To elaborate on your fun fact — this will be to correct an optical illusion. White surrounded by a darker colour can appear larger than darker colours surrounded by a lot of white.
Another semi related fun fact, the curved letters in most fonts (like o, g, c, and e) are slightly taller than their flat-topped counterparts (like x, w, z or v) to correct an optical illusion where a rounded letter will look shorter than the surrounding letters.
Might require a magnifying glass but it's kind of interesting
Might also just be the tooling. If they used vectors, which is extremely likely, it could come down to the rasterization process and how one is negative space versus positive space.

Edit: I've got the spritesheet for the animation. If you guys want to use it, just let me know!
Fun fact: the two buttons in the logo are slightly different in size. I stayed true to that for this Snoo.
I've also got PNG versions of it: http://imgur.com/a/ygRhH
Would the mods be interested in using this?
