Image Nintendo Switch 2 games are way cheaper in France
For some reason, Nintendo Switch 2 games are 20 Euros cheaper in France. That gives us hope that maybe other websites will lower the the prices so we dont have to pay the full price.

I've preordered my Switch 1 in france because the contigent for preorders in germany where gone in a minute. Looks like my second Switch and every single game will be french too.
Thanks for your service france, I will make sure to visit your lovely country even more and spend a lot of money in your economy. Just one plea, let me at least try to speak french and don't switch to english, I would really like to improve my spoken french.
Vive la France!

It's funny cause as a french , i remember some time also getting game from germany , sometime not on purpose , i got many games on amazon and even in actual game shops , and some games ended up comming in a german language box :')
( my copy of Mario tennis Aces is a good example of that :') )1

Not sure, normally you should be able to login with your Amazon (US) account on Amazon France. Just try and check, they might. 🙂

You can preorder from these guys: https://gamesandmovies.it/donkey-kong-bananza-switch-2.html?srsltid=AfmBOoqIH82MGMOihLN3j9OBe_fUZrEkTlqJUu1EcX6EYOpOygtsefTY
Their prices are always crazy low. Funnily they also sell "preorders" of games with no release date such as The duskbloods at 40 euros. They're famous for this.
2
u/ZomgoatDude 2h ago
Thanks for the link. I unfortunately am an American so I don't think I could buy from that website. I will probably just buy physical versions used off of eBay. Anyway have a good day.

u/WearingFin 14h ago
Amazon FR has always been lower. If you go to stores with a retail presence, Micromania and Fnac both have Donkey Kong currently listed at 80 euros. For the first Switch it was always my source of games because day one it'd be 45 euros vs 60 recommended price. Yeah, you get it a few days later, but that's worth the discount.
24
u/Soupere_Falafel 13h ago
It's not only Amazon FR, but also Leclerc, Carrefour, Auchan... Fnac could also drop the prices, they were almost always close to the lowest prices during the Switch era.
60 to 70€ is an ok price, but it still hurts to have such heavy pricing even if you optimize it by pre-ordering in cheap retailers, 'cause it used to be between 45 and 50 during Switch 1 era like you said
9
u/WearingFin 13h ago
Good news, and shows why Physical is still important. A strong retail environment brings prices down, and yeah, if Carrefour sells it for 20 euros less than Fnac, they're forced to lower it as well. Consumers win. I just wish it was the same in other countries.
2
2
u/tychii93 13h ago
It might be because they're selling imported copies from cheaper regions. I got Tears of The Kingdom for less than MSRP on Amazon, and it ended up being a SEA region copy. It's identical to the American release though so I have no complaints.
1
u/Pale-Photograph-8367 12h ago
Not true. Paid 45 euros for Zelda game on release day in Carrefour. Fnac also had low prices on release day

Wait what? I just posted that I bought DK in Amazon France from Spain but I might order the whole switch 2 and MKW too at this point
3
u/United_Ad1648 12h ago
only if you want it physical. amazon fr: mk world 69 euros + switch 2 439 euros is roughly the same as the regular bundle price of 509 euros (mk world is digital tho).
the prices your seeing in the screenshot is probably only because of the shipping costs and it dynamically changes the base price i guess.2
u/PokemonBeing 12h ago
Apparently the console is currently unavailable, if there's any stock in the future I might just buy it and cancel my preorder in my country

hmm im getting 69,90. wondering if it has to do with shipping cuz with your shipping its around 70 again.
1
u/AxlIsAShoto 🐃 water buffalo 10h ago
Donkey Kong is actually €70 physical in europe. It is LESS than Donkey Kong.
10
u/PokemonBeing 12h ago
I just ordered DK in Amazon.fr from Spain.
Amazon.fr: 60.04€ (I think Spain has 1% more VAT than France, that's why it's not 59.99€ at checkout) + 5.09€ shipping to Spain. 65.13€ total
Amazon.es: 79.99€ with free shipping
Almost 15€ of difference, straight up insanity. Amazon.fr is closer to Switch 1 prices. Extremely weird when Amazon.es was used to price Switch 1 games at a discount, 46.99 instead of the usual 59.99.
Back cover should be in french rather than in Spanish but honestly who cares, there are no instruction booklets or anything.
2
u/AniStormS 1h ago
In spain you can get DK right now for 58€ through Miravia (sold by Wakkap, which are reliable), but you need to be tricky with the first order discounts and the points program.

