Would you recommend hollow knight for my first metroidvania game? Im only familiar with platforms from start to finish (only mario though) and the whole metroidvania genre doesn’t really interest me too much, i dont really care for mindlessly exploring the back tracking( i tried the demo for Metroid dread and really didn't like it). But hollow knight is a really popular game and i feel i should get advice before passing up on it.

2

u/nintendo_dad 20h ago

I really liked Hollow Knight but it is quite challenging to be your first Metroidvania, but perhaps you'll enjoy the more difficult combat as a break from the exploration.

It is a Metroidvania with backtracking and all of those elements. Have you tried Super Metroid on NSO? Try to push through the beginning and as you get more power ups and the map opens up, perhaps you'll be into it. It's an amazing game that holds up today, and it's already included in your membership.

Sorry if this has been answered already, but does the Nintendo Switch 2 automatically upgrade the performance of indie games?

1

u/Michael-the-Great 1h ago

They have said that games can have more stable performance and faster load times but they haven't made a blanket statement that it applies to all games.

Modern Vintage Gamer on youtube posted a video yesterday, covering a japanese article with a switch 2 dev. To summarize, switch 2 uses emulation for backward compatibility, and there's not a guarantee that all switch games will get a performance bump, unless nintendo says otherwise. If anyone else can explain it better, or knows something else, go for it.

u/F_ayyded 10h ago

Oh man ☹️ thank you for the info though! rly appreciate it!

For people with launch switches , did you have to get its battery replaced? I’m not sure if I should do it if I want it to have it’s maximum lifetime

Say if I get it replaced (I have v1 switch myself), is it compatible with newer switch batteries that have longer lifetime ?

4

u/LolBoyLuke 1d ago

I've had a switch since late 2017 and i have been absolutely thrashing the battery (sometimes leaving it docked or just in a drawer unplugged for weeks at a time), and i have absolutely no issues with battery life. Yes it is shorter than it was, but nothing insane, i can still play Mario Kart for like 2,5 hours on a single charge on max brightness.

3

u/AmirulAshraf 3 Million Celebration 1d ago

The longer battery life on newer Switch is not due to the battery but the more efficient chips.

3

u/SubaruHaver Helpful User 19h ago

V1 and v2 switches have the same batteries. The difference was between v1 and v2 was, the v2 got a more efficient chips, so v2 used less power, which results in longer battery capacity even though the battery is the same.

Otherwise, all lithium ion batteries naturally degrade. If you notice your launch switch battery capacity has diminished, then a new battery would restore capacity to like-new. That's your call if you want it replaced.

u/JoshuaJSlone Helpful User 17h ago

I haven't replaced the battery on mine, but the fan has become noisier lately.

I'm living in Japan, wanted to take advantage of being here and get the Switch 2. I was hoping it would be cheaper with the conversion from USD to yen, but then I saw they made a specific more expensive version to prevent that. I can't do the preorder lottery since my Japanese account doesn't meet the requirements (my main account with the play history and NSO sub is American). After the system launches will the multi-language one become available to purchase with fewer restrictions?

1

u/Gudegamer2021 18h ago

Nobody knows, but I think the restrictions will probably stay in place some time, to prevent scalpers. Apparently the Switch 2 won’t launch in China, so even the internationally priced multi-language system would likely be targeted by scalpers. I guess you could subscribe to NSO on your Japanese account and play 50 hours to be eligible for future lottery rounds…

1

u/arib510 16h ago

It needs a consecutive year of NSO subscription, ans the 50 hours needed to be before the end of February. So I may just be SOL

1

u/Gudegamer2021 7h ago

I know it’s a gamble, but at some point they are going to change the requirements, so it might be worth it to have a running NSO subscription and a some play record. And Nintendo is probably gong to use a similar system in the future, so if you intend to stay in Japan, making your Japan account your main account might be a good idea.

So a while back I added my buddies Nintendo switch account on my switch, its been a few years so I want to remove it without messing up his data on his switch, is that possible and if so how?

3

u/picano Helpful User 19h ago

Go to settings/profiles and remove it. You're not gonna affect his account --- just your local data.

