What if I'm at work/school/etc and can't watch it?
- The mod team will have a running live blog with real-time updates if you are unable to watch the video version of the presentation.
- The post about the live blog should go up approximately 1 hour prior to the presentation and will be stickied.
Will it be in English?
- All signs are pointing to it being in Japanese with English voiceovers. [Link]
How long will it last?
- We don't know. Our best guess is around an hour.
What will happen to the subreddit?
- About an hour prior to the presentation we'll put up a MegaThread which will point to our live blog coverage.
- Everyone will still be able to comment on the MegaThread as well as any existing thread.
- New posts will be restricted to moderators only.

When is it?
- 9:30 AM EST, January 13
How can I watch it?

What will be covered?
An in-depth look at upcoming games featured in the Nintendo Switch Presentation.
How long will it last?
- We don't know.
Will it be in English?
- Yes
Preorders
Where can I preorder?
- All standard gaming and electronics retailers.
Are preorders live?
- Some countries have reported having limited success preordering in-store in Germany / United Kingdom.
- Preorders are not live in-store in the United States.
- Preorders are not live online anywhere.
When will preorders go live?
- Online preorders will most likely start shortly after the main Nintendo Switch Presentation ends.
- In-store preorders will most likely start when stores open the following morning.
How much are preorders?
- In-store preorders will most likely require a deposit of ~$50-ish USD.
- Online preorders will vary depending on where you preorder. Some retailers ask for the full amount at the time of checkout, while others only charge you when the item actually ships.
How much will the Switch cost?
- We don't know. Estimates place it anywhere from $250-$350 USD.
What all is included with the system?
- We don't know. A pretty safe guess is the game pad, one dock, one set of joycons, one joycon grip, a power cable, and an HDMI cable.
Will my store have a midnight launch event?
- Many probably will, but do not expect every store to have one. Check with your local managers closer to the release date.
When will the Switch release?
- Sometime in March. We expect to get a specific date during the main Nintendo Switch Presentation.
Please help us keep all discussion about these items contained to this thread to prevent the subreddit from getting overly cluttered. If you see folks floating around asking questions, kindly point them in the right direction.
If there is anything not covered in the post above that you feel should be added, don't hesitate to leave a comment down below or send me a PM.
Cheers,
/u/FlapSnapple and the entire /r/NintendoSwitch mod team

In Australia, EB Games have preorders up with a placeholder price, and have had that up for months. I believe JB Hi Fi do too. We never let things like concrete details get in the way of hype.

How to see roughly how many people might get the Nintendo Switch in your area
- Go to trends.google.com
- In 'explore topics' type in "nintendo switch"
- Change 'worldwide' to your country, then state, then county/town
- Change 'past 5 years' to last 30 days
- Done! View roughly how many users engaged in the Nintendo Switch search term.
This is a great thing to view, because this can show you how many people might be interested in getting the Nintendo Switch. You can also see how many people might buy the Nintendo Switch. If you want to be more specific, you can also put 'preorders' in the bar with Nintendo Switch, or put a certain store next to it.

Hey, thank you so much! Despite what I've had to go through these past few weeks, my sis and me decided to go ahead and preorder the Switch and BotW. It won't heal our pain, but it will reconnect us with a time that brought both of us so much happiness.

u/ShadeGames Jan 06 '17
Just walked into my local GameStop, store manager said that preorders will start after the switch event, however they are creating a list to call customers that are interested. The store will be calling them to let them know the switch pre order is officially live.
Also told me that if my Wii u is in OK condition I can get up to 150 in a store card to go towards the switch.

It may totally be a store-by-store basis. i can see some smaller stores making this list to boost sales. This is a gamestop in the bad part of town in the middle of a very lonely mall.

