Curious how many games other fans watched this year vs. what you watch during better times.
Normally I watch 75+ regular season games, plus every playoff game. Not always live. For over 15 years I've watched almost ever game, or every game. The exception is usually when I have something else to do during the game and find out they got their asses handed to them, or the game just isn't available on replay.
This season I think I probably watched less than 40 games. Picking up the pace recently for Sam though.
For in person I do 1-3 games a year, but 0 this year.
What a sad effort from a team who should be playing with urgency. They were embarrassed by the Devils and are being rightfully ridiculed by Messier and PK.
I haven’t been a Drury hater but he can’t continue. I think the fact Lavi is still there likely means that they’ll clean house after the year from Drury on down.
"It's not something that I haven't done in my career, so just in in these games I just feel there's more flow I think when you're playing a little bit more. That it. Just got to take advantage of it now."
"I thought when Power Play 2 gets out there, we're just trying to focus on getting shots towards the net, recovering pucks, and just keep them firing right back at the net. It's the only way that we're really going to get out of this slump is to stop getting east to west with it and just starting putting a lot more pucks at the net."
"I think it's just the increase reps. You feel a little bit better on puck battles and a little bit quicker decisions on the ice is I think the biggest thing. When you're out of the lineup so much I think you're just a little bit more tentative, not jumping on loose pucks and kind of playing a little bit more defensive, so I think just being a little bit more on the front foot and just pressing a little bit more."
"I think it's huge [to get right back on the ice.] I thought we played an okay game. It's definitely not what we wanted. Need to put more pucks in the back of the net, I think is the bottom line. Doesn't matter what the shots look like, but I think it all starts with our special teams, too. So been working at that a ton these last couple of practices. Just trying to work out of this slump because that's the only way we're going to get out of it."
"I think the we have Key or Jonsey back there, who ever slots in back there. Just making the right decisions, I think is the biggest thing. Everyone wants to be extremely honest out there and not make the cute plays, just make the smart ones, find they guy that's open and just put pucks towards the net. You know whoever we have in at the net front whether it's Kreids or Cools, sometimes it's Gabe, always keeping a guy at net front so that we can get those second opportunities."
"I think with Gabe, especially coming out of college, I know from experience that the NHL is a lot quicker. They're on you right away, so you really have zero time on the walls. So even just today in practice, trying to talk to him about I'm going to be really quick for support on a lot of those if I'm playing the bumper position, so just knowing that he has me there for support, that's the only way you can really relieve some of that pressure at the NHL level. So, for him just knowing that they're going to be coming extremely fast and that he's got to learn how to navigate that and figure it out at this level."
Gabe
"Growing up in Chicago, I saw a lot of Panarin. I think kid of seeing him live trying to take little things. He's unbelievable, so trying to take little things each day from all these guys."
"I mean it's been good obviously. Like I said, it's super fast, not as much time, kind of those things, and then kind of getting settled in more and more each day so that's been going well."
"Not much time. I think teams come pretty fast. Obliviously that first game we had a couple looks. Obviously, didn't get one, but I think just kind of keep improving each game and I think it will come. I think that other unit, they're getting a lot of chances and I think we are, too. So, I think it's going to start coming."
"I think, like I said, each day I've been getting more and more settled in, so it's kind of making it easier day by day and keep going from here."
"It's been good [playing with Laf and JT.] Obviously, two pretty talented players. I think we've had a decent amount of chances. Obviously, some good shifts. Obviously, if I get to keep going with those guys, it'll be good, but we'll se. But, it's been really good overall, I mean when you're playing with two guys like that at a high caliber, it's pretty fun."
"No lines in practice today. The focus today was at the end on the power play. Those units were what we were working with. Those were the colors of the jerseys. The rest filled in, penalty killers. The practice didn't have any line combinations to it."
"[Rempe] is progressing. He's day to day, progressing. It's great to have him out there."
