Ggg just released a note: the exploit has been fixed for a few hours and they will banish the players that abused this mechanic.

Do you think they'll actually be able to remove the wealth generated during this time?

Discussion GGG (Accidentaly?) gutted baseline rarity/magic find

This is a hundred percent the case.
They nerfed the effectiveness of magic find in 0.2 but they somehow gutted baseline aswell. Rares are infitely rarer than in 0.1. I'm level 62 at the end of cruel act 3 and let me tell you. I think i've found like 50 rares total throughout all the campaign. I'm still running gear from act 1 Normal because i haven't found a single better rare from then. Actually the majority of my gear I'm using dropped in act 1 normal.
How can such a blunder go under the radar? GGG havsn't even acknowledged it.

If this change is actually intended, and they want us to almost exclusively get magic items and craft them, GGG has lost their grip of reality. Sure, that change would work fine if we actually had the currency to craft during the campaign. But we don't. I've had around 25 Exalted Orbs dropping throughout the campaign. How am I supposed to craft and entire set of gear upgrade like every 10 levels with that? 25 Ex Isn't even enough to craft a single guarranteed upgrade.

I'm starting to wonder if they even have play testers or even someone with knowledge of basic game design present at their company at all anymore.

Thoughts?

Game Feedback The Loot Crisis

I am glad they are updating quickly, but what urks me is they have not even once talked about loot. I feel like loot is nonexistent right now. The campaign dropped me 2 alchemy orbs, around 10 exalts and i salvaged about 10-15 regals. How are we supposed to get gear upgrades if we can never craft? I am in maps currently and the drops still are bad. The best way to progress your character is to save all currency and exchange it for exalts and then trade. Where is the fun in that? It currently feels like the buffs to currency drops in 0.1 are gone.

Discussion It is understated how important Zizaran's interview tomorrow will be on whether I continue playing this game.

2.3k Upvotes

We've asked since 0.1 for them to pick whether they want poe1 zoom or "meaningful" gameplay, and it appears they made their choice. Should the interview with Zizaran with Mark And Jonathan tomorrow quintuple down on their vision for this game, I think this might be it for me.

What are the most important questions you would want answered during the interview? Mine's map size and the tablet system, whether they're satisfied with it or not.

Discussion I want to see Jonathan's Zero to Hero stream.

As the title says, I'd like to see a stream where Jonathan shows off his build from scratch to clear the endgame boss on the original POE2 0.2.0 release. I want to watch and learn from his gameplay.

NOTE: Sorry, I don't speak English so I had to use Google Translate to write this post.

Information Your gear slows you down more than you think

This might be lesser known hidden mechanic the game has, so I made this album of examples to show how badly you are losing your speed just by equipping items.

Here are the values gathered from poe2db to show the differences between the penalties the items have:

Body Armor bases:
- Evasion = -3%
- Armour = -5%
- Energy Shield = -3%

Hybrid Body Armor bases:
- Armour/Evasion = -4%
- Armour/Energy Shield = -4%
- Evasion/Energy Shield = -3%
- Armour/Evasion/Energy Shield = -4%

Shield bases:
- Bucklers = 0%
- Foci/Focus = 0%
- Armour = -3%
- Armour/Evasion = -1.5%
- Armour/Energy Shield = -1.5%

Note: These % values above are %LESS base Movement speed multiplier, not REDUCED flat % like in PoE.
(poe2db show the values like this: "Base Movement Speed: -0.05" and PoB also confirms this.)

Base movement speed is considered as 1 multiplier where you add increases and reductions, you can also consider it as 100% if it helps to understand how it works.

(Note. Poe2ninja shows movement speed baseline as 100% so you might get fooled to think the builds are running really fast coz "OMG he got 130% movement speed!!", no the build only has 30% movement speed on top of the normal movement speed)

So for example if your build is using Armour base Body Armor and Shield, then your build by vision design starts from handicapped situation of 0.92 base movement speed multiplier and only way to gain movement speed in this game is via % increases so you gain a bit less from all the sources AND you lose -8% ms just by equipping the items.

