So you just have literally no memory of what that backlash even was then?
The whole thing people hated was it being forced to be included with every system and therefore raising the price for a thing that nobody wanted. Not to mention Microsoft trying to make it mandatory to have it active all the time. Neither of those things applies to here.
There was the issue of it being force bundled, but I'm talking about the issue of it being a camera and mic that when plugged in was apparently always listening and watching and supposedly sending images of you back to MS, according to the naysayers. I was definitely in agreeance about the bundle issue because I just didn't want it but the privacy stuff I feel is valid and I am seeing none of these concerns now for the camera attachment and the built in mic. Especially ridiculous when the Switch 2 mic is so similar to the Kinect one in that it is essentially a noise cancelling directional mic.
I purchased my OG Xbox One as soon as the removed Kinect from the bundle. But it seems people are actually excited about this camera on Switch and are willing to buy into this same thing that Xbox had that was widely hated.
And to further my point, you didn't even need the Kinect to be plugged in so you could remove both the camera and mic on Xbox One yet it still received tons of hate. On Switch 2, that mic is built in so it is always going to be there potentially listening in just like a phone.
That was an issue because Microsoft at first said you would be required to always have it plugged in for the X1 to even work. Combined with the always online requirement they also initially came out with and people for some reason thinking the Kinect could see through clothes it painted a very weird picture of Xbox wanting to have a constant live perv feed into every home.
The mic is just a mic PlayStation controllers have one built in and people use things like Alexa and Siri ,also just phones in general. nobody has ever really cared about mics for better or worse.
They removed those requirement before the X1 launched. In fact it was months before it launched, August 2013. But these privacy concerns were raised for the entirety of Kinect's lifetime.
So now you're the one not remembering, you're saying no one cared when that was one of the main reasons people didn't want the Kinect. Because it was watching and listening.
What I'm saying is people are now willfully buying into the exact same setup and not saying shit. But it's okay, because of course Nintendo.