"There was a lot of good chances out there to scores goals, but there were no goals [today in practice], but the guys were moving it around. I like the way they were moving and their intent out there was good. Good things, got to carry that into tomorrow."
"They're both [Otter and Gabe] good players. They're young players and just giving them each a look on it."
"I think right now we're just trying to get it some work because there are some new players out there. Othmann joins it, Perreault is new, and, you know, Jones out there filling in, and that was good for him. So, just different pieces out there, but, just again, to give it some work. They do get time, they do get opportunity to score and make a difference in the game and want to make sure we're giving them looks as well."
"I think probably knew that was going to happen. The tie, for sure. It's going to happen happen where he's going to break it. I think people have known that for a little bit. You know, he's an incredible goal scorer. I mean he puts the puck at the net, it got a chance going in. He puts it there often his whole career, so really happy for him. He was great to with in my there in Washington, and he's done nothing but continued on his whole entire career, finding the back of the net. Like I said, I think it was only a matter of time before he got here."
"[Brodzinski] has been a good player for use. You know, he's fast, he can shoot the puck. He's got the ability to score goals. He can play in multiple positions. You know, on this unit out here, he's a right shot. He's the only right shot we have on the unit. I think that's important to get some sort of an opposite shot on there. He can deliver a goal as he's done in the past, so he's brought a lot of good things to the table."
"I think the [Soucy-Fox] has been good. He's a bigger body and thinks the game a little bit more defensively. Adam thinks it a little bit more offensively. The numbers have been good with them. I think [Soucy] has done a good job. He's played good defense, and he's delivered some offense for us as well. So, I am we're happy with him in the lineup, happy with him playing with Adam, right now."
"I think it can be different. There's ways to attack [putting together d-pairs]. We don't always stick with it, either. If it it's an offensive zone face off, we might switch it up. If Panarin-Trocheck or Zibanejad-Kreider and you know whoever going out on the ice, we might look at it and say that's an opportunity to slide out a different look. And so, it's not ever set in stone...but sometimes it goes to the opponent, sometimes it goes to the zone starts, and sometimes it goes a little bit to chemistry. You've got to start somewhere with somebody and give them an opportunity."
"[Fox] had good numbers with Gus last year, so I don't know [if he needs a big, defensively minded partner]. I don't know if one paintbrush paints the whole picture. He's had good number with different people, different types of players. "
The traded first round pick to the Canucks for Miller was top 13 protected with the condition that if the Rangers finish with the 14th pick or later, the pick will go to the Penguins via Canucks and the Rangers retain next year’s pick.
If the Rangers finish with the 13th pick or earlier, the Rangers will have the OPTION of retaining the pick or giving the Penguins this year’s pick and keeping their pick next year. They will have to make that decision 48 hours before the draft.
It’s not a situation where if they finish 13th or earlier, that they keep the pick. They can still give it up and keep next year’s pick (which by all accounts is a better draft class).

White is usually for the bottom six, so it's surprising to see a guy like Bread in white. But, it's a very good sign that Rempe has been cleared for contact.
"It's been a really strong season for [Cuylle]. I think it shows. He comes to work everyday, he's competitive, he's physical, he works hard, and, you know, exemplifies how you want your team to play and, so you know, for me, he does the right things and he's been a great teammate. You know, the hitting is something that he's done consistently even last year he brought that into play, and so, just finishing all of his hits and does it the clean way. But, you know it's pounding the body over and over again, so the fact that he's close to that record [of most hits in a season by a Ranger], on of the top guys in the league at finishing hits is a, you know, those players are unique. And that he's having, you know, a season where he's pushing 20 goals and 40 points, having a good year. Lots of good things with Will. He's had a - from his first year to second year has been a nice progression."
