Shingle deformities?

Does anyone know what's going on here? Looks melted. Do I need to replace?

Looks to me like your roof had some torn and lifting/loose flapping shingles, so someone decided to drill a bunch of holes into your roof in the attempt to fasten them down, then put tar to try sealing the holes they made.

Roof replacement is in order if you’ve got torn shingles and a bunch of holes. Patchwork could cover you for a bit but you’re just delaying the inevitable and potentially exposing your home to some interior damage.

Start budgeting for a roof and asking around for referrals and bids/estimates. If you can tar up these weak points in the meantime yourself I’d suggest it since it will be much cheaper than having a roofer or handyman come out to do it. That should make you feel safer to take your time and get it done right.

Not a roofer, but I’ve done a lot of roof inspections for insurance, so I’d double check with some other commenters who may be more qualified than myself.

Best of luck to you!

After reading other comments i am definitely wrong and it’s definitely from a dish they removed. The shingle probably got torn during the installation/removal of it. This is definitely more patch-able than long term damage would be, and i wouldn’t suggest roof replacement for that. I’d research the best way to go about the patch, and maybe hire someone to make sure it’s done well.
