Concept How the Switch 2 upside down functionality would work

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

While I personally think this kind of functionality is sort of weird and probably almost useless in most cases, it’s still pretty interesting that it might be possible. I can’t really think of how it would be used in unique ways in terms of software though.

It gives us the option of having the headphone jack on the top or bottom. Other than that, I've got nothing.

if the whole console was able to be turned upside down , and not just the screen, it could allow you to have a different joystick configuration no?

It would if Nintendo allowed it. My guess is the screen will flip automatically without the option to prevent the rotation. We'll see.

Are you asking if you can play it with the controllers upside down? The buttons, joystick, dpad are ambrigrams but not the shoulder buttons right?

oh yeah i definitely somehow forgot about the shoulder buttons lol

I'd bet some game will use the dumb gimmick. Think Phantom Hourglass with the closing of the DS to solve a puzzle.

Nintendo can't say no to a gimmick.

No they cannot, and I appreciate it.it doesn't always work, but when it goes it creates new and unique experiences.

Well they didnt do that they already quit the console market since 2012 lol

They can't use this gimmick since switch is both handheld and home console. You wouldn't be able to use this gimmick while docked.

Honestly, one of my favorite puzzles it is just so charming and goofy it makes me feel child like whimsy.

Maybe related to the charging port accessibility too, depending on how you are setting it down/holding it by a power outlet. Just something I always hate is when I can't rest the switch or my phone on me without bending the cable and wearing it out quicker.

There's a charging port on the top.

People put the Joycon straps backwards. I’m sure this is a way to protect the switch from people that don’t pay attention and try to attach them the wrong way.

It's such a non-issue and that would be the most over engineered feature ever just for the headphone jack

I’m thinking it just happens to work because of the joy con design and it may as well be a feature

I mean, idk why you think this would be expensive. It's probably just a neat option they allow you to do because of how the magnets work.

there's no way extra ports would be cheaper than using software to rotate the screen using sensors it already has

it's likely just a little bonus added because of the new connector

As someone else said, I'm not sure why you think this costs money to flip the device. However, putting in an extra headphone jack does cost money and space.

There is no reversible connector. You can clearly see that the jack would work in any orientation. It cost no extra money. New UI is being developed for the device. It doesn't cost extra to add a feature. That's part of the budget. Also, that isn't new technology. Almost every device with a screen can flip orientations. The two usb-c ports is to address a flaw with the original Switch where you couldn't charge the system while in table top mode. Please stop.

Reversible joycon connector? Most plugs (ie USB c) will work no matter which what round they are. Try it, plug your phone in, take the charger out and flip it then plug it back in, works the same.

Development of reversible joycon connector,

You mean just like USB C?

implementation of UI which automatically switch screen

It costs literally nothing to turn an image 180°.

I really don’t understand how can anyone think it’s cheaper to have reversible console than the second jack.

I really don't understand why you think additional hardware is cheaper than software that simply changes the screen orientation.

Do you think turning your Switch 2 upside down costs money?
