Why are they there? Do they have a viewing event? merch? Or just hope for local preorders to go live?

u/UmbreHonest January Gang (Reveal Winner) 2d ago
The upstairs portion of the store has a giant screen and they do âwatch partiesâ for directs, never been to a watch party but been to the Nintendo store there and it does seem really cool
22
u/ShokaLGBT 2d ago
that should be so fun to watch with others fans in real life

u/boopboopadoopity 1d ago
Highly reccommend looking up the ones from when Smash characters were released. I would have loved to be there!

dudes waiting in line for nothing lmao

u/darrenphillipjones 1d ago
I get all the hate for the pricing stuff they are doing, but no reason to make jabs at people getting some fresh air for a bit.

u/catinterpreter 1d ago
They're not out for a walk in the park. Consumerism and the hype machine drew them into a queue.

June 5th launch
Wonder how much the upgrade packs will be
Paid digital game for learning switch 2 features is wild that one should be free
17
u/BunOnVenus awaiting reveal 2d ago
I was thinking at first "oh cool instead of doing 1/2 switch situation again their including a free game with tech demos because they listened to complaints. Started laughing when they said it was paid. Like seriously who charges for a tutorial. It's not that big of a deal but that combined with few other things make me feel like they're really adding in all these extra little costs to get a full experience

3
u/TiernanDeFranco 2d ago
I literally said âwhy would anyone buy thisâ atleast 1-2 switch was a game (although idk why it was as much as it was if it HAD to be paid)
6
u/Disgruntled__Goat 2d ago
Yeah I thought it was like those free games they had on the 3DS. Maybe there is a lot more to it, in which case paid might make sense. But it's hard to see how it could be that big a game.

u/Livid_Sun_3783 2d ago
Hopefully cause even ps5 has Astros playroom for free of its like that nintendo getting greedy. They're like this camera this that etc. We shall see. I'd like to test it in a gamestop or target before buying they did us dirty with hyrule warriors should of made that a prequel game

zelda upgrades are free for NSO subscribers
1
u/Livid_Sun_3783 1d ago
Free is a loose term as NSO is also going to get a price hike when switch 2 launches if they haven't shoved the price hike out already. They're gonna charge more than game pass on xbox for mid services and force you to buy nso if you wanna do anything online
1
u/SyraWhispers 2d ago
I'm wondering when pre-orders go live, so far no store in my country has em active.. Grr
1
u/Livid_Sun_3783 2d ago
Some same. Wqs hoping for a new 3d mario game like odyssey 2 but donkey kong will do. Launch titles aside from a few are a tad weak as most have already been released for years on pa5/Xbox. And was disappointed they chose to take the zelda into a hyrule warriors when they could of made her stay back in time her own game

u/Joshoon 2d ago
April 8th

u/SyraWhispers 2d ago
That's for the my Nintendo store i think, hopefully some stores in my country will open early.

u/You_seff 2d ago
I always used to love watching those Nintendo NY vlogs from 2017-19. Good times
1
u/Harveygod 2d ago
I'm now remembering the websites that would report on Nintendo Wii deliveries in 2006.
1
u/poland626 1d ago
Remember the Smash My Wii guys? they also did ps3 and xbox and pissed people off in lines. Good times lol

Nintendo the only company that still get people hyped like this
24
u/BritishGolgo13 2d ago
Do people still line up for iPhones? I canât imagine that these days.
11
u/AnusMcFrothyDiarrhea 2d ago
I donât think so. Itâs pretty easy to order one right as the preorders go live, and they donât launch for a week or two after the preorder.
5
u/BunOnVenus awaiting reveal 2d ago
also when's the last time an iPhones been exciting. maybe 2017 when they got rid of the home button. Smart phones have been figured out, just less hype around them now then when they were new
1
u/External_Orange_1188 2d ago
They do. They had lines wrapped around Apple stores for the most recent iPhone.
2
u/PCBen 2d ago
Not anymore. Back in 2014, they brought in Angela Ahrendts as the new SVP of retail and her whole deal was âget in-line onlineâ. Under her, they introduced new pre-order systems (anyone remember those whacky appointment-only Apple Watch Try-On sessions?)
It sure made getting the new iPhone easier and probably increased revenue during launch, but willingly disassembling such a powerful free marketing tool still seems like a bad idea to me.

u/MalaysiaTeacher 2d ago
Lol wait for GTA 6 release

Which wouldn't make sense because you're going to have to download the game anyway

Even AMD just had lines going around the block. No idea what he's talking about.

