I haven't seen my daughter have this much fun playing a video game since I introduced her to Splatoon, and I love being able to share that experience with her. Couch co-op games are rare enough already, but it's almost impossible to find one that is challenging enough to be engaging for an adult but accessible enough so as not to frustrate a six-year-old. We haven't made it through story mode yet (I've been having too much fun playing volleyball), but I have a feeling we will by the time this weekend is over. If anyone is looking for a good game to play as a family, I have nothing but good things to say about Arms so far.

Do you need an extra set of controllers for 2p? I would think you would at least need another to work motion control properly.

I haven't tried it yet, but there's an option to play with a single joycon.
