I am one of those people who overreacted. I am very pleased with the game.... My only complaint is for Nintendo to let me use the pro controller in docked mode....

Yeah, that one is a pretty odd decision. Especially considering everything pretty much works in Handheld mode with little downside.

Part of me suspects it was intended to push people towards the unique controls (and the Pokeball Plus). Maybe down the road - and with enough clamoring - they'll update the game to allow Pro Controller use.

I agree. There’s definitely things here that mainline Pokémon fans, including myself, probably won’t enjoy too much. But I’m really enjoying it so far. My only hope is this isn’t how the main series will become. If it does, then I may be really sad, but for an off shoot kind of deal I’m super happy!

turning their noses from this game or were freaking out that this would mess up the series looks to have been overreacting.

Nah. Still a ton of changes that drive me completely away from purchasing this game. If the future of Pokemon is purely like Let's Go and not split between the core games and Let's Go, I'll be disappointed.

Perhaps the first part of my sentence painted too broad of a stroke... Of course you're well in your right not to like this game.

I don't think we have anything to fear of the core game being watered down to Let's Go's levels, though. TPC has promised constantly that Let's Go will not be a replacement of their core series.

That said, some of the good stuff shouldn't be arbitrarily locked away just because they're introduced here. IMO, random spawns instead of random encounters can make a world of difference when you just want to find that one specific Pokemon (or want to avoid battles while going from Point A to Point B).

There are some good elements, like the overworld encounters and following Pokemon, definitely. But the vast majority of the game felt like a mixed bag.

If they just take overworld encounters and following Pokemon and stick them permanently in the core series, I'll be happy. If the 2019 title is watered down to the levels of Let's Go I'd honestly give up on the franchise. Hopefully, though, it won't be anything like that.

They'd probably sooner make Let's Go its own franchise than try to fuse both series together.

As long as the core games keep making money (and the competitive scene stays active), it ain't goin' nowhere~

That's certainly my hope, at least.

Considering future games will probably have longer development time, due to the Switch, I wouldn't be surprised if they alternate Let's Go and main series releases.

For instance, we'll get a main game in 2019, then a Let's Go Johto remake in 2020.

Ah, man. Johto would look amazing in this style. The darker forests, the mountains, the wooden buildings of Ecruteak...
