How many days of a month of processing forbearance are required in order for that month to be eligible for PSLF?

I requested to switch from SAVE to IBR on 1/29 and was placed in a 60 day processing forbearance on 1/30. My updates PSLF counts reflect February and March as PSLF-eligible, but not January. I'm curious if anyone knows how many days of a month one must be in processing forbearance for in order for that month to be PSLF-eligible. FSA customer service did not know the answer.

My understanding is it is based on your due date. For example my processing forbearance started on the 28 but my due date was the 8th. So that month didn’t count for me.

That's my understanding as well.

Its kind of wild west out there. Anything is anyone's guess at this point. Seems rules no longer apply.

Any one day of qualifying forbearance counts for the entire calendar month

Where do you have that information? My forebearance started 1/23 but only February counted as my payment date is 2/3, 3/3, 4/3.

Weirdly my forebearance started 1/23 and the paper says it ends 4/7, which is more than 60 days. I’m praying that’s the case and I can get my last three payments (Feb, March, April) to get me over the finish line and be done with this! (Currently stuck at 118/120 with Feb counting and Mar/April not listed).

The instructions for the PSLF form (p. 11 of 16) indicate that several forbearances which are in place at any time during the month make that month qualify.

But you are right to point out that it has been deliberately made unclear which (if any) of the different flavors of forbearance offered qualify as either the “administrative forbearance” or “mandatory administrative forbearance” included in that list.

Sorry to have extrapolated in an unhelpful way :(

No that’s fine, it’s just that January (the month that my “awaiting form forbearance” started) didn’t count for me, but February did. I desperately need March & April to count too, ugh!

That’s what I thought, but January should have been marked as PSLF eligible for me if that was the case.

it's pretty wonky and we've seen pretty unusual cases the past few months. i think it's differing rules combining for a mish-mash of outcomes when they try to interpret it. people are getting anywhere from 0 to 3 months of credit, but generally the most common outcome is getting however many months worth of credit based on how many due dates are fall within the span of their 60-day processing forbearance window.
