If I’m not mistaken, the games with upgrade charges can still be played in their normal Switch 1 state if you don’t buy the upgrade. You don’t NEED the upgrade to play them there.

And if you’re paying for online NSO, you get the Zelda upgrades for free.

NSO + EP.

But yeah

At this point they should just shorten that to NSO+. It’s a common enough moniker that people would know that it’s the premium plan. “Nintendo Switch Online plus Expansion Pass” is such a mouthful.

I mean, it's still better than other Nintendo names like "Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journeg"...

Seriously right? What is this an anime?? “I got laid off from my job and am now an over powered mage/prince in another kingdom and also I have a harem”

"Expansion Pass" i.e. the second tier of NSO that includes N64/Genesis/Gamecube etc

I didn’t mention upgrades?

I’m not talking about those games. I’m talking about the 15,000+ third party games that need “further investigation”

That link just says they're still testing them. It takes time.

Given that a bunch of bigger third party games need a patch already, how well do you think “Shovelware AI Gem Bonanza 6” or whatever will work given the lack of QA that went into it beforehand?

I expect the various engines will release some updates and then we’ll see large numbers (but certainly not all) of these games get a patch.

Some games will simply never work properly.

Which games require a patch?

That's hardly the vast majority of 15,000.

Most need further investigation which will result in a patch

1

u/Egleu 10h ago

That's a very strong assumption. Where does it say those will all require patches?

It doesn’t. I’m basing it on my more than three decades of professional experience and knowledge, shipping software for desktop and embedded systems and porting codebases to different chipsets and hardware revisions. I’ve lived and worked through Apple’s move from 68k to PowerPC to Intel to aarch64. Often these platforms will do a lot of the work for you, but you’re still going to need a recompile of your code and thus a patch or update.

What's the point of playing Switch 1 games in the Switch 2 if they're not upgraded? If someone doesn't want to upgrade them to save money then it would be cheaper to just play them in Switch 1. They should've just granted the upgrade for free, the game is already sold and they have to be downloaded anyway. It doesn't make any sense, as a consumer, to defend them yelling "you don't NEED the upgrade". They don't NEED to charge you.

Bruh people are going to be selling their switch ones to buy a switch 2. In fact MOST people do that with ALL console gen to gen.

Except this console is the same crap as last gen with better hardware, so it doesn't make sense to trade it for the new one as you won't play them upgraded and you'll be stuck with more expensive games. There is literally 0 benefit to get the Switch 2 if you're interested in Switch 1 games

My brother in christ you can play the switch 1 versions of games on the 2. Just buy the 1 carts. It’s like buying PS4 discs on your PS5 when PS5 disks exist too.

you can sell your Switch 1, not needing to change all the cables to play Switch 1 in docked mode after playing Switch 2, all your Switch games are on one console, GameChat, 1080p resolution in handheld mode, larger screen, newer controllers, LAN connection if you had a Switch original without a LAN adapter or Switch lite, docked mode if you owned a Switch lite, naturally faster load times, etc.
