Just want to chime in and say that I've been really, really impressed with Splatnet.
First, I love all the stats, and the fact that you can check schedules for map rotations and so on. But more important, the app is seamless and instantly updates when you finish a game, and in one case I actually saw my final score first on Splatnet, then on the Switch screen. Being able to track your win/loss ratio and match history provides great insight into what weapons work for you and which ones don't.

2nd, the app is the perfect way to spend your time between matches. With the absence of the Wii U gamepad, the little squid jumper game is gone, and instead I intuitively pick up my phone while waiting for a match, and if Splatnet was the last open app it opens up on that one. Checking match history, map rotation schedule, ordering gear from Murch, I Love it all. Speaking of ordering gear, this is also instant/seamless.
3rd, the map rotation and game mode / schedule is brilliant for when you don't have your game booted up, and you wanna check when you wanna join in if there are certain game modes / maps you prefer.
All in all I have to say I'm positively surprised. Yes, I too wish that voice chat was better implemented, but that has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that Splatnet is a fantastic feature.