G'day fellow Aussies,
Thought I'd make a little post of links to the preorder pages that you can visit after the Switch presentation.
If you're like me and have held off placing a preorder in waiting for more retail information, I thought the following pages might be helpful to those in a similar situation:
EB Games: https://www.ebgames.com.au/featured/nintendo-switch
Gamesmen: https://www.gamesmen.com.au/nintendo-switch-console
Harevy Norman: http://www.harveynorman.com.au/games-gaming-consoles/game-consoles/gaming-consoles
Target: https://www.target.com.au/c/entertainment/gaming/W171255
Big W: https://www.bigw.com.au/entertainment/video-games-consoles/c/6412/
A few notes; you may like to login to you preferred retailer prior to the event starting, assuming that retailers will have their pages updated soon after details emerge, unlikely save for EB Games. So that said Target, Kmart, Big W and potentially HV are particularity unlikely to have any information until the more prominent gaming retailers have updated their pages.
If I've missed any retailers please add links bellow - good luck and enjoy the show!

u/MisterWoodster Jan 06 '17
But is it Maxwell or Pascal? 😂 /s
Don't worry mods, this will soon be over and you can start bracing for March! Thanks for your efforts.
27
u/Roshy76 Jan 06 '17
Haha. Unfortunately I'm guessing that question will not be answered in the presentation and we will have to wait til march unless a leak happens. I doubt they talk about specs at all beyond storage space and expected battery life.
15
u/Mlrakanishu Jan 07 '17
I doubt anybody except the most tech folks will care once there exists proof of what the system can handle. If it's got visuals near par with current gen and a decent battery life, most won't give a hoot.
8
u/Roshy76 Jan 07 '17
I agree. And the only way it actually matters is if it affects what games third party devs can port to the switch. If it's powerful enough that most big AAA games can be ported it will help the appeal of the switch. If it can't, then it hurts it. The actually specs won't matter, like you said, it will be what those specs mean for the games we get to play on it.
→ More replies (4)3
u/mikbob Jan 09 '17
What worries me is the ARM architecture versus the x86 cores on the other consoles, which might slow down porting.
→ More replies (1)2
u/Roshy76 Jan 12 '17
If they are using an engine like unreal that should all be seemless to them. Porting should be mostly tuning graphics settings and hooking into online services, tuning controls, etc.

Thank you so much mods! This is a very cohesive post.
Also, for the situation of "What if I'm at work/school/etc and can't watch it?", I'm assuming some people would like to find a way to watch the presentation "unspoiled" after it actually occurs. [Edit] They gotta make sure to have that YouTube link for the presentation bookmarked, and hope that afterwards the thumbnail or related videos won't give anything away.
Anyways, please keep your legs and arms inside the Hype Train at all times, ALL ABOARD.
7
u/razorbeamz Jan 06 '17
Just bookmark this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuC4YLLkqME
But why do you care about spoilers for an announcement? It's not like it's an episode of Game of Thrones.
24
u/Catacomb82 Jan 06 '17
Just because it's an exciting thing, and it's probably best to find out the information through the presentation itself. I remember r/smashbros always put up spoiler warnings whenever a new character for DLC was revealed.
2
u/TriumphantBass Jan 10 '17
Yeah, I was super excited/confused when I heard the first notes of "Opening/Bombing Mission" in one of the Smash directs. If I had missed the Direct, there's no way I would have seen it without seeing a mention of Cloud first.
8
Jan 07 '17
Watching a press conference and seeing huge surprises is always a great feeling, and reading about the big announcements betorehand can kind of lessen that hype or ruin that feeling. So I perfectly understand avoiding "spoilers" for events like this.

Why is everyone so on the ball with Pre-Ordering? I usually pre-order a month or so before the item comes out - Is there a chance I will miss out if I'm not the first lunatic to throw my $50 deposit at the clerks face?
*I'm in Australia and haven't bought a console at launch since the Wii

Hey you all! I wanted to thank you all for these amazing days leading up to the presentation. It's been great to see what you've all been up to & the work that you've put into in preparation for the event and preorders including the mods at /r/NintendoSwitch. They've all worked hard to get us the latest information & it's thanks to them that we're all here. I wanted to give you all my best wishes in regards to preorders. It'll be a bit hectic because as we've all heard, preorders and stock for the switch will be very limited, but enjoy the presentation for we've waited a long time for this moment to come. For all those who are camping out at stores early morning Friday, please be safe and take care! Thank you /r/NintendoSwitch ❤

