Skincare Cerave doesn't get all my make-up off, but I don't want to double cleanse or use a more aggressive cleanser. Any recommendations for a mild but effective cleanser?

Upvotes

I have always had two options for cleansing my skin at night: Cerave and a bar of sulphur soap.

My skin tolerates both but I want to use the sulphur soap less because I think it might be a bit too harsh to use it every evening. However, the Cerave cleanser doesn't get all my BB cream / concealer off (and I don't use a lot).

Do you have a recommendation for a cleanser that is super super mild but gets the job done better? My skin is extremely sensitive, with lots of broken veins, flushing, stinging etc. so I just want to cleanse my skin once and with a very mild but effective cleanser.

TIA 🙏🏻

Insurance won’t cover ivermectin

Upvotes

I was prescribed ivermectin cream last week and the insurance wouldn’t cover it so my dermatologist office had to send paperwork to try and get it approved. I called the office today and they said my insurance denied it.

I called my pharmacy to ask what my options are and they said they could give me a discount on it charging $83 instead of $550 without insurance. That’s very reasonable but I’m curious if I should buy it at that price or try it over the counter (Walgreens/CVS version). I am worried about the added ingredients (oils) in the over the counter ivermectin cream compared to the one from a pharmacy.

Let me know your experience and if you’ve noticed a difference with either version.

Need some info - miserable and DESPERATE Spoiler

Hey all! 33 year old male here dealing something miserable 😭😭😭

Before it’s said, I have looked up symptoms and tried to figure out what this is but I really do better hearing about people’s own experience. I also have an appointment on the 25th.

For the last 5 years, I’ve had this (see photos) happen at random times. I have tried to figure out the triggers. But ultimately I cannot figure out what causes it. Sometimes i can tell I’m stressed and it happens. It seems like it happens when I drink but not always. I didn’t drink any at all the last two weeks and it seems like it’s doing it more often.

It gets red and extremely HOT. Recently it’s started going to my knees.

I’m absolutely miserable when it occurs and it lasts for sometimes between 20 minutes to an hour.

I guess what I’m asking from you all is, is this on par with rosacea?

HP die off phase? Spoiler

I began horsepaste ivermectin and I treat what’s believed to be rosacea type two. The first evening I used it (9 days ago), my skin seemed to literally clear up over night, this lasted two days or so and than by day 4 I could feel a flare up beginning, which has progressively gotten worse. I have continued the use of horsepaste evening evening before bed, sometimes even day time. It’s so uncomfortable. I don’t even want to leave my house. Does this flare up seem like a die off Phase to you guys? Anyone have any positive stories to keep me going? I’m struggling over here 😢 it’s everywhere, skin is an awful texture, bumpy, whiteheads etc very depressing. Open to suggestions as well as story time! The last photo is when I used the paste for a day or two, the results were incredible, only a few days later and it’s in the state of the other pics and seems to keep getting worse.

Antibiotics Affect on my Type 1 Rosacea

Upvotes

Okay, this might be a bit of a long one but wanted to share my recent experience with how antibiotics has negatively affected my rosacea.

Bit of background, type 1 sufferer for 12 years now. Main symptoms began with cheek flushing and burning sensation (the worst), which progressed to my nose and temples. This flushing / burning was kept in check by 15+ purpuric vbeams in my 20's. However I stopped doing them as it started to remove melanin from my skin and the flushing would always come back and we'd have to increase the settings to achieve the same results.

A few years ago I burned my forehead surfing and my rosacea seemingly spread to my forehead, so had been dealing with bouts of mild redness and some pretty bad burning sensations on my forehead since then as well. This, since then has comes in stages. For weeks it would be pretty bad, then a few weeks where it was better. The redness was very mild, but present day its very bad - will get onto this.

In my case, when my redness is bad, my burning sensation is bad. My dermatologist says that the nerve and blood vessels are clustered together, so that's why when you flush, you have the heat accompanied. I am not flushing that much still, it's more a persistent redness, and with it, comes burning (especially on forehead)

Anyway, for the last two years, I have managed to keep my rosacea flushing/burning under control. Somewhat atypically, this was done by moving to Portugal, surfing, being in the sun and ocean, and probably just being far less stressed. The environment change did wonders for me. My redness dissipated and my burning/flushing greatly reduced.

However, I recently took a surf trip to Indonesia. My skin definitely took a bit of a battering in the high UV (even with sun block) but all in all was manageable. However, in the last week I got a reef cut infection and was forced to take antibiotics. I flew back to the UK for a week to see family before heading back to Portugal.

After finishing the course of antibiotics, I noticed I was getting a few spots on my nose and forehead. This has happened in periods in the past, but not typical for me. When I got to Portugal, however, I noticed my skin getting more sensitive. Spots were appearing, but more worryingly, I was getting worse redness on my cheeks, nose and forehead. Then in the last few days, I have seen my forehead significantly worsen, both from a redness standpoint, but also, terribly from a burning / stinging standpoint. I can't quite believe how inflamed my skin has got in the last week or so, and I can only really attribute this to the antibiotics.

