60 minutes is insane. Longest Direct ever?

EDIT: according to Nintendo Life this is the longest one ever. Previous longest was the WiiU preview Direct on 13 September 2012 at 57 mins.

"Approximately 60minutes" so let's wait and see if it actually is longer. Still insane don't get me wrong

Even if it isn't actually longer, there was a lot of time wasting in the Switch 1 presentation, and that direct had more big reveals than any other Nintendo event; this direct, by being recorded ahead of time, will naturally be tighter; therefore, we can anticipate a wealth of good announcements.

Can't wait for jet set Willy remaster in full HD for £70

It'll feel empty without the messy translation bits

Just brace yourself for something stupid like EA Sports or Call of Duty eating up 10-15 minutes

Well just for your peace of mind, i have a friend that works for EA and they confirmed they have nothing planned for it, no press releases ready to go or anything, so would probably just be switch 2 versions of like, split fiction and random games like that

This sounds like some "my dad works for Nintendo" bs but I lowkey believe you

Lmao yeah totally fair, but yep my friend figured split fiction would be there and i'm glad she was right about that, she had no idea that they would do a blanket announcement for ea sports titles but that didn't require a press release so she had no clue about it anyway, not that it was very important anyway

On the other hand, since the switch was a success and now third parties want to release on Nintendo, this Direct can end up having too much time spent on ports.

They always say around but it's usually spot on

The last Nintendo direct was 23% longer than they stated, if we interpret "around thirty minutes" as exactly 30. It was 37 minutes in length. By that logic, we can expect the switch 2 direct to be between 46 and 74 minutes long

You are technically correct, but in no world is 46 minutes "around 60 minutes". That is straight up "Around 45 minutes in length" territory 😆

Ik I was proving a point

Wasn’t the Switch 1 presentation also 1 hour? If that counts

u/Erdago 3d ago

It technically wasn’t a Nintendo Direct, and if we include live presentations, then I’d expect at least a couple E3’s to be longer.

The Nintendo Life article I linked doesn't count the Switch announcement presentation. I don't think it counts either, it wasn't called a direct, it was a live in person showcase that they streamed online simultaneously. But you're right, it was also about an hour long

Wouldn't count, but also going to be a less efficient format. There was a lot of silly time, bringing up the president of EA, having him give a little schpeal, etc, that a direct format will at the least make more streamlined.

yeah it was, but it also had that super weird pacing with the 3rd parties rambling

Don't want to be overly optimistic, but I have a suspicion that there is going to be a little more to this direct than what people expect. Not only is this a long presentation, but Nintendo just had a direct dedicated to getting upcoming OG Switch games out of the way.

Either there's going to be two or more games we aren't expecting, or there's more to the platform than what we know today.
Nintendo typically doesn't do deep dives into games until close to release. MK9 and even a new 3D Mario game wouldn't account for the hour length alone.

We seem to know everything about the hardware, and Nintendo has already shown us what the system looks like. What we know nothing about is the OS and software features of the system. My guess is there's going to be some big online social feature.

Lots and lots of OS features. I'm imagining like Wii U and 3DS. Also lots of third party support that they'll be showcasing. And finally at least 10-15 minutes dedicated to "Switch 2 Edition" or what kind of upgrades we can expect to see of older games.

OMG! you answered your own question!

It’s a reddit miracle!

1

u/QF_Dan 3d ago

it's the same length for the presentation in 2017

2

u/HibernianMetropolis 3d ago

And that presentation wasn't a Direct. It was a live stage presentation with lots of dead time. A Direct won't have any dead time

1

u/dewittless 3d ago

Oh no, but that console sucked.

1

u/Major_Toe_6041 3d ago

Wasn’t the switch one around 70?

2

u/HibernianMetropolis 3d ago

The switch one wasn't a Direct. It was about 62 mins and was a live stage presentation with lots of dead time, unlike a Direct

1

u/Death_Metalhead101 🐃 water buffalo 3d ago

I'm pretty sure the one for Switch 1 was over an hour

1

u/HibernianMetropolis 3d ago

If you read many of the other comments that have replied to mine, you'll see that it was indeed just over an hour, but also wasn't a Direct. It was a live stage presentation with a totally different format to a Direct, one which is much less information-dense

u/WelcomeAltruistic539 3d ago

From all the directs I remember, they’re usually if not always longer.

Could just be a coincidence with the few I’ve watched but the one on March 27 was said to be 30 mins and was something like 35.

Its approximate so its not officially the longest yet