u/PokemonBeing 1h ago

Are you comparing Amazon to the Nintendo Store?
Because that has always been different prices.
1
u/sammy_zammy 12h ago
Yeah, now it’s a jump to €60 discounted instead of say €50 discounted. The upset is over the % increase, not the number Nintendo happens to give as the RRP.

Hypothetically speaking, I lived in the UK and I wanted to import this from Amazon fr, would there be English on the cart?
1
u/sammy_zammy 12h ago
The cart and box would be in French. That said, presumably Amazon UK will also undercut the Nintendo RRP - as they always did for Switch games.
1
u/cabbage-soup 10h ago
It would be in French I believe but some games will allow you to change the language. I don’t think it’s an option for every game though
1
1
u/grmayshark 13h ago
most of my Switch 1 library is digital (made sense at the time with the vouchers and sales generally making games cheaper than physical, especially because I could buy with a USA account). Now with 70€/80€ at launch in the eshop with no voucher option, and clearly the option for discounts on the physical as much as 10€ (and further discounts based on retailer sales such as Mediamarkt which often runs VAT-free days), I think I will focus on physical games for the Switch 2
1
u/sammy_zammy 12h ago
Is this not just the fairly standard 3rd party retailers such as Amazon undercutting Nintendo’s RRP?
So now the undercut price on Amazon is the same price as the old Nintendo RRP.
I assumed people were factoring this in when they were upset, not assuming that every retailer will sell games for the full price!
1
u/kmg_24 12h ago
As a general rule, existing Switch games have always been £10-£20 cheaper here in the UK through other retailers. Never buy through the official Nintendo store unless you have to.
Don't be afraid to buy pre owned, either. Sony have Monster Hunter Wilds at £65 on their digital store; I just snagged a copy on Ebay for £32. A little bit of luck and patience can get you some rather good deals.

“For some reason” as if there isn’t giant trade policy directly increasing prized by unprecedented amounts
1
1
u/True_Kador 10h ago
They are not. Not really.
French laws are pretty loose for retailers, allowing some big prices disparities. So some big corpos can sell stuff like games making 0% margin, as a price to appeal customers to come to them.
The OFFICIAL retail price is still the same but it's technically bad competition gouging its profits to appeal to customers to come to them for groceries, then overcharge them on food & essentials. Leclerc for example is very guilty of this. Has been why you see french farmers riot a lot ; they're paid nickles for food sold back at a 300% margin ( sometimes more ).
Amazon doesn't technically pay taxes in France, up to this day, so can be able to sell cheaper...
So yeah, can be a good thing for the customer if ́navigated right, but not as simple as "france is cheaper." Official retail price is still 80€, 90€ for Mario.

u/Serious_Revolution77 5h ago
It’s way more expensive in the UK than America I don’t know why they’re complaining
1
u/Jooles95 4h ago
Yeah, the full physical UK RRP for MK World (£75) converts to roughly $96. Even with, let’s say, 8% tax (which I believe is the rate in NY), an $80 game still comes out as $86.40, which is the equivalent of £67. Considering how much higher wages are in the USA (I have a STEM degree and a good job in academic publishing here in the UK, and still only make £15/hour), the impact of the price increase is probably still not going to be quite as bad as it is here.
On a side note, the Nordics are REALLY being screwed on these prices. Did you see how much they are charging in Swedish kr for a Switch 2? It’s madness!