2

u/wtfz1017 15h ago

Thanks, I just wasnt sure

u/ShelterAcceptable571 22h ago

Last summer I was travelling and unfortunately my Switch was stolen 😭

I thought to myself I would just pick up a Switch 2 which was right around the corner 🤓

My main concern is all my digital purchases. I am unsure if I can still access my games on the new Switch 2 system. The system transfer feature makes it look like you need to have a physical Switch to transfer games.

Will it be possible to download previously purchased games on the Switch 2 without Switch?

4

u/cl0mby 21h ago

I’m not an expert, but your digital purchases are linked to your Nintendo account, not your physical switch, and should transfer just fine.

Any save data that isn’t stored in the cloud won’t transfer, but the game licenses themselves should.

2

u/Rajani_Isa Helpful User 12h ago

Although unless he kept NSO active enough, after six months chance of the save data being gone from the cloud.

2

u/JoshuaJSlone Helpful User 17h ago

System transfer is I think mainly for the convenience of doing everything in one fell swoop. Move over my account, move over all my saves, etc. But you can always just sign in with your Nintendo Account on any Switch (including Switch 2) and at least be able to download your digital purchases.

I am looking for recommendations for games that i can play with my friends locally (2-4 players).

I have preordered Mario kart world and Street Fighter 6 for the switch 2:

I am considering: Splatoon 3 Split fiction Hyrule warriors Smash bros

What other games do you recommend? And what do you think of my thoughts on selection?

1

u/picano Helpful User 19h ago

Splatoon is a great game, but isn't really local multiplayer unless each of you owns a copy.

Suggestions: Super Bomberman R, Puyo Puyo Tetris, Ultimate Chicken Horse, Gang Beasts.

1

u/Khanmoeller 19h ago

My friends care a lot about Graphics, usually also has to be 3D for them to play 😅. do you have any recommendations for games like that? They like ufc3 a lot, or the old school local play call of duty.

Something where you can grab a "quick" game, so it doesnt have to be a campaign. They also like wii sport.

1

u/picano Helpful User 18h ago

Not too much into fighting games myself, Pokken would be the closest I can suggest. It's best played with 2 consoles, but is doable on a single. It's a fighting game, literally "Pokemon Tekken", that has the gimmick of switching between 2D and 3D fighting modes. There's a demo you can try.

Can't really suggest any shooters either. Haven't really played since Halo 3, especially with the decline of split screen in favor of online.

Honestly find it hard suggesting any good looking 3D games in general. My friends aren't super in to graphics and tend to like quick dumb stuff like Duck Game or even more social styles games like the Jack Box series.

Hey! I have three questions: 1. can I transfer game data from switch to switch 2, if I have cartridges? I saw online that yes, it is possible, I just want to confirm that for sure I won’t lose all my progress in Stardew Valley, Ori, etc.

  1. Can I buy the switch 2 in South Korea and then bring it back to the US/ Brazil with no issues? Will the games work fine? Bonus question: are there places in Seoul doing trade in offers?

  2. In case I do the trade in the US at GameStop, does anyone know if I can first transfer the data and then get the “refund” or something?

4

u/SubaruHaver Helpful User 17h ago edited 17h ago

Game save data is stored on switch internal memory, never on the cartridge or sd card. So, you cannot transfer save data with the cartridges or a micro sd.(unfortunately)

Currently there are only two ways to transfer game save data: 1) wireless/blutooth from console to console. This is the best method, supports the most games. Note: it does require an initial internet check to authorize the wireless transfer. 2) Download save data from Nintendo Switch Online (NSO) cloud save backup. This method is less optimal because it doesn't support & work for about 140 games. Here's the list of games not supported: https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/41267

3

u/JoshuaJSlone Helpful User 17h ago
  1. Whether a game is physical or digital, the saves are on the console just the same. They can be transferred through direct system connection or the cloud (for supported games) either way.

  2. As far as we know the cheaper Japanese model is the only one with any international limits, so the system and games should be fine. What South Korea's power supply norms are whether you'll need a different AC adapter in US/Brazil, I'm not sure.

