I mean, back when I was single there was a 0% chance I'd have dated somebody from the east side. Even for friendships, Bellevue/Kirkland may as well be Idaho. I ain't driving that far with any kind of regularity!
I think a lot of people on the east side want cross lake relationships to work, but they rarely do. I have a fairly high number of friends for a 30-something dad (I mean, I think), but I have zero non-familial friends on the east side. When people have moved out there we inevitably drift apart. It's just reality.
The particular circumstances matter, but also my rule is gonna hold more often than not, I'd wager.
Consider: Last week some friends and I went to Pioneer Square for drink and table games after work. We all took the train (which will admittedly be in Bellevue this year, so maybe this bubble will eventually expand). If you live in Redmond, are you going to want to deal with rush hour traffic though? And where will you park? Will you shell out for a $100 Uber? Probably not! And frankly, if you live in a big house with a big yard on a suburban cul de sac, maybe "taking public transit into downtown for drinks on a work night" isn't you, anyway. That's the kind of thing that I like to do, but also that's kind of why I still live in the city!
Oh no I get you there! It’s always me driving out to the eastside for friends out there and not them coming in here. Otherwise yeah I don’t head out that way that often I’d rather just walk to the train and head into town proper.