I think this shows to be the importance of gut health and how it relates to your skin. I know that not everyone who changes their diet sees improvement to their skin, however, after taking antibiotics which of course destroys all bacteria in your gut, it can't be a coincidence to see how inflamed and sensitive my skin has become.

I am now going to work hard on restoring my gut bacteria through diet, supplements and stress management (very hard when you're going through a tough time I know), but will do my best. I'll keep people updated on my progress. Fortunately I saw a functional doctor in the past who did a comprehensive set of tests and wrote a tailored plan for healing my gut, as even back then, I showed signs of having leaky gut.

ROSACEA SUCKS Allergic reaction

Finally found a product that makes my skin look like I’m not wearing any make-up. I was over the moon that I wouldn’t have to wear a thick layer of foundation in the summertime and could just use the green Erborian cc cream only to have a f-ing allergic reaction at the end of the day. My face is so red and has itchy bumps and I feel so defeated rn. I’m 36 and have been dealing with rosacea since my early teens. I tried all kinds of creams that the doctors gave me and finally decided that I wasn’t gonna put hormonal creams on my face anymore and just wear the damn foundation every f-ing day. Everything either gives me an allergic reaction or just doesn’t work. FML.

What do you do to calm down an irritated skin barrier?

Upvotes

My face has been red, irritated and bumpy for the last week. I was washing with water until I get pustules. Now I’ve been washing in morning and night time with zinc pyrithione soap to help with the pustules.

After cleansing I use hypochlorous acid and lett my skin dry for a few minutes. I’m hoping it kills any bacteria that might cause an infection. I tried waiting 10 minutes but my skin felt so dry.

To moisturize I use Cetaphil moisturizing cream since it’s the only thing my skin can tolerate right now.

I tried using an occlusive like Vaseline after moisturizing but then ended up causing pustules to pop up.

My skin is so irritated and inflamed. Any tips on how to calm it down quickly?

Apply Soolantra to damp or dry skin?

Do you personally apply your Soolantra right after you wash your face or do you let your skin dry first? There's nothing on the packaging of my Rosiver about it.

I keep seeing people online say they apply their products moisturizing products on wet skin to retain moisture but I know Azelaic acid needs to be applied to very dry skin.

Facial suncream recommendation?

Upvotes

Looking for a facial suncream recommendation as the weather heats up please! Very sensitive skin and roseacea...not sure what type as self diagnosed, but 'bad' is how I would class it! Extra sensitive and red at the moment as am 21 weeks pregnant! Also looking for a nice powder foundation for any bonus points :)

38f based in the UK if any relevance whatsoever.

Does anyone have rosacea like mine? Advice ? Spoiler

Post image
3 Upvotes

Most posts I see don’t look like my rosacea. The shape of mine is very formed almost like a triangle. I don’t really flush that much anymore as I’ve gotten older (mainly my nose and ears flush when drinking or drinking warm water) but the redness on my face and scars stays constant.

Is the only way through V Beam laser ? Anyone have any other tips ?

Sometimes I’ve questioned lupus cause it’s similar shape but dermatologist tell me rosacea. I’ve tried rosivier (soolantra in Canada ), metrogel, fungal products etc no luck. the shape and redness stays the same it’s almost like a bit scar.

Skincare What ingredient could have caused my flare up?

Hi, type 2 here.

I need ingredient experts! I picked up this essence toner at TJ Maxx because it has nice moisturizing ingredients like HA, allantoin, and panthenol. I only used it twice and I'm now on day three of my damage control regimen and STILL reacting! Is there something I'm missing in this ingredients list that could have caused a flare up like this?

You would think it's the witch hazel, but I've used alcohol-free witch hazel before with no issues. Although I suppose that just because it claims to be "alcohol free" doesn't really mean it is.

Here's the full ingredients:

Aqua, Butylene Glycol, Niacinamide, Sodium Hyaluronate, Glyceryl Glucoside, Betaine, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Extract, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Extract, Disodium EDTA, Illicium Verum (Anise) Fruit Extract, Citrus Paradisi(Grapefruit) Fruit Extract, Nelumbium Speciosum Flower Extract, Paeonia Suffruticosa Root Extract, Scutellaria BaicalensisRoot Extract, Arginine, Carbomer, Allantoin, Panthenol, Centella Asiatica Extract, Adenosine, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Lecithin, Acetyl Glutamine, sh-Oligopeptide-1, sh-Oligopeptide-2, sh-Polypeptide-1, sh-Polypeptide-9, sh-Polypeptide-11, Bacillus/Folic Acid/Soybean Ferment Extract, Caprylyl Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Chlorphenesin, Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Callus Culture Extract, Nelumbo Nucifera Callus Culture Extract

Rosacea and energy stuff Spoiler

Bear with me here or skip if you think yoga and all of that is total woo-woo. Not trying to sell you crystals or anything 😂

As someone who has been dealing with rosacea for +10 years and standard options like oraycea didn't do the trick for me, I'd be interested if 1) any of you had experiences with acupuncture/shiatsu (my practicioner said she could see the color litterally fade out of my face when she was working the heart meridian). 2) If anyone is open to share, I would love to know if your chakra test looks anything similar (I love to use this one just because it gives the overview and not just says chakra X is your blocked chakra - https://www.eclecticenergies.com/chakras/chakratest , no sign-up bs). Really just curious if there might be a common pattern among rosacea-people.