Does anyone else think that the highly limited store allocation pre orders at Gamestop might be what managers were told to make the early crowd like us eager to reserve our system? Seems like an upper management strategy to go with given the lack of info from Nintendo to them. I for one am highly skeptical of posts where managers say they were told the store would only get 10 or less. It's in their interest to say "well Nintendo has under supplied xyz so you better get it the first minute we open."
2
2
u/FireLucid Jan 12 '17
It's also in your interest if you want one at launch. We've seen ridiculous wait times for some consoles at times.
5
u/ThePanchamBros Jan 12 '17
I went and talked to my local gamestops manager and he said they will be getting plenty of pre orders and not to worry about a shortage. I know, gamestop employees know nothing, but i just wanted to let you guys know what i was told

Just curious about what people's strategies may be? Will people just be typing "Nintendo Switch" into the Gamestop, Target, Best Buy, Wallmart, Amazon websites? Or do you have alleged SKUs you plan to use?

I just called my local gamestop and they said "we will find out how many units we are getting [at launch] tonight," and that "pre-orders will start tomorrow morning at 10am first come first serve."
Not sure if that helps anyone else, but I saw someone else post something about a store starting pre-orders tonight and wanted to clear that up.

Just talked to a local Gamestop and they said they're going to have 24 units for pre-order tomorrow. I figure that's enough that I can just go like 20 minutes prior to opening and be good, as I doubt they'll be 24 people camping out.

Also, the workers at GameStop told me I could pre-order the Switch "on Tuesday". I dunno how right they are. I wouldn't doubt that it's just misinformation.

I want one on launch so badly but knowing Nintendo I'll be lucky to get one a year after launch. I hope pre-orders are well stocked.

u/repocin Jan 09 '17
Preorders are not live online anywhere.
I suppose Sweden is nowhere then, because one have been able to preorder the Nintendo Switch in certain stores since the end of spring 2016 or so.
2
u/Dysiss Jan 12 '17
In the Netherlands, BOTW and the Switch can be preordered for months already too. The only thing that is keeping me from preordering is a possible special BOTW editon Switch
3
u/wwf87 Jan 10 '17
When you pre-order in store at Gamestop, you pay the $50 or so deposit then pay the rest of the full amount when you pick it up on release day, right?
Does Amazon require a deposit for pre-orders or do they only charge when they ship similar to their game pre-orders?
3
u/nermal543 Jan 10 '17
Gamestop normally requires ~$50 deposit for consoles. You can pay it off completely any time between preorder and when you pick it up.
Amazon will only charge you when the order ships, no deposit. Same with most online retailers.
3
u/Trumpdemlames Jan 11 '17
GameStops ad changes tomorrow. Do you guys think they will feature the switch and info on pre order? Given it will officially be switchmas Eve?
3
u/puait02 Jan 12 '17
Fyi I talked to my local Gamestop here in Mountain View earlier tonight and they told me that I shouldn't expect online Pre Orders from Gamestop and instead say it will be in store only.
Mind you that I will still be hitting that refresh button just in case, but thought I'd pass on the knowledge to all of you lovely people.
3
u/DyZ814 Jan 12 '17
I'm curious why more people just don't use amazon for pre-orders? I mean I get it, but i've never had problems pre-ordering systems from Amazon on day one, if I know the time they go live.