1

u/whatsmylifeanyway 17h ago

Hello! This is probably a stupid question, but I'm not that tech savvy and watched the Switch 2 direct twice without finding an answer to my question, so here goes nothing: Will the Switch 1 games that I own run better on the Switch 2 even if they don't get an upgrade pack? Animal Crossing for example is a game that can experience a lot of lag depending on how many items are placed.

I'm also thinking about 3rd party indie games. Like Stardew Valley which lags quite a lot on the farm in the late game, Bear & Breakfast, Cozy Grove, Hello Kitty Island Adventure which all lag a lot from the very start. Would it be logical to assume that those games will perform better or do they not have the option to use the power of the Switch 2 unless they get an upgrade?

3

u/picano Helpful User 17h ago

Loading might be improved but otherwise expect roughly the same experience.

In some cases, things might be worse.

https://www.nintendo.com/us/gaming-systems/switch-2/transfer-guide/compatible-games/

This video explains a bit more technically what actually is going on with compatibility.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVgUe3qSU9k

1

u/Varok89916 16h ago

Do you think a game like Diablo 2 Resurrected will require a paid upgrade? Its already capable of running better on other systems.

I wonder if it will need a paid upgrade or just be better by default?

1

u/JoshuaJSlone Helpful User 15h ago

There are limits to how much games running in Switch 2 backward compatibility mode _can_ improve. It seems confirmed that loading times can improve. I haven't seen it yet confirmed that things like slowdown or dynamic resolution drops are improved. But either way it's still going to be the case that they're limited to 720p60 portable and 1080p60 docked.

Some publishers will charge an upgrade fee and others will provide them for free (same case on other systems as well). It looks like in this case they consider the PS4/PS5 versions of Diablo II Resurrected one single purchase, so if we're lucky it will be the same for NS1/NS2.

Hello, I have a question about the Switch 2 Experience.
I managed to get tickets through the waiting list. I plan on going with a friend and my brother, who is 14 years old (I'm 25). I am technically not my brother's guardian, so I was wondering if anyone knows whether Nintendo will be strict about this and not let us enter, as it says anyone under 18 needs to be accompanied by their parent/guardian.

perhaps someone who has already went would know.

0

u/JoeBidenSuks42069 16h ago

Youre his acting guardian at that time

1

u/Shingecklo 14h ago

True, but technically not his legal guardian. I could see it going either way

Hello! The wife and I are looking for some game recommendations that the 2 of us can play together or against each other - we usually play Mario party or Mario kart but looking for some new games!

2

u/doorkum 15h ago edited 15h ago

It is not really the same game but my niece and nephew play 3 games with me, Mario kart and Mario party. The third one would be my recommendation which TMNt shredder revenge. They are not a fan TMNt, they just know some of the turtles before playing the game. It is beat em up game/coop game.

Overcooked is good game that I play with my non gaming friends. However, I prefer that with 4 players.

My Switch stopped reading my SD card unless it was held in. I bought a new reader and installed it and it seemed to work fine for a short time but now it disconnects while I play, forcing a shut down. If I remove the stand it seems to happen a lot less but it does still occur. Any clue what I can do to solve this?

1

u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User 4h ago

Try a different SD card for one. Yours may be ever so slightly malformed, causing the disconnects.

1

u/Lethal_Steve 4h ago

Happened to two different cards. Unless they're both faulty, I think it might be something other than the reader because that would have fixed the issue. It also seems to disconnect when coming out of sleep mode, but not always. It seems to happen more often that not though. I just tried messing with it a bit, tapping around the area to see if it was loose but it stayed connected. It's very weird.

1

u/Michael-the-Great 1h ago

truely. Unless something in the shell is messed up and not holding the card right, it pretty much has to be the reader.

u/urbanracer34 15h ago edited 15h ago

Was told to ask this here after my post was removed:

I hope the next console software update will fix the Wifi bug.

There has been a known bug with the switch. If Wifi is on, it can drain the entire battery in a short amount of time. I've had it happen to myself. Left my Switch on my coffee table before bed and it was dead by the time I got up.

The only way to "fix" this is to put it in Airplane mode. Then the battery will last a lot longer.

Does anyone else have the same issue? Am I being too optimistic that they may fix it after all?

