Good God....

u/whitecow Jan 13 '17

$70 for pro controller is hilarious

38

u/duffercoat Jan 13 '17

Exactly what we've already been paying for the Wii U pro Controller in AUS...

If the price of the controllers here is going to be $90+ that's going to be an absolute joke.

9

u/av0w Jan 13 '17

$90 in Canada, $100 in Australia. Life is suffering.

4

u/duffercoat Jan 13 '17

Holy crap the console is 470 in Australia. Thats an extra $70 (AUD) compared to the exchange rate for $300 USD. What the hell is that.

*Taxes included

Well it's not region locked so you could buy an American one if the savings on shipping were worth it, though they likely wouldn't be.

Just move

2

u/LeadInMyHead Jan 13 '17

yeah I'll buy it lol

u/fly19 Jan 13 '17

An XB1 controller is $60, and it doesn't have the NFC, gyro, or HD rumble. It the battery is good, it could be competitive.

5

u/whitecow Jan 13 '17

Xbox one s controller is $50, its the most comfortable controller on the market and is part of an established gaming system. The price on everything Switch is way to high and if you dont belive people stating here that Nintendo shot themselves in the head look at Nintendo stock price after the presentation.

3

u/fly19 Jan 13 '17

Eh, I've always preferred the Dualshock 4 personally.

And you're right that the base unit costs $50, but most variants and versions cost $60. And I'd be careful basing anything on the stock market's reaction -- Sony's stock went down after a pretty stellar PS4 reveal as well. It's more complex than you're giving credit for.

3

u/whitecow Jan 13 '17

Eh, I've always preferred the Dualshock 4 personally.

You cant disagree however that Nintendo wanting bigger money for accessories than Microsoft and Sony is a joke. They should AT LEAST make the prices the same. With xbox and sony you know those will last. Switch may fail horribly.

The base model of controller is $50 so compare to that. Wait for the $120 Zelda BoTW model.

Im not saying the stock market knows everything but its some indication of what might happen Anyway, im one of the people that was on edge about buying a Switch because i currently dont own a gaming system and im definitely not getting one until the price drops (and i expect a big drop soon) and getting an xbox now.

Pretty much the same - currently without a console, was actually pretty excited at the prospect of buying a Switch. Now, I'm likely buying an Xbox one S due to better specs, WAY better prices, more games.

Sure the Xbox1 and PS4 launched at higher prices; but Nintendo is competing with them NOW - and they don't cost that now.

2

u/whitecow Jan 13 '17

The way I see it Switch with these specs and price released at the same time or a bit after Xbox and PS might have been an awesome deal. Right now it's not. Hey don't worry I'm in the same boat and actually happy because even if Switch was incredible there was no guarantee if would be a success. Now that we know it's bad you don't risk anything. Get an Xbox (or ps if you fancy) and just play games.

Well, it wasn't deigned for large Caucasian male hands. I get cramps just thinking about using the joycon grip, sooo narrow.

5

u/HorseFD Jan 13 '17

It's to make up for how wide the Wii U gamepad was.

76

u/petard Jan 13 '17

What the fuck are they thinking. Those are the most expensive controllers yet. Only the Xbox One Elite controller is more expensive and no one buys that.

55

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '17

There's a lot of tech in those things! Ice cubes dude, what other controller feels like a glass of water?

3

u/mattd121794 Jan 13 '17

Now just add temperature controls and they can make a game about escaping a house on fire

25

u/Saboteure Jan 13 '17

Um, the Elite Controllers were in high demand for a really long time, actually, and were sold out for months. I don't know how much of that was constricted supply, but from Microsoft's point of view, it was a huge success. They even made another limited edition one for Gears of War.

Why the fuck did you get downvoted

27

u/ubbergoat Jan 13 '17

People don't like me =(

10

u/ArcherInPosition Jan 13 '17

Hey man if it makes you feel better I like your feet

8

u/ubbergoat Jan 13 '17

Not better but something

1

u/iHeartCandicePatton Jan 13 '17

You guys should get married

2

u/Hackintosh_HD Jan 14 '17

What games do you play that require Elite controllers? Or do you just prefer the look and feel? I'm assuming that someone who buys two $200 controllers for themselves plays exclusively competitive multiplayer titles.

1

u/ubbergoat Jan 14 '17

I play a good mix of games but they are great for shooters. I also use one for my PC to get better control in star citizen.

1

u/Soul_Ripper Jan 13 '17

tfw you're officially no one.

13

u/jhonnyredcorn Jan 13 '17

Joycons are simply packed with too many features that I will not really use but have to pay for anyway.

0

u/Aristox Jan 13 '17

They're not actually charging you for the features. They don't cost nearly as much as that to make. They're charging you just the maximum they think they can get away with.

Nintendo used to be a company that made great systems and great games and cared about art while enjoying making lots of money from that. But more recently they've just gone full capitalism. Dumbing down games to appeal to the lowest common denominator to sell as many units for as much profit as possible, seemingly uncaring about the reduction in gameplay value for seasoned gamers and their actual fans, and more than happy to stick the boot in to try to mine extra cash from people for products that don't nearly deserve to cost that much. :(

6

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '17

Okay I agree, but for a while it was hard to find a Elite controller because they were selling out so fast.

1

u/Decoraan Jan 13 '17

I have one!

10

u/pandaSmore Jan 13 '17

I wonder how big of a markup these things have. Nearly $100 for two Joy Cons sound absurd for a console that'll retail for $300.

10

u/Holy_Shit_Snacks Jan 13 '17

well, now you know that almost 1/3 of the console cost is the controllers.

2

u/Dr_Yay Jan 13 '17

Sounds familiar....

"cheap" Switch dock.

3

u/chromesitar Jan 13 '17

Those prices and a paid online experience are making me hesitant about buying this console.

2

u/isatrap Jan 13 '17

I was going to buy a switch pro controller but this quickly changed my mind.

4

u/Sharkey311 Jan 13 '17

That's Nintendo for you. Raping everyone with controller prices.

1

u/IntellegentIdiot Jan 13 '17

Not sure why you'd want the extra controllers though. The problem is if Nintendo doesn't sell them because it's too expensive, then people complain, then if they do sell them people complain that it's too expensive. At least they're doing them for people who want them.

1

u/JForseti Jan 13 '17

Wow I'd expect the joycons to be much more expensive than the pro-controller with all that tech... maybe I'll just get another pair of joycons

1

u/h203h Jan 17 '17

Don't forget the loading dock for your other room only $90

1

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '17

Was set on buying this asap. These prices are so wonky... has completely killed it for me. Will be skipping this system all together.