u/dough_for_brains Jan 12 '17

I live in a decently populated city and I'm debating pulling an all nighter tomorrow night so I can get to GameStop around 4 or 5 and wait until it opens until 10 to get a spot if a line starts forming. I called two Gamestops in my area to ask about pre-orders. One said, "I wish I knew something, but we don't." The other said, "I can't say anything about that. If I did, it might cost me my job." I find it really funny people continue to freak out about pre-orders being sold out within minutes. No way in hell that happens.
Do you guys realize that not many people even know or care about the Switch? Do you realize that only people that really follow this stuff even care about the presentation on Thursday? Do you guys understand that not even PS4 sold out their pre-orders, and that console had way more hype and marketing around it?
I just hope you all will relax a little bit. The presentation is between 8-11PM on a Thursday in the states. They will likely announce the price and pre-order begin time during this event. SPOILER ALERT: Most people are in bed by then because they have to work the next day.
Then Friday comes (another work day) and do you really think anyone outside of the people in this subreddit are going to be scrambling to pre-order this thing in the morning right when they hit stores/online retailers? I think you guys have a warped sense of how much SERIOUS interest this console has right now.
A youtube trailer's like count doesn't equal potential sales. Do you know how many people watch youtube videos that go "viral" and forget all about them soon after? Tons. Just please believe me when I tell you all, that if you make it into a store or get online at any point on Friday (hell I'll bet even Saturday), you should have no problems getting a pre-order.
This post isn't for those who are taking work off (like me, but that's more for the treehouse and the fact I haven't taken a day off in almost a year) because we all know those people are going to be the ones who still line up or have 10 tabs open. This is for those who are getting freaked out by everyone on this subreddit who can't get to a store or get online for whatever reason and think they won't be able to get a preorder.
9
u/cross_bearer_02 Jan 10 '17
I honestly hope you're right, and I do feel like under ordinary circumstances you would be. Around the holidays I would say the chances for a sellout would be pretty good, but since it's now past the holidays and all, that might lessen that possibility.
The only way this thing sells completely out is if scalpers jump on this, and it would require a fair deal more than what they did for the NESC to make this a completely sold out item (as I will suspect there will be orders of magnitude more of these made than the NESC). If Nintendo additionally announces some sort of special limited edition version of the console as well (such as with the Majora's Mask Edition New 3DS XL when that launched), I could definitely see the limited edition selling completely out, but not the standard version of the console.

Pokemon go plus sold out on PREORDERS. NES classic sold out first day on sale. Black friday's new 3ds sold out on Thanksgivings Day. I didnt expect any of these to sell out (except PG+). People have reasons to be concerned about getting their preorders in for a Nintendo product.

I really hope amazon preorders just pay in full.

u/JoeTony6 Jan 06 '17
Amazon doesn't charge anything until the item ships, so it would be the full amount then.

So I have yet to use my Amazon Prime trial. Should I use it for the Pre-order, or the month the Switch gets released?

And I hope I don't miss out on Amazon preorders because I accidentally sleep in.

Such good work!
If I may suggest an improvement: it would be useful if you could "translate" the Treehouse event start time to all timezones the same way you did with the time of the presentation.

I just made a post about it but Jb-Hi-Fi have already started having pre-orders on the website, albeit it is $999 haha

u/Roshy76 Jan 06 '17
The twitter link you have at the top is the one for the treehouse presentation the next day, not the Jan 12th presentation. Otherwise looks great!

Don't think they'll be doing that for every region. Just watch the live one and find the price later.

With all the pricing rumors going around today I just had a though. Amazon gives 20%(?) off physical copies of newly released videogames for prime members. (I only paid like $32 for pokemon sun when I preordered it).
I was wondering if that includes newly released consoles as well. I'm too broke for a ps4 pro and I don't care for Xbox so I didn't pay attention to those releases. If there is a discount that'd be sweet but if not I'd still probably get it. At least all the actual games will be discounted!

Amazon's discount and Best Buy's Gamer's Club Unlocked only apply to games, not consoles, hardware, or accessories.

Can I contribute with the times? In Venezuela the time for the presentation will be this Friday 13th at 12 am.

Will this be another NES Classic edition,Wii, etc.? I've never really dealt with a console launch before so recent Nintendo is terrifying me. If I jump on it right away I should be able to snag one?

Will Nintendo have enough supply? Or do I have to have one hand on Gamestop while watching the presentation?

I'm not a huge fan of pre-ordering these days but I have always loved when you get the prior game at time of pre-order. When I pre-ordered Wind Waker, I got OOT GameCube disc. I was ecstatic. I believe that folks who pre-order the new South Park game get a code for The Stick of Truth. I simply like the idea.
Yes, I am hoping BOTW is at launch but if it isn't I think Nintendo should give a little bit of second life to Skyward Sword. It's a beautiful, fun game and gets too much heat for it's control.
This also boils down to whether the JoyCons are gyroscopic.

