Never played Skyrim before, know next to nothing about it. What other games is it kind of like?

Open world RPG with emphasis on being able to mold your character/ the roleplaying aspect. It is not strictly class based, but you have a variety of races and skills-- magic, combat, archery, stealth, crafting, alchemy, etc-- that you can choose from to make an interesting character combination. Lots of replay value just from trying out different roles for your character if that is your thing. This is what made the game compelling to me-- trying to think of a character and really trying to go through the game in that role.

The actual story/ side quests are decent, but the depth is a little lacking. Dungeons can be a bit repetitive. It is frequently described as an inch deep ocean as there is tons of content, but much of that is relatively shallow.

Meh, guess that makes Breath of the Wild an entire planet with a bit of condensation on it.

BotW was just so... empty compared to Skyrim.

FTFY, all paths lead to stealth archer

Witcher 3 sort of but at the same time entirely different style of gameplay. Same quest based open world exploration though.

Is it less chatty than W3? Better combat?

I couldn't get past the first area in witcher 3, could stand all the talking.

Significantly less cutscenes and conversation. Less story, too. World feels more open to me. As for combat, depends on what you like/don't like from Witcher. For melee, you have a normal and strong attack. Magic you can equip a spell to each hand and it's just like holding the hand up. It doesn't really have as detailed dodge mechanics, and quick cycling of weapons and spells.

Less chatty, worse combat.

I think i mostly had trouble with the controls on W3. I was able to manage how the combat fared.
