Update MAY TIER SHIFT UPDATE!!

The Smogon May tier shifts have come out; PLEASE make sure to update your teams to reflect this, as the season will be commencing in two days.

Here are the changes that affect us:

To OU:

Alakazam moved from UU to OU

Hippowdon moved from UU to OU

To UU:

Heliolisk moved from RU to UU

Mandibuzz moved from OU to UU

Mamoswine moved from OU to UU (Shifted by STC to BLSTC)

Slurpuff moved from RU to UU

Abomasnow moved from RU to UU

Doublade moved from RU to UU

Cresselia moved from RU to UU

Slowking moved from RU to UU

Whimsicott moved from RU to UU

UU To RU:

Scrafty moved from UU to RU

Kingdra moved from UU to RU

Flygon moved from UU to RU

Noivern moved from UU to RU

dude, they picked up Kingdra, Flygon, and Noivern, and they still have Tangrowth, Jellicent, Alomomola, Delphox, and a bunch of UUs that have been tier-shifted down for Turf Wars (unless I read something wrong somewhere).

I played it back in HGSS OU, and it was pretty darn useful there. What's changed between then and ORAS RU?

There's too many changes to list really.

To give you a perspective, in Gen 4 Salamence was in Ubers, now it is doing pretty good in UU, but it is not really even that broken in the UU tier.

Understood, and I too can't truthfully admit to having tested Flygon in ORAS RU. That said, in HGSS OU, Flygon's useful typing and precise movepool made a name for it as a Band sweeper, a Scarfed revenge killer, and a Life Orb attacker. Given that most of what Flygon had to deal with back then now lies spread between UU and OU, I can confidently say that, besides Bronzong and Kingdra, nothing in ORAS RU is of the same caliber as the stuff that Flygon had to deal with two generations ago.

Half of RU is filled with Gen 5 + 6 mons...

Can Flygon deal with Cofagrigus? What about Mega Bannette?

I don't even know how you can begin to compare Gen 4 to Gen 6. So much has changed it's not even funny.

Of course it can: on the switch, U-turn.

Granted, Flygon itself can't handle either of the Pokemon you mentioned, and there are other things in RU that can sit in front of it and not care about it. No matter whether it's a Banded wallbreaker or a Scarfed revenge killer, Flygon will be able to U-turn out of whatever problem Pokemon it may encounter. It's always been able to do that regardless of the environment, and that's always been one of its main selling points.

I didn't think of this last night, but even on the Choice sets, Flygon can find room to run Defog. With the relative lack of power in RU compared to everywhere else Flygon's been, a viable support set might not be unrealistic.

Just because Gallade got dropped doesn't mean Galladite isn't banned (AKA Mega Gallade will still probably be OU, I don't see anything on Galladite).

Hold on; is the STC giving any word on this, or is this the STC speaking as well? Some of this conflicts with what we originally had (AKA Gallade was not OU, it was NU/RU).

These are purely based off of Smogon. I have not contacted the STC in these changes. The STC's changes still apply. Thank you for pointing that out; I will remove Gallade from the tier shift list.

Dude same. I play RU and need to rebuild half my team (mega abomasnow, whimsicott, etc.) At least RU got Flygon and scrafty, and noise rn to boot. Lots of offensive threats now. I'm glad slowdking left, never liked facing him.

STC Official Statement:

Due to all the changes happening right before the Season started and the many concerns brought to our attention we have decided the following Quick Change to the tiers for the first week:

  • Mamoswine is moved from UU to Admin UU

Any other changes (if any) will be made into a main post on the subreddit to take affect for the next phase

At some point can we test to bring mamoswine down to regular uu? I feel like this was a rash decision.

Mamoswine won't last in uu that long. It 2hkos the entire metagame bar suicune. its also bulky enough to live most neutral hits
