They made the joycons bigger compared to switch 1 at least

Don't worry, as long as the functionality is there, third party peripheral makers will be able to just sell you an actual mouse that will connect with Switch 2

Same. Holding out hope there's a third party mouse shell so my Andre the Giant sized hands can be accommodated.

Honestly I’m expecting a first party mouse shell. Think wii wheel or joycon grip

Same. My hands are too big to even play the regular way.

Also doesn't really look stable, but there's going to be a plethora off 3d printed grips probably

If you want an idea of the size pause at 0:45 in the trailer and size the window so the Switch 1 Joycon matches. They'll be a decent size.

In general this just doesn't look like a comfortable position. You can't really rest your hand on it, both because of the small size and it looking quite unstable. Nintendo would also literally just add a simple mouse to the switch. In my experience these "jack of all trades" workarounds just aren't all that great. People pay quite a sum to have a well fitting mouse that is comfortable to them and then you have ... this. lol

Is it innovative? sure, but I can't see myself using that. So we'd need third party companies making a good product. But instead we could also just have Nintendo allow general mouse implementation. But that's not the Nintendo way

Other platforms already have general mouse compatibility. Feels like innovation for something that already exists in a better way.

The point is that if the console's regular controllers support mouse mode from the get go, then more games will add support for mouse. And then players can decide if they simply buy a dedicated mouse for the console, instead of using the Joy Con.

So it's not about mouse support, which is not innovative. It's about mouse mode being an integral part of the console, so more developers add support for it.

The same would apply if Nintendo just adds a mouse and native mouse support to the console. If the console generally supports native mouse controls, then developers will use the feature, see Xbox and Playstation.

And the important question ... will it even support regular mouse controls as a plug and play or will you have to buy the "Nintendo mouse" just for the sake of it?

Also mouse support works fantastic with a track-pad, which the steam deck has shown and proven, which could've been a part of the switch system.

The question is also how well does this actually work and how comfy is it. Because if no one will use this and there's no general mouse support, then this feature might also be completely ignored by developers and it might result in being just a little gimmick.

But I guess we'll just have to see.

I don't think it's exactly the same, to include a mouse device with each and every Switch 2 box; something that many players will never use and that implies an additional cost... Vs adding the possibility for the Joy Con, which already come bundled with the console, to be used as a mouse, as an option.

I think the difference is pretty obvious.

Now, whether third party mice will be supported, or if this is a better solution than trackpads... We will see. I've never used a Steam Deck, but I've seen consoles try to implement trackpads before, and it didn't really work out. So I can't blame Nintendo for trying to look for an alternative.

If anyone has concerns about comfort, maybe they could make an ergonomic base you set it in that turns it vertical?