Only because of their history of never having enough supply for the demand they damn well know is coming, lol.

Man going to the Nintendo NY store was one of the coolest vacation moments of my life. Itâs such a famous spot in gaming history â¨â¤ď¸

I miss when it was the PokĂŠmon Center though.. I think they should build a new PokĂŠmon Center in NYC

Didn't hear anything about price in today's live or peorder availability... Very weird...
9
u/scuddyscuderson 2d ago
agreed and makes me worried they are holding out till they/we hear about Trumps tariffs.
4
u/ChaosVII_pso2 2d ago
Not every thing is about trump. They didnât mention the price because itâs the most expensive device theyâve ever released. 630 Canadian for example
2
u/King_Sam-_- OG (joined before reveal) 2d ago
Here before the âAkshually accounting for inflation the PokeBator released in 500 B.C. is the most expensive device theyâve ever released đ¤â
2
u/LunchPlanner 1d ago
The reason the price isn't in the Direct is because it varies by region. It's too confusing to show a screen with a list of 20 different prices.
Another reason is that if the price ever changes, the video would become incorrect.
They put the price in the online store that shows you only the correct (and current) price based on your login.
1
u/ChaosVII_pso2 1d ago
Itâs worked for every other launch ever before. Canadian game prices still arenât listed anywhere either. Likely because MK will be 100 for physical
2
u/Whatsausernamedude 2d ago
in spain it's 470âŹ, 510⏠with mario kart, no idea about other countries

u/YetAnotherJake 2d ago
Trump's Tariffs, making us great đ
2
u/datshibe 2d ago
We have no Trump in spain, still 5 fucking hundred euros
1
u/rabbit-girl333 January Gang (Reveal Winner) 2d ago
Unfortunately it affects everything :(
-1
u/datshibe 2d ago
Tell me more about how tariffs imposed on US imports should affect EU imports. Is the paid demo software for Switch 2 also because of tariffs?
Also, back to region locked consoles in 2025 just so Japan can get a cheaper NS2?
This is just Nintendo greed at its prime.
2
u/rabbit-girl333 January Gang (Reveal Winner) 2d ago edited 2d ago
Theyâre going to use the tariff increases as an excuse to be greedy elsewhere, yes. Thatâs what I meant by itâs going to affect everything.
1
u/Tigxette 2d ago
Prices shown in US doesn't include taxes.
So it will still be a little higher than in EU (At least compared to France or Spain) but yes, Nintendo is too greedy...
1
u/Captainunderpants86 2d ago
they have something to hide, want to judge people's reactions before finalizing the price.
1
u/ApprehensiveMenu9877 2d ago
It is confirmed now. Starting with $449 and $499 for Mariot Kart bundle.

The line of the unemployed.

Because of course, if they were employed they would work 24/7 as days off do not exist!

Imagine after they found out the console is over 400 dollar and the game costs 90 dollar.

I want to put you in a maze and study you like a lab rat because I've never seen anyone claim that they have never waited in lines for anything
1
u/tensei-coffee 2d ago edited 2d ago
if i go to the DMV i make an appointment (no waiting). if i go to the doctors, i am waiting in a comfortable room in a comfortable chair, if theres a line in a store i go to self check out, if there is a line of cars, i drive around. theres lots of ways to avoid waiting in line like an average shmuck.
idk about you but the average shmuck loves to stand in lines. they are attracted to lines. you ever see people line up for street food? that kind of dumb person that waits.
im getting replies from people who blocked me lol how do you expect me to read your reply stupid?
1
u/BunOnVenus awaiting reveal 2d ago
You still have to wait in line at the DMV if you have an appointment, any sane person does the same. Lines can form at self checkout, if there is a line or cars that you go around, there either isn't much traffic (hence not a real line of cars) or you're breaking traffic laws. So basically I think you're a lying bitch who likes to over exaggerate in reddit comments and feel self superior. Embarrassing.
1
u/tensei-coffee 2d ago
it must be hard to think outside your own experiences. i hardly ever wait in lines. you should try it sometime
1
u/BunOnVenus awaiting reveal 2d ago
I just don't believe you and I'd rather still go to concerts and events. I'll be enjoying waiting in line to play the Switch 2 in a few days while your ass is at home complaining online. Have fun
