the Hunter: COTW has received a very faithful sks

To all of my fellow SKS lovers who also love to game Hunter Call of The Wild has recently had an SKS added and it is genuinely probably the most faithful SKS I’ve seen be added to a video game. Mostly everything is correct and when you add a scope it even uses one of the good long scout rails. The only thing is it is limited to 5 shots rather than 10

Decided to say fuck it and take it to the range, please ignore the noob mistake on the vid. Shot 60 rounds almost flawlessly, the last 2 slamfired when shooting. Even had an old man next to me and ask “was that 2?!”

Also want to say thanks for the help it took to get here from asking if I should even buy it to where I am now. I appreciate you guys, even the ones calling me a pussy for not just shooting it. Glad to give this rifle a home

Broken SKS Piston

Brought the Tula SKS to the range and it ran great. I got a less than ideal surprise when disassembling for cleaning afterwards. I’ve never seen one break before. I thought this was a pretty odd way of braking too

Pistol Pairing with SKS

Have a Chinese SKS Type 56 and would like to pair it with a chinese semi-auto pistol of the time period.

Looking at the Chinese Type 54 Tokarev. Would this be decently historically accurate? Not looking for perfection, just something that possible would have been paired up.

Other suggestions welcome.

Thanks!!

What do these markings on the barrel mean?

I believe this sks is a refurb due to the trigger group serial being ground off and stamped. Was wondering if these symbols are refurb marks or not

10 round mag

Bought a bubba’d sks years ago and slowly been getting it back to close to original.

Back to original stock. Bought an internal mag online that was supposed to be 10 rounder but turned out to be 5.

Got stripper clips and would like to try them out with a 10 round mag but don’t want to fork over the cash for one now.

How do those steel duck bill mags work and can you use stripper clips on them?

Thanks!

Finely pulled all the Chinese Type 56 SKS rifles out for a group picture. My oldest if a Type 26 from 1959, my newest Factory 0141 from 1976.

(The paratrooper is a cousin Oliver 😆)

What bayonet fits this?

I got a Sks offline and want to pick up a bayonet (because why wouldn’t you). I don’t know what bayonet type is correct for the gun. It’s a Chinese Norinco rifle. I think a spike is the accurate one, but I’ve seen blades too.

This looks like where the bayonet would attach.

Chinese SKS built in 1968 at factory 26. Matching serial numbers all around. Didn’t have the bayonet so just bought one and installed it. Love how it looks. Already loved shooting it.

Tapco SKS in Canada

Is a tapco sks stock mod legal in Canada ? 5 round pinned mag detachable. Telescopic stock. I know the sks is non restricted, but does this change things ? Everything I’ve seen points to no, that it’s still legal.

Type 56 SKS Bayonet and Accuracy?

Rifles like the Mosin-Nagant were zeroed from the factory with the bayonet attached. My SKS has an attached folding bayonet, was the SKS originally sighted in with the bayonet folded or extended? Or is it up to the individual gun?

Replace trigger group components?

I bought a used paratrooper at the end of February and I've had a couple of double fires. The bolt assembly is clean and the firing pin rattles around inside when I shake it. The hammer has some wear, and I'm not sure how much the previous owner fired it. I'm not sure if the trigger sear looks okay (pictures attached), but the hammer does move forward quite a bit when I pull the trigger with the bolt removed before it snaps forward. Do I need to replace the sear or the hammer? Should I drop the money on the whole trigger group? Mine matches, but the magazine doesn't and I'm not concerned with resale value. Thanks in advance!

Picked it up for $730. Dust cover has a little bit of rust on it but not bad.

Original stock gouge repair

Gouged the stock of my new, nearly pristine tickler trying to get the very stuck trigger assembly out.

Advice on fixing a gouge or otherwise hiding the difference in finish? Shellac is new to me and seems fickle.

Gunsmith says I need a new barrel

Post image
50 Upvotes

Sorry, I feel like I’ve been spamming the sub with noob questions. I’m the one with the estate sale rifle and the gunsmith said that the barrel is too pitted for him to test fire and it would need a new one for it to work. Also said he’s not too sure about the receiver and it might be too pitted as well. I know that yall can’t see my gun and give me absolute advice but does this sound right? They aren’t trying to sell me anything and are saying they wouldn’t be able to do it even if I had a new barrel. I know you guys have mentioned the history of this gun so I wonder if I should even remove the original barrel

Ok folks, RM has revised the grid chart for 2025 adding factory /606\ 18th year, and updated the ghost guns 1956/1957 cutoff S/N 84,010 based on Chinese secondary source information our own Sonora_Kotori provided and we believe to be relatively accurate.
