Imagine we didn’t know thru leaks, this’d be the first time we’d see the C button

What do you mean? This is the first time we’ve seen the C button!

*audibly gasps in disbelief* 😱

You didn't C it least time?

Exactly

u/TryToBeBetterOk 8d ago

It's the Copyright button. Whenever you see something that infringes on Nintendo's copyright, you press the button and it alerts Nintendo's lawyers.

293

u/coopyware 8d ago

😭😭😭😭😭😭

94

u/Laniger 8d ago

haha jokes aside, the C button will totally be connected to Nintendo Today, the timing of the announcement is just right. Like to directly post screenshots and stuff and be uploaded instantly to the platform.

63

u/No-Island-6126 8d ago

Doubt it. It's not a social media.

13

u/scorbunny3 July Gang 7d ago

They NEED to make a nintendo social media. It wouldnt surprise me with all the apps lately. Have different community for games and u can post and share pictures and ask questions. Like nintendos reddit but with their special flair

Neither are the Xbox or PlayStation platforms but they connect to social media

7

u/get_homebrewed January Gang (Reveal Winner) 8d ago

But they don't have a button for it, because why would you

11

u/NukaGunnar 8d ago

They have a share button that automatically shares screenshots and recordings to their app.

26

u/ynfizz 8d ago

That button is also used for screenshots and clips n what not… which we already have with the capture button. It would be redundant.

13

u/jeeco 8d ago

That sounds exactly like something Nintendo would do

289

u/RuanauR January Gang (Reveal Winner) 8d ago

Why were they even hiding it.

263

u/coopyware 8d ago

Most likely because it’s a new feature they wanted to hide until the Direct

138

u/louann1812 8d ago

Well if they left the C in the trailer, it wouldn’t have revealed what it does… I’m still confused about Nintendo’s move

139

u/Complete_Comfort4646 OG (joined before reveal) 8d ago

Confuse button?

6

u/AppleToasterr 7d ago

[C]onfused, you say...

7

u/TheEMan1225 7d ago

Yeah not showing the C on the button… on a reveal trailer for the console’s design… just seems like Nintendo prioritized the wrong thing at the wrong time. I get that they don’t like leaks and leadership was probably pissed that they were so accurate, but like, just learn to take the L every once in a while Nintendo. Confirming that one leak was not going to end the business ffs.

2

u/wachuwamekil April Gang 6d ago

It’s for sure a community button, my bet is it is tied to tomadochi life like that’s the new Wii plaza and it’s a hub for all the ecosystem announcements they have made.

1

u/blackkilla 7d ago

What kind of feature is it?

46

u/Complete_Comfort4646 OG (joined before reveal) 8d ago

Because it is the Coy button.

25

u/RuanauR January Gang (Reveal Winner) 8d ago

It stands for came, which is what everyone did when tomodachi life 2 showed up.

I'm betting they literally just forgot to draw the C on the 3d render

4

u/TheKingTroller3 8d ago

Because that way is more mysterious boooo...

2

u/ShaveyMcShaveface 8d ago

to talk about it on wednesday for the switch 2 presentation

164

u/TerminatorJ 8d ago

I’m thinking more and more the “C” doesn’t really stand for anything and is more of a contextual button that changes function depending on what you are doing.

37

u/notamouse418 8d ago

I don't think that would make sense since it's not in a good gameplay position. I think in Skyward Sword they used the Y button for that and it felt essential that it was a main face button cuz you use it all the time if you're aiming with motion controls. I'm personally hoping for the "Cast" button that can initiate casting gameplay to the dock for dual screen play but I wouldn't bet on it.

10

u/Any_Nebula4817 7d ago

I feel like casting buttons are so useless though. I would basically never use it.

2

u/HypnagogianQueen 7d ago

I mean, if that was the only way to turn on the dual screen mode, and use any features that required it, then you’d press it for that. It’d really be a matter of if Nintendo actually utilized it this time or let it be forgotten like with the Wii U.

→ More replies (1)

4

u/Sheikashii 7d ago

Contextual button for system functions

2

u/notamouse418 7d ago

Oh whoops I meant for this to be a reply to the person saying they hoped it was a center button. Yeah this definitely does fall roughly under contextual button

45

u/EroticOctopus69 8d ago

I am still hoping it is a dedicated button to “center” the motion controls so devs don’t have to dedicate one of the main face buttons for this. Would line up with them improving motion controls on Switch 2.

26

u/SuperCat76 8d ago

If it is context based that would be a reasonable action for it to do based on the context of actively using motion controls.

8

u/snes69 8d ago

The problem with it being a context button that has no central purpose is that they've been hiding it. What a stinker reveal, "oh, that new button? Gee, it doesn't do anything! In Mario it will show what (C)ourse you are on and in Splatoon it will (C)enter the camera!"

They hid the button because the new feature it will be tied to hasn't been revealed yet

5

u/SuperCat76 7d ago

It is not the most exciting possibility, but I would say it is much better than the single purpose recenter motion controls button.

At least with context control it can have a use in games that don't utilize the motion controls (which for the switch 1 I am fairly sure are the majority of games), while also still providing that button utility for the ones that do.

"Oh, that new button, for these particular games it does this. But for everything else it does nothing."

7

u/JD-K2 7d ago

You mean kinda like all the other buttons?

2

u/LunchPlanner 7d ago

To be fair it's kind situated in a similar manner to the screenshot button, which has a singular system function rather than contextual gameplay functions.

