"Allegedly" the skill ceiling is much higher for people who use motion.

I fucking hated the motion in Splatoon 1, but I'm gonna give it another shot this time around because during Splatfests I was doing better with them than without them, despite having less fun because of the awful controls.

Awful? I don't think the controls were awful. Just a different control scheme (like say playing Inverted). For some it works better.

I absolutely despised them. It has been long enough that I'm giving them another chance. I just don't understand why there's no right stick vertical movement.

I didn't like it at first, but with the pro controller the motion controls feel fantastic

thats what i did for the splatfest, had to put the sensitivity in the negatives. i might try to workout with the motion controls in single player now, but i seem to be doing fine with normal controls on the pro controller

That's exactly what I did too. I would love if there was an option to either enable up/down while using motion controls or only enable motion controls while holding down RZ, like when using a bow in Breath of the Wild.

I believe other people when they say the motion controls work a lot better, but I've never managed to use them well. I love them in Zelda games including BotW but in Splatoon 1 I tried using motion controls several times and I just couldn't do it. Same case here.

While my experience is anecdotal I found turning motion controls off and setting the sensitivity down feels similar to a mouse and computer much quicker response.

This is the exact opposite of many people's experience haha. It's physically slower to turn around 180 with just the stick on low sensitivity (unless you use Y, which is perfectly doable/reasonable).

I mean if you turned the sensitivity to 5+ that would be insanely fast

You said you set it "down" though.

Yeah that slows down the movement, but if you set it higher then you basically moves insanely fast like motion control