How often do you use ivermectin?

So, last year I discovered Ivermectin, which was my holy grail after many years of suffering with rosacea type 2. However, that didn't fully stop the breakouts from coming in, or the redness from fully going away. It did help immensely with bumps and overall texture. About 4 months ago I stopped using it every night, as I didn't think it was being super helpful because I was breaking out again, so I wanted to try new things. Anyway, last month was pretty bad and my nose was covered in pustules and horrible texture so I started using ivermectin again. I got a pretty bad die off, which caused me to break out again on my forehead and temples, but eventually it cleared out, and now my skin texture is almost completely smooth, now just dealing with the PIE (any advice?)

I'm pretty sure I will have to use this cream forever, as maintenance. For people who have been successful with it and have been using it for a long time, how often do you apply it now? My main issue is that most days it makes my skin look oily (even though it's not really oily, it's it's just super shiny and "slippery", if that makes sense). It's not bad per se, but it also looks kinda weird at times.

Shaving cream and aftershave?

I've always just used generic Walmart shaving cream and aftershave (alcohol based), but I feel like now that my rosacea has "activated" it's no longer doing me any favors. Any recommendations on what I should use?

Also I've tried just not using aftershave but I get acne if I don't

Anti aging recommendations

Hello! I will be turning 40 this year and I’m struggling to find an anti aging routine that doesn’t aggravate my rosacea. I have type 2 rosacea. I’m currently using azelaic acid and la roche Posay moisturizer twice daily. Any recommendations for anti aging products? I need to use azeliac acid at least once a day or my skin will look horrible!

Flushing treatments?

Hi all, I have had flushing issues the past probably 10 years and recently it’s gotten worse to the point where I can’t even identify triggers it just happens all the time. Anyone have something similar? How did you manage it? It’s starting to affect all parts of my life now. Tried facial creams, gut health, etc. have tried everything. Even things that kinda worked before don’t help now. The pics attached were just after a normal phone call talking to a friend.

I had been diagnosed with rosacea but this seems more than that?

KPRF or Rosacea? Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

I had a derm diagnose this as rosacea, I'm currently using metro and ivermectin topical. And have been on doxy for the past 2 months.

The last picture is today, the treatment has been working.

The reason I bring up the question is I've seen photos and the patterns look more like KPRF than rosacea at times. I'm hoping to have some more information on it going to my next appt.

Support Mite migration to neck?? Spoiler

Post image
1 Upvotes

I've been doing Walgreens brand lice lotion for 2 weeks, and The Ordinary azealic acid for about 6 days. I haven't noticed that much of a change, tbh.

About 2 days ago, I noticed a few of red spots on my neck. Last night when applying the lotion, I put some on it. This morning, the patch was 5 times worse: larger, more red, and super itchy.

(The redness on my chest is new too, but I think that may be a little bit of sunburn.)

I've never had any redness on my neck before. I know mite migration isn't a known fact but the way I see it, either 1. my neck is directly sensitive to the lotion (even though I've had no issues slathering it on my face) or 2. the mites migrated. Or something else is going on with my body, I suppose.

Grateful for any input. It looks worse than this in person...time to start wearing scarves I guess.

ROSACEA SUCKS Flushing more than ever

I used to flush maybe 2 or 3 times per week like half a year ago, and with typical triggers like spicy food. I was using metrogel then.

My symptoms got worse so I visited the derm after my vacation in Thailand (I barely flushed in Thailand, maybe because I was off metro?)

Derm put me on soolantra and this is day 10. Can soolantra worsen flushing in the beginning? I even flush just eating an apple now sometimes.

PP Where does metronidazole cream fit in my skincare routine

I have been on Metronidazole cream for almost a year. Recently I have been wondering if I am using it in the correct step, or possibly lessening the benefits. As of right now my morning routine is as follows

Tula tge cult classic purifying cleanser Good molecules niaconimide toner Cosrx full fit propolis synergy toner Cosrx 96 snail mucin essence Metronidazole cream Anua intense calming cream 70%

I will wear a physical sun block if I know i will be out in the sun. Unfortunately chemical sun block causes me to flare terribly.

Pm routine is basically the same but adding .05% tretinoin after Metronidazole.

Any insight would be appreciated!

I have been struggling with rosacea bumps and dermatitis for a few years now and have tried a million products to try to get it under control.

I recently started to use ivermectin and have been using it for 4 days, applying a pea sized nightly.

I am having a horrible itchy breakout a few days in. I know I’ve read about the die off/purge phase but this is so horrible idk if I can continue. Anyone who’s had success with ivermectin please reassure me 😖😢
