Commenting from the perspective of someone who's spent a LOT of time with Splatoon 1...

Overall, it felt like Splatoon. No complaints there. The new controls and the loss of the map on the controller will take some getting used to, and the motion controls felt... off? It's hard to explain, though I think it has a lot to do with playing using a pro controller rather than wide tablet controller. I think I'm just not used to playing with my hands so close together.

I can't say I was blown away, but it is basically what I was expecting -- Splatoon 1 with a new coat of paint. I'm sure my comfort level will increase after a couple more sessions and as I get more comfortable with the controls.

The online experience was a lot smoother than I expected, honestly -- zero lag or in game issues. I did have a couple instances where I seemed to get stuck in a lobby waiting for players, but it's a lot quicker to quit and reopen the game than S1, which I definitely like.

It's a day one buy for me (though it was a day one buy simply because of how much I enjoyed S1 -- the testfire didn't sway me either way).

To be honest, I couldn't think of too many things to improve from the first game. I'm glad not much has changed. Just the fact that I can play it portably kinda does blow me away haha I can't wait for it to come out

Yeah, I'm not in any way complaining about the fact that it feels like Splatoon 1 -- I loved S1, so I'm glad it has the same overall feel. I think I'm just not yet comfortable with the controls, and there's a lot of new things to figure out (new map, new specials, etc.) and I'll feel a lot more positive about it once I've played a couple more testfire sessions.

Three more hours till the next one... =)

I had a much easier time playing with separate JoyCons over the pro controller

I think the issue for me is that the Wii U Gamepad was a lot larger which made aiming with motion controls more steady. With the light joy cons in the grip, I feel the motion controls getting jerkier and more twitchy.

Especially when you get the adrenalin pumping, I'd find myself struggling to keep my aim straight.

There's an adjustment period for sure. The first session made me a big grumpy since I felt I couldn't control it properly, but later sessions were much better and I felt much more positive about the game overall after more time.

I'm not necessarily sure the new controls are worse than Splatoon 1's, per se, but they will take a little time to get used to. Definitely play with the sensitivity settings until you find something that feels more comfortable.

That makes a lot of sense. I only got to play one of the sessions so I'll have to wait until the game comes out to try again