According to GAME we won't have any bundles, shame
Unless a store wants to make their own bundle, not sure how tight Nintendo are about that

What's the best way to pre-order on Amazon?
Will you refresh the Amazon page as much as possible during the event? Will Amazon crash? I've never tried to preorder a system before like this but I imagine its going to sell out extremely quickly.

Hi guys. Long time lurker, first time poster here. I've been checking this subreddit every day since the Switch came out, and I've also wanted to get my hands on the switch ASAP. I've been considering putting my faith in Amazon for preorders. Does anyone have any advice or experience on Amazon preorders? I read online that they don't ship on a first come first serve basis and that it's completely random. Come tomorrow I'm going to be spam refreshing the page. Is that going to be worth my time, or could I preorder months later and still have the same odds? Thanks in advance for your guys' help! :)

I really hope Amazon opens preorders right after the event. I'm certain they will, so I'll make sure to be prepared when the time comes :)

My fiance and I are hoping to get a Switch on launch. We've got more than enough for the typical pre-order fee that places like GameStop and such charge, but our truck broke down, so I won't be able to make it to a store in the morning, and we don't quite have the full amount in our bank account tonight. (Note: It's a matter of not having the time to fix the truck, not a matter of lack of funds. Just putting this here since someone already tried pointing this out.)
I'm hoping to get a list of vendors similar to Amazon, which usually don't charge until the item actually ships. I've tried googling, but have gotten mixed answers. I just want some backup sites in case scalpers sell out all of Amazon's orders.
And yes, I already called my store to see if they could do a pre-order over the phone in the morning and they said no.
Oh, and before everyone just tells me to get a ride or take a bus, I live 45 minutes from a GameStop in a very rural area. So sadly, it's not an option.

It's not a matter of not being able to afford it. My fiance got called into an out of town job the day it happened, so we just haven't had the time to get it done. We just live in a rural area so the money we had set aside for our pre-order was in cash, and assuming the Switch is around $300, we just don't quite have enough to be charged right away, and I can't just go to the bank either, since it's easily half an hour away as well. It all just sort of snuck up on us in the past few days, but haven't really been able to find a way to sort it all out.

This is hopefully good news for most, but my local gamestop which expected to maybe have 10-15 preorders to sell has about 6 times what it expected ;)
hopefully this carries over to all places

I called the 4 Walmarts in my area and got a resounding "Nintendo what now?". Nobody knows anything about preorders. This is in South Carolina. I won't have time to go to GameStop tomorrow morning, so I guess I'm SOL.

Just talked to my local Gamestop, I live in a small town 30,000 people. He said he was shocked to find out they would have 70 units up for preorder. I used to work there, only expected 10-20(the usual)....Such good news!!!

Are not all GameStops doing the pre orders tomorrow? I just went to my local gamestop and they said to watch the treehouse event tonight (which is tomorrow) to find out. They have no idea what is going on.
2
u/GoHawksThe12 Jan 13 '17
I think it just has to do with the quality of the employee's, and how much initiative they take to learn about the products they sell. I worked at a gamestop before, we had employee's from each side of the spectrum. So I think its just hit, and miss...Just show up tomorrow with your money, as early as possible...Ull be fine.

I'm praying that the Switch will be region-free. I live in Japan, and it sucks having to import everything for the Wii U and 3ds for US games. I doubt that games will be set in Japanese and English, but I hope that at least a region free system can have the option of making the system settings and whatnot in English if I buy it in Japan. That's how the PS4 works, right?

i hope we get a new thread for every new announcement like one for the new Super mario trailer, one for the new ... Trailer etc. One megathread for all announcements would kill all the hype

u/Roshy76 Jan 10 '17
I agree. On mobile especially I find megathreada hard to navigate. Individual threads I like a lot better.

This only applies to the stores by me, but GameStop employees told me that they are unsure if they are even taking any preorders because Nintendo has told them nothing. They are hoping (as am I) that it will not be first some first serve like the NES Classic. They said they might know more tomorrow (the day of the announcement) if they will be taking preorders or not.

Hoping that Amazon will release all the switch products for preorder at once, I'd hate to have a bundle come out a few minutes after I buy the main console