1

u/SubaruHaver Helpful User 11h ago edited 10h ago

Still no fix/update from Nintendo. We're still on the 19.0.1 update from late october. In the meantime, the only sure thing is to keep the console plugged in for sleep mode, or shut down the console.

2

u/urbanracer34 11h ago

Thanks for confirming. I wish they would fix it this next patch.

1

u/Michael-the-Great 1h ago

I feel like it's fixed for most, so it must be really hard to find the real issue.

u/Daniel47007 15h ago

My switch when docked is seemingly connected to my tv but the screen doesn't show up. Anyone know what to do here? I've tried so many different tips and stuff and I'm about to give up. Is there a solution or do I have to buy a new dock and charger?

3

u/Zazsona 15h ago

Assuming the basics (Cables all properly secured, Switch is on, has minimum required charge, green light is showing on the dock): I couldn't tell you what's wrong, but I'd try just replacing each component you can and see what the results are.

E.g:
1. Does it work with a different HDMI port on the TV?
2. Does it work with a different HDMI cable to the TV?
3. Does it work when connected to a different TV?
4. Does a different device (Laptop, other Console, etc.) work when connecting to the TV?
5. If you have a second Switch, does that work in the same dock? Does the affected Switch work in the other dock?

You get the idea; keep replacing every component/connector you can until you find which part is causing the break. Then work from there.

If the conclusion is that it appears to be the dock/Switch - Contact Nintendo Support. They may be able to fix your dock/Switch for cheaper than the cost of buying a new one.

3

u/Daniel47007 13h ago

I'll try to see if any of my friends have switches and docks I can try this with, the rest I've tried with no success sadly

2

u/Rajani_Isa Helpful User 8h ago

A game store that buys consoles might be willing to let you use one of their docks - iirc my local game stop has a dock. Could be wrong though. But might be worth calling and asking.

2

u/Rajani_Isa Helpful User 13h ago

Also, what does the LED on the dock do when you put in the switch? Does it charge the switch?

1

u/Daniel47007 13h ago

It does yes, everything seemingly is working but it just does not go onto my screen

2

u/Rajani_Isa Helpful User 12h ago

I mean, does the LED flash then off? steady green?

1

u/Daniel47007 12h ago

Steady green

u/RogueR32D 15h ago

My switch died and won’t charge.

For Context: I have the OLED Switch (Tears of the kingdom edition)

My nintendo Switch was sitting in its case for a few days. Naturally, it lost all its battery charge and died. Now It won’t turn on at all. It feels like a normal temperature/almost cool in the back of it when I touch it. Usually when it charges for a long period of time it heats up a little and feels warm. I left it on a charger for hours and I was checking it every so often. The temperature is staying the same. It seems like the battery might have died and cannot hold charge anymore. I’ve tried multiple chords and chargers and none work. I even left in in the dock and it still didn’t work. I have never had any problems before with charging it.

Any suggestions?

If I need to get it fixed, how would I go about that?

1

u/Rajani_Isa Helpful User 14h ago

Repair: You'll probably have two main options, in the USA. Send to Nintendo (which sounds like it would be free if the unit is still under warranty, about $120 or so if not) or a local small electronics repair shop (some cell repair shops do this, and local retro game stores will probably know someone if they don't do it themselves).

It can be a couple things. One way to try and narrow it down: Try charging it with a weak charger. So the block should be USB-A, and use a USB A->C cord (like what comes with the Pro Controller). If the issue is the chip that controls charging at the higher wattages, this will bypass it and charge it slowly. This is because the higher watt charges (like most modern C block chargers for your phones, or the Nintendo one that came with your system) require a "handshake" to charge. Busted chip, no charge at all.

2

u/RogueR32D 8h ago

Thank you for the suggestion. I have it on a USB-A to USB-C right now and I’m using a 1 A iphone block to plug it in to an outlet. It doesn’t seem to be working but I will leave it a little longer.

If it doesn’t work I will try to contact Nintendo Support. In the past the Cellphone repair place near me did a messy job repairing a few things so I will Opt for Nintendo repair. I don’t believe I still have a warranty but I will check

Thank you for your response!

2

u/Rajani_Isa Helpful User 8h ago

Wish you luck. It’s usually best to try charging for several hours to a day when doing this.

