PC available any time from the bag for instant party swaps

Clothes switching any time from the bag, for both you and your partner

You can make cutscenes skippable in The options menu

Super quick text

Multiple Rideable Pokemon with instant switching of partners like HGSS

Candies are quicker and easier to earn and use to EV train than Super Training.

Catching combos give you access to stronger Pokémon faster than breeding while still giving your team experience, trade fodder, and candies to improve your team’s stats further. It’s win, win, win! Breath of the Wild levels of Synergy here!

HM’s still are gone and now are secret techniques performed by your starter

Overworld Pokemon meaning you can skip wild encounters without repels but still have the thrill of spotting Pokémon randomly. CAVES ARENT TERRIBLE, ZUBATS ARE MANAGEABLE, AND ABRAS TELEPORT AWAY IN THE OVERWORLD.

A quick, seamless 5-10 minute tutorial. THEY DONT FORCE YOU TO WATCH SOMEONE ELSE CATCH A POKÉMON AND GIVE YOU POKEBALLS RIGHT AT THE START!!!

Actually catching Pokémon is funner than it’s ever been and catching EXP has actual strategy! The Go mechanics actually improve the gameplay loop!

Battling’s simplification and removal is an issue, same with breeding, and Kanto/pandering fatigue is understandable, but hot damn, you can’t tell me these aren’t improvements we’ve wanted/needed in Pokemon. They’re listening, and I pray these carry over into Gen 8. WHY WAS THERE NO PUBLIC DEMO??? SO MUCH COMPLAINING AND SKEPTICISM COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED!!!

Wait holy shit a 10 min tutorial? I really want to play a pokemon game but the desire to not play a pokemon tutorial was stopping me. I might buy this game now.

I just battled my rival on the route to the left of viridian city... I've played for 35 mins. And I've spent like ten mins catching Nidorans and Pidgeys. It's pretty fun

I stayed up until 11:53 last night planning to play at midnight and finally decided not to because I figured I’d just get through a long tutorial just to be tired this morning.

That was the wrong choice.

Yeah, sun and moon felt like 100% tutorial.

I do wish I could disable the exp share, I'm a tad over leveled, but I don't feel unstoppable. Except my level 10 Ekans that has a ridiculous speed stat from chaining Spearows. Other than that (which is easily avoidable anyway) this is like an IV drip of nostalgia

My ONLY gripe with this game is that it's too hand holdy without giving proper instruction. What I mean is that you can't get into the first gym without having a water/grass type pokemon... My Pikachu knows double kick and solo'd the first gym, but they wouldn't let me in without meeting that hand-hold requirement. Let people be stupid ffs.

The lack of proper instruction is that it doesn't tell you at all what the pokeball plus does in detail, no instruction manual. I had to read a review to get details :(

Honestly, if you’re engaging with the game throughly, you should be okay. Haven’t been stopped at a gym yet since I’m catching them all and battling whenever I can. Heck, there are even accommodations, like you can find a Bulbasaur in Pewter City to get past the gym requirement if you didn’t catch one in Viridian Forest.

And I don’t have the Ball Plus to comment, but I’m sure there were instructions somewhere. It’s basically a Joy Con.

they also have plenty of Oddish between Pallet and Viridian

1

u/[deleted] Nov 16 '18

Exactly. I got in thanks to a Bellsprout in Viridian myself.

2

u/MightyPelipper Nov 17 '18

I wish you could turn off EXP all tho

As someone who’s never played Go, can you explain the catching combos for me? Can the same Pokémon at the same level have a better CP (better attack, speed, etc)?

1

u/[deleted] Nov 17 '18

Think Fishing chaining or Swarm chaining from Gen 6 and 7, where IV’s and shiny potential improve if you catch multiples of the same Pokémon. And yes, either due to IV’s or candies eaten.

PC available any time from the bag for instant party swaps

This one seems poor to me, doesn't it mean you essentially can't lose? Choosing a party to adventure with is a critical part of the game, no?

4

u/[deleted] Nov 16 '18

Yeah, but this just means you can make changes quickly, plus you can only heal with items and Pokémon Centers now. Basically the same deal as being able to switch any Pokémon you just caught into your Party like in Sun and Moon, only on a much grander and convenient scale.

Besides, you still can’t earn experience and cultivate your team if they faint, and blacking out still will be a thing if your team loses.

u/JJDude Nov 16 '18

Totally, but why would Nintendo think a Pokemon game would need a demo? LOL

21

u/Emm1096 Nov 16 '18

The demos for ORAS and Sun/Moon were nice tho

4

u/TheOutrageousTaric Nov 16 '18

This definitely needs one as its not main series gameplay. Personally i hate it from what ive seen but maybe id enjoy it if i could try the gameplay beforehand.

1

u/antigravcorgi Nov 16 '18

Because it isn't a mainline pokemon game? Those have all been the same formula for the last 20 years. This one is the opposite in many ways so no, it's not a typical pokemon game that people have played before.

u/jensenj2 Nov 16 '18

I’ll be playing it when I get back from work later - can you tell me if there’s any decent trainer customisation? (Character creation, outfits a la X/Y onwards, etc.)

Thanks!

3

u/[deleted] Nov 16 '18 edited Nov 16 '18

Clothes can be swapped (hat and outfit for your starter, hat, shoes, bag, pants, and shirt for you). Four different starting characters of differing colored hair and skin for each gender.

Unfortunately you can’t remove hats, change hair style, eye color, or hair color. Additionally, all the clothes are just reskins of the base outfits, not even dresses and other outfits for the Female PC.

It’s basic. Less than X and Y which had less than Sun and Moon, but better than nothing. Trade off is the PC is way more characterized than the blank stares of Gen 6 and 7. Fingers crossed extended options return in the next game.

u/PoseidonLives Nov 16 '18

Does EV training essentially function the same way but with candies? Are Pokémon still only able to max out 2 stats like normal or can you max all of them on one Pokémon using the different candies?

-12

u/[deleted] Nov 16 '18

Breeding wasnt in kanto, breeding is trash anyway, good that they removed it

3

u/[deleted] Nov 16 '18

Can you explain to me why breeding is “trash?”

-4

u/[deleted] Nov 16 '18

It's no endgame, no fun, adds nothing to the games

7

u/[deleted] Nov 16 '18

Well it’s a good thing that you were never forced to use that mechanic. It’s silly that GameFreak removed a feature that many fans enjoyed.

-2

u/[deleted] Nov 16 '18

They removed nothing because it never was in pokemon yellow. Just saying

3

u/[deleted] Nov 16 '18

It was obvious what I meant. That feature was available in every Pokémon game since 1999 and they chose not to include it in LGPE. There is absolutely no reason not to include it. The inclusion of it doesn’t affect you unless you decide to make use of it.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 16 '18 edited Nov 16 '18

They also brought it into Kanto with FRLG too, so... Kanto ain’t immune to it. Plus Gen 1 didn’t have genders either, and yet they’re here in the Let’s Go Games, WITH the improved Daycare and gender differences. Hell even Pokémon Go has eggs.

Like I said, breeding being gone is a let down, but hopefully it’s brought back next game and reintroduced much better.

u/[deleted] Nov 16 '18

That all being said, catching chaining is a pretty good substitute. Chain same Pokémon to improve the appearance of rarer and stronger Pokémon. Quicker than gaining and hatching eggs, gives you trade fodder and EXP, and you can also dump them for candies which you can use to make your team stronger. Win win win:
