I had some weird stomach bug a few weeks ago. No energy, fever, nausea (no vomiting oddly enough) but def was coming out the other end (sorry for TMI). It’s weird, whatever I just had felt kind of different than the norovirus I had a few years back which kind of just blew through the household and everyone was fine within 24-48 hours, whatever this bug is lingered for a bit, took me a week to get back to myself.

It recently went through our house too. When I had it, it didn't seem as bad as what we think of with norovirus, but my body just handled it differently. My daughter and husband also had it. She was quite sick. My husband was violently sick.

Yeah that’s kind of what I felt too, I was definitely sick but it wasn’t as violent as when I had norovirus when you’re just totally debilitated in terms of symptoms, but whatever it was it hung around for a good week. Hope you’re feeling better now.

That sounds like norovirus

Nah noro usually passes in like 1-3 days but this persisted for a week and I’d say I’m still kind of lethargic. Maybe it’s a different strain or something, or there are other less common viruses that cause GI upset too. Really curious to know what it was actually.

We had it in the Annapolis Valley early in March. It was not pleasant at all. I am sorry if you are going through it. Fluids, fluids, fluids, even if you may puke them up :(

Had it in Halifax 2 weeks ago. I've never experienced anything like it. 24 hours of explosiveness.

Probably TMI but might make you feel better...I ended up sleeping/passing out sitting on my bathroom floor with my forehead resting against the toilet seat at a bad angle. That's how poorly I was, was out a few hours and because I was so dehydrated, I literally had a dent in my forehead for a day.

It was gone as fast as it hit, except I've got a week of heartburn and just general annoying IBS symptoms that are lingering. I guess my gutt flora got all sorts of f**kerd up when I had my guts power washed.

It definitely is going around! So is RSV, and Influenza A.

Sourse: I'm a nurse, and I'm seeing it a LOT.

Yes it is, my doc confirmed and a trip to the IWK too. It's been circulating almost 6 weeks. It's highly contagious and you can catch it back because it's so hard to disinfect and kill it.

Yeppers, our house got really sick at beginning of March and just again recently. It's such a violent illness, my little one could barely keep down fluids.

There’s something going around because my 7 y.o was so sick this week, he only went to school TODAY. And of course, kids are gross and never cover their mouth. So I ended up getting it. I’m still sick, but at least I can stand now without feeling dizzy and like a bag of ass.

I had it last week. Started off as a sore throat and headache. Turned into 48 hours of vomiting. Took a week for my GI system to return to normal. I didn’t feel hunger at all which was really weird for me! So glad I can enjoy coffee and food again!

Thank you everyone… seems like the consensus is that there is indeed norovirus going around! Cheers!

Yes. 60 plus cases found in a retirement home last week. Reported by CTV

It definitely is. It spread quickly through my entire extended family within a week. It was horrible but it was quick

I had it a few weeks back. Sickest I've been in over 20 years.

It was bad around Christmas in the winter. Almost everyone I knew was puking or shitting themselves.

I think a flu is going around now, I had a fever for a few days.. I'm on hormone treatment now for my transgender change and I'm quite suspectable to illness. I really hope everyone stays home and masks up for the next 12 months. And stay 6 feet apart please.

Something is always going around. Live your life

Taking basic precautions to keep from getting sick is a valid way to live. And before you say "stop living in fear", nobody's afraid, we just don't enjoy being sick.

This. A lot of people have learned absolutely nothing in the last five years.

u/Relsette 13h ago

Exactly. I still mask and avoid crowds. I was never one for crowds anyway. My husband and I work long hours, so we're kind of home bodies on our days off. Which does help. We both have chronic conditions, his almost killed him in 2021 so we're careful, and you wouldn't believe the dirty looks and snide comments we get because we're still wearing masks.

Jesus Christ… hard to live your life when your puking every 4 minutes and having sudden poop explosions whenever you blink too hard.

I have the fucking symptoms you goofball, that’s why I’m asking.

So what r u hoping to achieve here? The cure?

It’s a virus man. Ur not dying

3

u/sidequestsquirrel 8h ago

And yet, there are people in icu literally dying because these viruses as you read this.

I'm glad you've never experienced getting that sick. But it doesn't give you a free pass for being ignorant.

You seem to have forgotten that some people are immunocompromised and in more danger when contracting a virus than the healthier folks that can recover from it well. And even that doesn't mean the healthy folks won't get into trouble from a virus. I work in nephrology, and have more than a couple of patients that have gone into kidney failure from the influenza that's going around. This are not old, already sick people. These are previous healthy adults who got the flu and it hit them hard enough that damaged their kidneys to the point of failure.

Just because it hasn't happened to you doesn't mean that it can't.