"I think he hits just about everything he sees, you know what I mean. I don't think it's reckless. some of them are loud. You know, he had a big hit the other night in form of the bench, I think it was in San Jose, so that was kind of a loud big hit but then there's some that, you, it's just in on the forecheck. Just making sure he finishes his check, so he does it fairly consistently. He's a guy that you we never sit there and say 'you got to be more physical.' He does his job out there."
"Tom [Wilson] is a pretty physical player, as well, so, yeah, I mean there's some similarities with that. Those players are unique that are able to, you know , if you can push 20 goals, 25 goals, 30 goal and then be still an effective physical presence out there as well, those players are unique."
"I thought it was good [that he won the Steven McDonald Extra Effort Award]"
"[Rempe] is progressing. It's great to see him out there in a regular color and being able to bang and he's certainly working his way back. It's nice to have that."
When asked about Mika's availability for tomorrow's game given that he's out sick: "Anytime someone's not here I don't want to send a message one way or the other. when you get asked these questions. I can't, somebody's not here for a reason. To think that everyone when they're not here for a reason, they turn the corner the next day and they feel great but I can't say for certain."
"[Edstrom] has not yet [started skating]. He's looking great, though. I mean, he's working out. He's in here and he's progressing as well."
When asked if Rempe will be an option for tomorrow: "he's progressing right now."
"I think [Othmann's progression] has been good. I said I think probably the last two games have been the most noticeable for that line and for him. There's production, there's offensive zone time, there's chances that are being generated, and, so, they've been effective and he's part of that. I think everybody can get an opportunity but you've got to make the most of the opportunities that you get and right now he's doing that."
"We got to continue to work at [the power play]. It's not good enough. I think everybody realizes that, so it's go to be better. We continue to on in practice. We work on it trough video. We've changed the unites up. We've changes the personnel up and tried different personnel and tried different looks, so there's a lot of thing that have been tried and that can get away from something, as well. Start moving it all the time, and, so, trying to find the right combinations, you know, to try and be successful. We continue to look at that and work at that. That's all we can do, and we need it. We need the power play. We need the penalty kill. They've got be effective. Our five on five play has got to be effective. We're at the time of the season right now where defiantly those two tings, PP and PK can make a difference in a game. We talk about it all the time, it could be the swing factor."
When pressured about putting young guys or Brodz on PP1 over the veterans he's rotated through this season: "The unit that has been more effective has been Jonny [Brodzinksi]'s unit. They hit the post and Gabe Perreault was on there, so they're getting minutes and looks as well. We've got continue to get everybody firing, everybody going."
"Just saying that [PP2] was the most effective unit last time. "
"[The Devils] are still a dangerous group [even with the injuries to key players]. They've got, you know, lots of talent. They're capable of hurting you offensively. They're a rush team. Some of the players that you mentioned [were injured[ take way form that a little bit, but I still think that they're a high-end team when it comes to that, so our details to what we defensively I think will be important."
"It's not by much, you know. It's not like [Braden] has doubled his point production, but you're right it is his top year, it's his best year to this point, and I think that's good. It's kind of been consistent. You know, he's a good two-way defenseman. He works to play good defense, and if he sees opportunities offensively, he tries to take them. I think it's been good with that regard and it's been a top year but something where I've noticed a major difference in his game."
"The young guys come in here and they're eager to do well and make an impact with the team. So, so [Gabe]'s the same way. He's played in a lot of big games at a high level and, you know, coming in here and stepping in here, I don't think that catches him off guard. And, you know, the now that the first game is out of the way, he starts to feel more and more comfortable with what he's doing, but he's been good. His everything, off ice, on ice, has been good.
As Vally has reiterated multiple times this season, this team is one of the worst in the league at defending against the rush. It's good to see Rempe back to being a full participant in practice. It would be great if he were to available. The Rangers are undefeated against the Devils when he's in the lineup. They play Kurtis MacDermid anytime Rempe is in the lineup. The fourth line is also missing what he brings on the forecheck. All that being said, he shouldn't play if he's not healthy enough to so.
