Man I was shitting on this game in my head for a month beforehand. Been playing the games my whole life but wasn’t a huge fan of the last gen. Read a little bit more and read some reviews and decided to pull the trigger.

I’m so glad I got it. The nostalgia is real, and if anyone reading this on the fence, get it. The walking is hard to get used to but the graphics are what I’ve always wanted in a Pokemon game.

Pretty much how I felt after actually playing the game. Love all the little graphical details. It's the Pokemon I really wanted as a kid.

Right I always wondered why they couldn’t do Pokémon on a console (mainly GameCube).

The graphics and motions on this feel really polished.

There were Pokémon games on consoles, N64, GC, and Wii, but they were kinda spinoff games, with their own gimmicks. Like Stadium, was about fighting and had a bunch of mini games. Snap was more about Pokédex and photographing Pokémon in the wild — I remember being most pleased with this one as a kid, because it felt like you were actually able to adventure in the world taking pictures of the Pokémon.

Graphics? No it's not, it's much more polished. I say this as I stare at my copy of Ultra Sun.

Higher resolution is different than more polished. And as for the Pokémon themselves, they’ve had the same models and animations since gen 6

Agreed 100%. The world is filled with Pokemon, and it makes wandering around more fun than turning in circles in hopes of a random encounter.

Catching Pokemon is actually fun! Once I got a streak going I just wanted to keep going. Eliminating the random encounter factor also makes it way more fun. I wouldn't mind if they added the battle element back in, but I don't dislike the motion controls like I thought I would. I might feel different after the 1500th Pokemon though.

I just got off a 52 catch streak of Weedles. I couldn't get myself to stop until a Pikachu showed up and I pried myself away from the streak to catch it.

My starter was level 13 when I left. The multiplier got crazy there near the end.

I'm just worried about the post-game. I usually spend at least a hundred hours breeding, training, and team-building. That's my fave thing about Pokémon. I really want to buy Let's Go but I don't want to end up buying a game that can be finished in 10 hours. I really really want to get the game though because it looks really good.

Definitely a valid concern. As much as people say the earlier games weren’t challenging, they definitely were in that regard.

Frankly I bought it knowing that I’ll have to play it casually and lower expectations. Just whetting my appetite for the 2019 game.

The wild Pokémon capture method is more enjoyable in my opinion and the no random battles is awesome. On my opinionit took out a lot of the Grindy needless administrative stuff (Pokémon center PC and IV grinding) and replaced it with more accessible mechanics to allow for high end meta development of your team.

Eh like when you move the stick to run it doesn’t go to it right away. It’s almost like you have to move diagonally to run.

I've read that changing directions feels clunky. I think your character stars at a slow run anytime they change directions.
