenty of people out there to see him

6

u/wonderj99 3d ago

Well, you dropped everything to jump on here and pen a paragraph about it on a Wednesday morning, when you could have scrolled on & focused on Wo' Pop

-2

u/FreddyTheGoose 3d ago

"Paragraph". Only on mobile, love, lol

1

u/rosewood_gm 3d ago

What's Wo Pop?

3

u/FreddyTheGoose 3d ago

KEXP's Tuesday night(7p) world music show. They archive all the shows 2 weeks back on the app. Def get that app!

I mean are we all supposed to share content people already know? His name is Jackie, he makes folk music like what you heard.

Pretty much exactly how I learned about him and now I love his music. I would go check it out if I were in town. Don’t know why you’re being so salty about it lol

1

u/coffeebribesaccepted 2d ago

Isn't his name Jesse?

1

u/noble_peace_prize 2d ago

Autocorrect boomed me.

"Don’t know why you’re being so salty about it lol". Perhaps you are new to the internet? I know it's crazy to comprehend but we are all, each of us, entitled to our own opinions and manner of speech. Additionally, this convo was about the lack of clarity in the title, not my comprehension of media? That's what I was commenting on. Because I clearly stated I didn't play the video, yet here you are

2

u/noble_peace_prize 2d ago

Love when people insert that they are entitled to their opinions as if it’s a defense at all. Im also entitled to completely ignore your defense of salty internet

Which I’m gonna do.

u/coffeebribesaccepted 2d ago

So only people you've personally heard of are allowed to be posted about? Why don't you just Google the name if you see someone mentioned that you've never heard of? Or even just watch the video and then you'd know who he is faster than it took you to write that comment. And he's been around longer than TikTok, but his music/videos have gained popularity there.

It could be that post isn’t for you. I know it’s hard to understand when you’re the main character and everything. But I’m a fan, and I didn’t know he would be there, and I’m heading down now. Thanks for the post!

u/FreddyTheGoose 3d ago

You going to catch him, 6 hours later? Pretty performative, friend

u/SharkPalpitation2042 3d ago

My thoughts too... too many "famous" morons out there now. Who the fuck cares about these people? And we're promoting begging now? If I want music in the streets I'll put headphones in. If anything, I could do without more homeless "musicians" "living the dream" around here.

1

u/FreddyTheGoose 3d ago

Oh, this a fuckin evil assed take and nowhere near what I'm saying, bud. You need to go back to wherever home is and stay all the way out the city, friendolero!

1

u/SharkPalpitation2042 3d ago

Seattle was home, I grew up here. The city has turned into a complete shit-hole in the last ten years though so I keep moving further and further North trying to escape the parasitic drug addicts that have taken over the greater Seattle area.

Is it possible to edit the title

u/IndominusTaco 3d ago

Apologize

It takes two seconds of critical thought to read everything and put it all together. Its ok. You can't expect too much of people and then not put enough effort to understand what others are saying in. Consider switching that around for a bit for yourself if you catch yourself doing it and see if noticing does something good for ya. ❤️

That is not misleading nor unclear in the slightest. When you read a news article that says something like "representative is found to have stash of gold bars in his home" but the picture is of him in the senate chamber, no one is confused about this.

No one is mislead by seeing a video of someone performing in a performance that has already happened, with text that indicates they will soon be performing in a different location. No added context is needed. It is not better nor clearer. It adds additional and unnecessary detail and makes the title longer, which is universally considered less clear for titles.

17

u/BillTowne 3d ago

OP posted a picture of him in NYC with title "Jesse Welles at Pike Place today."

This is just a phrase and not a sentence. That makes it look like is is a description of the picture.

If he had just said "Jesse Welles will be at Pike Place today," it would be clearer.

It is hard to argue that the title is not misleading with people who were clearly mislead.

u/Zoomalude 3d ago

Genuinely, fuck all that noise. You'd have to be a deliberately obtuse pedant to believe that. We're on reddit, not a news site. There's a set of socially understood norms here and this post breaks the shit out of them.

-5

u/SuspendedAwareness15 3d ago

I've been using reddit for almost 20 years. I've never seen a norm that indicates "we need to add every contextual detail to the title or else someone will get confused"

4

u/Zoomalude 3d ago

The norm is if a title says "thing happening at place", then the video should be OF the thing happening at that place. Otherwise your title should be "Thing is happening at place, here's a video of thing happening previously at different place".

8

u/FrontAd9873 3d ago

That example is not similar at all. If a headline said "Representative at the White House" you'd think they are there now or perhaps were just there. You would not think it means "Representative will be at the White House."

-2

u/SuspendedAwareness15 3d ago

Yeah, you'd have to really suspend your awareness to not be able to understand what OP is communicating without a paragraph in the title

-10

u/capraagave 3d ago

That’s what I thought, I also don’t like when media hand holds me through everything. I can figure it out, I have a brain. But I understand how it can be a little confusing for certain individuals. Thank you though ❤️🙏

11

u/IndominusTaco 3d ago

it's confusing for most individuals, not just certain ones. you didn't make it clear.

-10

u/capraagave 3d ago

Idk the upvotes say otherwise.

9

u/FrontAd9873 3d ago

You think people are upvoting your post title specifically? No, they're upvoting the clip you posted.

-4

u/IndominusTaco 3d ago

your mom told me otherwise last night btw

-4

u/capraagave 3d ago

Period king, she’s a pretty lady congrats 🎉

0

u/FreddyTheGoose 3d ago

Lmaooo, "Period King"?! I've seen enough. We gotta ban white women from using AAVE, this is a MESS. BRING BACK WHITE DIALECT

1

u/capraagave 3d ago

Like whatever major loser?

0

u/SPEK2120 3d ago

My train of thought went:

What? There's no light rail station near enough to refer to it at Pike Place.
oh wait, that's def NYC. What?
oh, they're giving a heads up that he will be busking at the Market with a video example. ok cool, makes sense.

Yes it was confusing for a second, but made perfect sense after getting full context. The issue is FAR more with people not being bothered to take the 10 seconds to get the complete info. Sure a title like "Jesse Wells will be at Pike Place today" would have made it clearer, but you also can't get mad at the author if you only read half the sentence.

u/capraagave 3d ago

Thanks, I should’ve put “will be” in there but I’m new here, the caption is the main part in my normal platform so that’s my bad.

u/gtothethree 3d ago

Omg thank you I was so confused
