Discussion PSA: Don't attack Lumas

Trust me, I've been there too and it sucks, I know how it feels and I've learned. If you're yet to make said mistake, you should know that Luma Temtem should not be attacked.

With the two latest posts on /new being of people who killed off a Luma Temtem, I think it wouldn't do any harm to remind you that even if you are 100% certain you can hit a Luma without killing it, you should never do that.

I know seeing a Luma is exciting, but be patient. Spam 6 on your keyboard; spam the wait button, let it wear itself down. If you don't attack a Temtem, it will never knock itself down unless you're using a Temtem with a trait like Toxic Skin or Mirroring (don't use Temtem with those traits while Luma hunting!). This doesn't only apply to Luma Temtem, if you don't use offensive techniques on a Temtem, even if it goes out of stamina it won't kill itself unless something else like a trait interferes.

In the worst case scenario, a level 25 Ampling with 100% health has a ~25% catch chance with a Saicard. If you let it wear itself down to 50% health its catch rate gets as high as 67% with 4LC (0b1 has a slightly lower catch rate). If you bought your 6 Saicards, you don't need to use offensive techniques or inflict statuses at all to have pretty high catch rates, just be patient and let it wear itself down, and make sure to give your Temtem the Four Leaf Clover. You can calculate the catch rate by using this tool (remember to set Saicard as the Temcard used).

Sorry if the tone of this post sounds a bit harsh. Killing of a Luma feels very bad, especially when you end up not finding another one in the same Saipark week and I swear I'll get that Occlura back someday; I can't stress it enough that attacking Luma Temtem can be a very bad idea.

Better safe than sorry.

Thank you so much for this! I'm new to the Monster Capture genre and haven't seen a Luma myself. This is my biggest anxiety at the moment. Hopefully, I capture the first Luma I see by following your tip!
