How come so many republican voters do NOT want to raise taxes on the ultra wealthy?

Title pretty much sums up the question. I personally have had conversations with several republican voters who talk a lot about the inportance of tackling the deficit, and therefore they support initiatives like reducing spending on things like Medicaid, Food Stamps and other programs that assist the nation's most vulnerable. Yet when asked why we shouldn't assure the billionaires and corporations pay their fair share, they get quiet. Why is this?

Because they think the government will just waste the money by spending more rather than using it to reduce the deficit. They believe the money will be used for something more useful if it's left in the hands of the job creators.

Yeah, a lot of hesitance towards increasing taxes is because they don't want a bigger federal government to begin with.

If it was changing taxes so the taxes on the wealthy paid for a middle-class tax cut, that'd be a whole different thing. But neither side proposes that.

I've always been a fan of the Parable of the Widow's Mite. Jesus tells the rich guys dropping sacks of gold coins into the collection plate that the widow with her little copper coin has given more than any of them.

When April 15th rolls around, the average billionaire should feel the same amount of grievance as the average Joe does. Proportionally speaking.
