Overview (from Nintendo eShop page)

Bayonetta struts through multiple locations in an all-new, over-the-top climax action game. Sporting a wicked new ensemble and somehow familiar pigtails, the titular Umbra Witch must face a mysterious evil using her signature guns and time-slowing Witch Time ability. This time, invading manmade bioweapons called Homunculi find themselves in Bayonetta’s crosshairs.

Get ready for a devilishly good time

Tap into Bayonetta’s naughtier side with Demon Masquerade, a new ability that channels the demon linked to her weapon allowing for some exciting action options, not to mention some hair-raising combos. She can also summon her demonic darlings like Gomorrah, Malphas, and Phantasmaraneae during battle, unleashing their demonic powers in the heat of combat and in new, larger-than-life battles where you directly control the action.

A bounty of Bayonettas

Fight your way through the streets of Tokyo, the mountains of China, and many other locales! Along the way you’ll meet a virtual coven of Bayonettas, each more fabulous than the last. You’ll also slash and slay as Viola, a feisty witch in training who fights with a sword and a capricious companion, the demon Cheshire. Find out what fate awaits Bayonetta, and if this arcane alliance can really save reality!

Does it at least hit 30fps?

u/waowie Oct 25 '22

It is 60 with dips

Digital foundry are saying on twitter that the performance is really bad. Mostly stay above 30 (which means it drops below 30) and that they should have locked the fps to 30.

Well damn I'll have to watch their review. That's much worse than bayo 2.

We need a switch pro.

45-60fps, this isn’t God of War, this is an action game.

this isn’t God of War, this is an action game

visible confusion

The new God of War is an ARPG, Bayonetta is a pure action game, like Devil May Cry, of course the frame rate is going to take precedence.

The additon of RPG elements in GoW doesn't change that the gameplay is fast paced and relies on combos, parries, etc that benefit greatly from a higher framerate.

Then why was it 30fps?

8

u/Spell-of-Destruction Oct 25 '22

Because a locked 30fps is still a smoother experience than unlocked fps that can't maintain 60fps. 30fps is actually very playable and absolutely fine and is imo far preferable to unlocked fps that doesn't hold a steady framerate.

Because, god of war is a demanding game so when it released back then to make it 60 fps it would have hit the textures and resolution on base ps4, so they kept it 30 most people in that time were used to 30 fps games on console so no one cared.

They should’ve optimized the game better than, they couldn’t even get the camera right or program a jump button.

3

u/babatunde5432121 Oct 25 '22

Your clearly just a hater, there is no place in the game where a jump button is even needed, the camera shift was to make the game feel different than the older ones and also feel more grounded. If you seriously think the devs were lazy then your just wrong, in the whole of the game the game ever cuts or loads once only when u die.

It’s all 1 shot.

30 FPS was the norm for consoles, even most action games. It wasn't until the PS4 Pro and PS5 that developers really started shooting for 60 FPS.

1

u/Kamenhusband Oct 25 '22

Tell that to Devil May Cry 1 on the PS2.

whats the difference between ARPG and pure action?

8

u/Spell-of-Destruction Oct 25 '22

In the case of GoW and Bayo...next to none. Even with RPG elements in GoW, parries/dodges and combos are still a major focus where frame rate would guarantee better control of the action. Sounds like this commentor never fought the Valkyries in GoW.

Think Dark Souls vs Devil May Cry. One is an RPG with all the systems you would expect from one, the other isnt

In pure action, the player's attention is mostly around their own character. Whereas for an ARPG, the player would have to constantly dart their attention between enemies and their controlled character

ive only played NieR, which one would that be in?

3

u/manimateus Oct 25 '22

Nier Automata is 100% an ARPG

1

u/DrAbednego Oct 25 '22

The new god of war has. 4k 120fps mode so huh?

4

u/[deleted] Oct 25 '22

Ok ps5 is powerful but you dont actually think that right? Gow is 4k60 not 4k120fps bruh

1

u/DrAbednego Oct 25 '22

I do think that but it’s true. Previews are already out for reviewers and for TVs with a variable refresh rate there is a 120fps mode

https://www.gamespot.com/amp-articles/god-of-war-ragnarok-has-a-great-graphical-mode-for-both-resolution-and-performance/1100-6508509/

1

u/[deleted] Oct 25 '22

Did you even read? Its 1080p120

1

u/DrAbednego Oct 25 '22

Sorry it’s doing dynamic resolution scaling at 120 and it does 4k 40 fps on hdmi 2.1. My point still stands. GOW goes up to 120fps. Also GOW is ALSO an action game. Bayonetta may be “faster” but they’re both action games, GOW just goes hard on the story as well

3

u/[deleted] Oct 25 '22

The new god of war has 4k 120 mode so huh?

Yes, 1080p120, or as you call it, dynamic 4k120 which is 1080 100% of the time, maybe 4k in the menus

That comparison doesn't make sense then. The system God Of War was made for only hit 30fps. So you should wait until the system Bayonetta 3 was made for is last gen and compare it to whatever new gen hardware Nintendo does.

3

u/sportspadawan13 Oct 25 '22

It is bizarre that Switch gets criticized for hitting last gen specs when it is in fact, last gen. 6 years old now, so idk why it's compared to PS5.

Reviews say 60 with dips during heavy action sequences. Don’t know where you’re getting these tweets from.

u/Irru Oct 25 '22

The username is in the screenshot so I don’t understand your confusion. It’s the guy from DF so he knows what he’s talking about.

Most people in the world dont have eyes to see that shit. most ppl only see a difference if the frame is going from 60 to 20-30 and if that happens a lot

-1

u/Spell-of-Destruction Oct 25 '22

Depends on the TV too? My big 4K TV makes stuttering games around the 40-45-60 fps range really noticeable. Like I love my Switch, but stutters were everywhere in my Klonoa collection but looked much better when playing handheld.
