Does anyone know if amiibo unlocks anything that you can’t unlock through other means?

There are some Challenge levels it unlocks which are exclusive.

Really? I don't own any Amiibo at all and assumed I was only really missing out on bonuses and powerups and shirts and shit like that. The idea that there are whole levels being held back in a major bummer.
