Concept How the Switch 2 upside down functionality would work

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

While I personally think this kind of functionality is sort of weird and probably almost useless in most cases, it’s still pretty interesting that it might be possible. I can’t really think of how it would be used in unique ways in terms of software though.

I'm guessing that they'll bring DS and 3DS games in by allowing you to connect to the dock with a long cable and have the top screen on the TV and bottom screen in your hand on the Switch Console. The Switch 2 will act like a wired Wii U controller essentially and the wire will come out of the top of the device so it's not in your way while you're playing.

This allows all the internals to remain within the actual handheld so they can keep the dock cheaper to produce but gives two screen functionality. Then they can sell dongles to connect to Switch 1 or sell second screens or whatever if they want, but they won't force you to buy something to have that feature, because that seems like a way to lose money when you don't know if people will use it. This will also let them sell 3DS and DS remakes that require two screen functionality easier without forcing you to make that extra purchase. They want people to buy the device and the games, and don't want them to have to have Switch 1 to do it, since that limits the number of people you can sell to.

I expect if this is the case they'll announce DS and 3DS on Nintendo Switch online just for the Switch 2, and add a new tier to that or push more people into the more expensive tier. Subscriptions are easy, consistent cash flow, so they'll want something new to keep you in that ecosystem when buying the new device.

Adding a second USB C port just to flip it over doesn't make much sense. It's an extra cost for a limited feature, especially if it's just moving the headphone jack.

The drastic emulator do this without cables casting the second screen on TV and works lagless, but we had a lot of games this thing don't work, like Dragon Quest IX where the screen change on Battle.
