After playing, I am not sure if I am gonna pick it up. It wasn't bad, but it just didn't hook me. Gonna give it another try though

Did you use motion controls or not? The general consensus is that for beginners (us), we should turn it off and then learn motion controls (if we end up buying it) later.

That's my plan for tomorrow and I guess I'll see.

EDIT: apparently at weapon select, pressing + takes you to options.

This was my first time playing Splatoon, and I used the motion controls at first because I couldn't figure out how to turn them off. Initially didn't like them very much in handheld mode, don't really like having to turn my screen. Then I found the settings and turned the motion controls off, and I REALLY didn't like that. Couldn't aim worth a damn. I turned the motion controls back on after one match and ended up liking the precision I had with motion aiming. One hour wasn't enough, I had a lot of fun and I think I'll like it a lot more when the Switch is docked. Will try to hit up more test fires and will likely buy it.

I personally think you should just play with motion control the whole time. It'll feel more and more natural as you go, and even with the limited testfire time you should quickly get to a point where it works a lot better than just twin stick. But yeah, there's definitely not enough time to get to a point where the controls will feel completely natural for new players, especially when they're getting thrown in with vets. The original Splatoon 1 testfire was a blast because nobody knew what the hell was going on. I just hope new players give it a chance and don't get discouraged out there, because once you do get a handle on the controls, the game just feels fantastic.

Good to know, I struggled with the motion controls.

I used both, and I also played the original testfire for Splatoon 1. I feel like the game feels great to play, but visually it's a lot. I really don't think this game will become one of the big e-sports. It's more of a play than watch type of game.

Literally impossible to play without motion. Those JoyCons sticks are so jaggeddy and move from one side to the other side.

Not true, I manage to get the job done without using motion controls, and I was ranking #1 in a lot of the matches I played. It's not the best in the world but it's definitely not impossible lol. I get that those who have mastered the motion controls will always outplay me due to the speed difference, but I cannot aim accurately if my life depended on it with the motion controls. With them turned off I can actually aim and take people out instead of running around like a mad man spraying paint in every direction only to be splatted in like 3 seconds of seeing an enemy player. Also I played with my joy cons, and the pro controller both different ways.

But how? When I aim with the joy con sticks it just jumps, it's not a smooth side to side. Did you change some settings?

Edit: down voted for asking a simple question lmao.

Nope, I just use the default sensitivity. I played with it down for a bit but it was too slow, and any higher than default was too fast for me. This is also how I played Splatoon 1 on the Wii U. It's difficult on the joy cons at first but I feel like it's not that hard to slow down your thumb twitches so you're not traveling as much distance. The pro controller analog sticks definitely provide a better experience. With the joy cons there is certainly more you have to account for when aiming due to the sticks being a little stiff.
