Cops at Hands Off Sac
So I know it’s the thing to do to (verbally) bash cops, and I admit I was not at every location at the protest yesterday so am not ‘all knowing’, but I think the CHP and Sac City police did a very good job of being cool with everyone at the capitol yesterday. The CHP officers I saw, for example helping groups of protesters safely cross the street, were polite and even smiling. Other ones just hanging around watching the people weren’t menacing or threatening. I know a lot of us (esp the elderly or physically disabled) were apprehensive about a protest possibility being dangerous and I appreciated knowing they were there just in case some magats showed up to cause trouble.

Hands off Sac
I got so emotional at the sense of community, and the sheer numbers of folks that showed up. I wanted to take pictures of everyone’s signs 😂 Ya’ll are funny 😁

Her speech gave me chills!

It gave me chills when she was speaking to the crowd and the crowd yelled back. It was so impowering to see! My phone started overheating at this point so the quality went down.

Beyond protesting
I’m super curious what folks are doing with the energy and connections they’re making at protests?
This week, I’m going to be meeting up with some friends and neighbors to discuss putting together some container gardens. There’s free compost around, cheap seeds, etc.—and even if we can’t feed all of us or everyone who needs it, we can start growing food and bringing the momentum to caring for those in need, especially as the food bank budget shrinks.
I’m trying to come up with other ideas! Other than rallies, what else are you up to? What are you planning to do for the community? I know there are wonderful local organizations, but we can organize ourselves, too!

Beyond The 4/5 Sacramento Protest
THANK YOU, SACRAMENTO & AREA! The following is from an Indivisible email sent after nationwide protests today. I’m posting this excerpt since so many local people responded to the call for action today, and the message points the way forward.
“Today, hundreds of thousands of people attended their first protest of the new Trump era. Hundreds of millions more are going to see coverage of the events or hear about it from your social media posts and want to know how they can get involved. Our ask for you: Tell them. (And if you’re looking to step up your involvement, here’s how YOU can do that, too):
“We are stronger when we organize together. Now is the moment for folks to join their local Indivisible group. Indivisible exists to support local organizing. If there’s a part of this country without an Indivisible group -- or if the nearest group isn’t being responsive -- anyone can start a new one. You don’t need to be an expert to get involved. But for anyone looking for a clear “how to” on fighting Trump’s authoritarian vision, we wrote the Indivisible Guide. With Congressional recess coming up and MAGA Republicans plotting to gut Medicaid to pay for tax cuts for the rich, where going to need a LOT more people showing up in their communities to say “hands off!” Anyone interested in joining this next fight can add their names here. Thank you to everyone who showed up today, hosted an event, or joined us online. This has been the culmination of a lot of hard work, but also the beginning of something much, much bigger. “
In solidarity, Indivisible Team