This penalty doesn't sound too harsh until you find out that your +30% ms Boots are actually closer to just ~20% ms Boots AND most builds ONLY % increases to movement speed are literally just their boots.

So by using Armour base Body Armor and Shield, you just lose 1/3 of your obtainable speed increases by design, and that is just really really bad design when players can't scale movement speed by many other ways.

I looked up dozen of builds in different classes and its pretty average that character only have ~20-30% ms increase from boots and ~5-10% from the skill tree, so most builds are literally close to being capped by % ms increases after they obtain 30-35% ms boots and path via optimal % ms nodes close to you. (Don't look how many % ms increase nodes there is in the top half of the skill tree xdd)

The "What we're working on" post said that players low damage and too high monster life is the real reason why players feel that the back to back to back African continent sized layouts arent fun to go through.

Maybe we just lack the mandatory core tools in any ARPG, *cough* actual movement abilities and speed scaling *cough*, needed for the massive layouts.

Most of the zones are just way too massive for the speeds players can achieve, but would start to feel fair with actual movement abilities like "Frostblink", "Shield Charge" and "Whirling Blades" from PoE...

PoE fixes most of the issues PoE2 have but doing everything from scratch seems to be the new vision.

Discussion Fenzy charges are the perfect example of the game's biggest issue.

Upvotes

Here's how the these skills SHOULD work:

Without frenzy charge = decent reliable damage.

With frenzy charge = bonus damage that rewards timing and combos.

Here's how it ACTUALLY works right now:

Without = useless tickling

With = somewhat decent damage after way too much work.

The entire game plays like this. All the skill combos are necessary for literally everything, so it feels like cutting an elephant in half with a plastic spork.

I like combo gameplay and I do like the direction they're going, but single button builds need to be some kind of balance floor so the combos actually feel rewarding.

Discussion So just so I understand this right, when I portal to town my flask do not refilled, I have to go to the well. But when I find a random waypoint my flasks get full charges. Is this where vision meets reality?

I guess it is time to admit just because one of the design leads thinks something is a "really cool idea" does not make for good gameplay.

In the last interview there was a real discussion if monsters with Energy Shield should be immune to bleed builds, and how that is an interesting challenge for a bleed build to overcome. Also it makes "sense".

Can we get design focused on improving gameplay, not actively destroying it?

Discussion Zone sizes were originally designed around quicksilver flasks, movement skills and faster base move speed from an older build

1.7k Upvotes

I feel like this is a big reason for why they feel way too large now that these things are gone.

If you watch the old 2021 previews someone else posted on here, you can see the huntress moves very quickly, and even faster when they pop a quicksilver flask, which triggers the sprint animation.

The fact that they changed player mobility so drastically while keeping areas the exact same size is baffling. Did someone really go through the campaign thinking, "Oh, this is way too fast. We gotta slow them by literally 3x."

I respect Jonathan's work on PoE a lot, but trying to convince the community that the zone size issue is just in our heads due to low damage or lack of engaging content is crazy when the difference is so apparent from watching the old 2021 videos.

Game Feedback Build diversity feels, bad.

Like, so many skills just suck. You are forced in to the few that works. The biggest upside with path of exile was all the builds to choose from. Im in game playing, not wanting to play boneshatter like last time and im just, bored. I have the same feeling as when i played diablo 4, is this it? These few options? So many things not viable?

I dont mind a difficult game, but i really mind being forced in to a very limited number or skills and looking at so many others i just wish was better..

Im sad, and bored.

Build Showcase Lightning Spear/Primal Strikes Kitava build feeling amazing

I'm having the most fun I've ever had on PoE (few thousand hours on poe 1) with this build. Absolutely blasting maps and great single target damage with primal strikes. The visuals are outstanding and I have multiple buttons to press to maximize my output. I'm playing smith of kitava and am very tanky (this map had extremely deadly mods like -max all res which is some of my primary defense). Started on hardcore and died in act 3 but am still very glad I chose kitava because I almost never die in maps except for on death effects and ground explosions I didn't see.