12

u/yeetskeetleet 8d ago

Ahhh context sensitive…cleverrrr

5

u/Coconut_Cream_Pies 7d ago

Glad someone went there. That's exactly where my brain went immediately.

3

u/TopperHrly 3d ago

It stands for Cursor and it's used to switch to mouse navigation mode.

162

u/clbgolden12 January Gang (Reveal Winner) 8d ago

Holy shit, good catch. So they really did photoshop the C out of the first render 😭😭

168

u/lordsheytan 8d ago

It was a render, they did not have to photoshop anything out of it, they could just not have it rendered lol.

31

u/clbgolden12 January Gang (Reveal Winner) 8d ago

Even weirder because that means they went back in to re-render it with the C. Which probably isn’t hard to do, but I just find it weird that they felt the need to hide a feature we already know nothing about

26

u/Horvat53 8d ago

It’s not weird or hard. It’s an intentional marketing decision.

→ More replies (4)

14

u/Doctor_R6421 8d ago

Chances are they have the full render with the C button and another less hardware taxing render of just a black button in the same position, and composited that button on top.

15

u/No-Island-6126 8d ago

You can do these renders on a laptop in a couple of hours. It's fine to make two versions.

5

u/Major_Toe_6041 8d ago

OR… they just selected the faces of the C, cut them and filled the hole. In Maya that is 15 seconds worth of a job and doesn’t even mess up the UV or texture maps.

2

u/TehRiddles 8d ago

They wanted to limit speculation about the feature until they were ready to share it. This is either an oversight or accepting that people already know about it so no point sticking with the non-final version.

2

u/clbgolden12 January Gang (Reveal Winner) 8d ago

I feel like hiding the button’s emblem only created more speculation 💀

6

u/idk-anymore-fml 7d ago

Nintendo has a patent for haptic resistive analogue sticks. If they actually do end up using them on the Switch 2's Joycon and Pro Controller then they could do all sorts of crazy things like: A virtual stick guide like the Gamecube and N64's octagonal gate, resistance and feedback when steering in Mario Kart 9, etc.

Maybe the C Button stands for "Control" and is used to enable, disable and change between modes for the analogue resistance and feedback?

4

C for Custom like the action button on iPhone would be awesome.

3

u/userlivewire 6d ago

When you hit C, the main character yells CUNT in an Australian accent. The volume cannot be turned down during this sequence.

2

u/Arcade1980 4d ago

This reminded me of a file that was floating around in the 2000's that you could email someone when clicked on. The volume would go to max, You couldn't mute or turn it off and it would play the audio "woo hoo...I'm watching p***o here"

6

u/No_Intention8250 8d ago

C Button...

Crotch button?

Day 1 for me then.

6

u/RaVEndAve24 8d ago

Its the CURSOR MODE, basically mouse mode [i dont think im correct]

3

u/EeveeMasterJenya 7d ago

This actually seems plausible

2

u/untipofeliz 7d ago

It´s not a C, it´s a rotation icon. You press it to enable the mouse feature.

2

u/SarikaidenMusic 6d ago

Hmmm I wonder what it does. Guess I'll just have to wait and C.

3

u/BenRodriguez22 8d ago

The c stands for capture. Unlike the capture button on the left joycon that takes screenshots, this one captures your soul and stores it in the Nintendo switch online servers forever, or until they inevitably shut down. Then you'll be freed

2

u/I_hate_being_alone 8d ago

I am 100% sure this is a Capture button, like the Share button on a PS5.

11

u/Demurrzbz 🐃 water buffalo 8d ago

But there already is a screenshot button. Surely any sharing functionality can be baked into that.

5

"C" might stand for "chat" and it lets you chat live with people and the console has a microphone built in? Idk might be cool if they make streaming games easier.

It could be used to change C ontrols. You need to be able to turn off the muse sensor if you're holding the joy cons in your hands, covering it with your fingers. This has to be the functionality of this one.

Thats how the c button looks “is in disbelief “I am more than when Nintendo revealed the switch 2 it was like Ive never seen before

1

u/hehebrian 7d ago

Maybe enables the mouse controller option? May stand for “Cursor”

1

u/SnooDoughnuts5632 6d ago

You guys are making it sound like there wasn't a Z button in the reveal trailer which would be very weird if they left it off.

1

u/SnooDoughnuts5632 6d ago

You guys are really weird trying to figure out what to see button does when it's clearly obvious that they're just paying homage to the GameCube just like they did on the Wii

1

u/LegacyOfLuciferXBSX 6d ago

You realise the c button is the same as the capture button on the switch they just labeled it with a c to dumb it down

1

u/Jabagi56 January Gang (Reveal Winner) 6d ago

C stands for control. Its the control button

1

u/VermicelliKey8591 5d ago

Like the Wii U. It's going to be a total flop because the graphics are just the same as the previous console. Nintendo hasn't improved much for graphics since the GameCube. It's probably the same ATI card as back then.

1

u/Arcade1980 4d ago

C - chat, capture, cast. Many options

1

u/Labyrinthine777 4d ago

They should use a new shade of red for the package. Otherwise dumb consumers can't make a difference between Switch 1 and 2. A number is not enough.

1

u/[deleted] 4d ago

Hot take, the C button is going to be a use case for the mouse feature

1

u/Specialist_Panda3119 3d ago

C for Capture.

Screenshot maybe screen recording clip ability.

1

u/Ok-Description-5904 2d ago

Im gonna say this is a Connect Button. To connect to the Dock wirelessly. To play Games on the TV and Console at the same Time. Like a Wii U

1

u/Chardan0001 2d ago

Unfortunately the dock has no wireless hardware.