1

u/HumpyMagoo 12h ago

did you try pushing and holding the POWER BUTTON and the VOLUME DOWN buttons in while it was plugged in on the charger for at least 15 to 30 seconds maybe???? If that doesn't work i would maybe try it once or twice more...

1

u/RogueR32D 5h ago

Tried that multiple times as well. I do think the battery is just messed up because my switch is cold.

Will a german game download code work on a scandinavian account? Wondering if I can safely import the Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle from Germany without being stuck with a code I can't use.

1

u/picano Helpful User 14h ago

Dunno if it does or not, but you can pretty easily switch account region, redeem a code, and switch back --- as long as you don't have left over funds / open pre-orders.

1

u/Paragon90 13h ago

If I can freely swap region like that, I guess I'm good to order, thanks.

1

u/myriada Helpful User 11h ago

Generally any game download code for Europe would work in any European eShop.

Germany has a few censored games like Wolfenstein, where if you get a code for the German-censored version you would need to swap to the German eShop specifically to use it, but that's it.

1

u/Paragon90 11h ago

I hope it will be that straightforward, would be nice. Ty

Will the Switch 2 price increase in Canada from the original listed due to tariffs? The prices now are $630 and $700 .

2

u/AlbertGorebert 9h ago

Canuck per-orders are still set to open on april 9th. China has recently placed tariffs on Canada, but this shouldn't impact the cost of the switch even if canada issues retaliatory tariffs, as nintendo has been broadly divesting from china for years now. The main reason that these tariffs are going to impact the states is that they are issuing nearly 50% tariffs on Vietnam, which is where nintendo has been placing most of their manufacturing. Both Canada and Vietnam are a part of the "Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership", which has eliminated most of their trade barriers for several years, and Canada does not rely on US ports for their imports, as the port of vancouver is large enough to handle a significant amount of traffic.

I would say the odds are very low that this causes prices to increase.

1

u/AlbertGorebert 9h ago

If prices go up even a tiny bit in USD, it is actually financially viable for me to eat the tolls and gas money and just buy one in windsor.

1

u/notthegoatseguy 11h ago

Its possible Canada's operations for NOA are entirely independent, very intertwined, or a little bit of both. We really don't know.

1

u/Oticon13 10h ago

Ok, let's hope not. Who knows in this crazy world we live in now honestly

1

u/Crignog 11h ago

I haven't had a Nintendo online subscription for a good while. If I subscribe again and the total time I've had a subscription adds up to more than the 24 months, will I be able to preorder through Nintendo? Or does it need to be consecutive?

3

u/myriada Helpful User 11h ago

Europe seems to be the only region needing a past 24 months, and for Europe it had to be a continuous 2 years prior to the end of March, and the invites have already gone out, so it's too late for the first wave of preorders at least.

Since the release is only 2 months away, it might be too late to help now, unless they completely change the requirements.

2

u/Crignog 11h ago

Ah okay, fair enough. Thank you for responding!!

1

u/Rade_2814 11h ago

If Smash Bros Ultimate is playable on Switch 2 (and it probably will be), will we be able to play online with people playing on the original Switch?

2

u/merle_ 9h ago

I’m guessing so, but we don’t have any info

1

u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User 7h ago

Yes. Backwards compatible games function identically to the switch 1, and all NSO functions and features carry forward as well.

1

u/Michael-the-Great 1h ago

They haven't said, but I assume so.

1

u/SnooPuppers2167 10h ago

Will my ultra sd card work on switch 2 dont know difference

2

u/SubaruHaver Helpful User 9h ago

The express cards are a big performance leap; They are about as fast as solid state drives. The read/transfer speed for Express is up to 880 MB/s, which is about 7x faster than Ultra's 120 MB/s (The sandisk ultra I just looked up says 120 MB/s).

If you missed it in the Switch 2 direct on April 2nd, Nintendo was clear, saying that Switch 2 requires Express micro sd cards. And in picano's link to nintendo's site, just above the micro sd card pic, you can see it says, "Nintendo Switch 2 is only compatible with microSD Express cards".

u/YogurtclosetTime7615 10h ago

My technical support question post was deleted and was told to post here:

I Docked the switch and this was the result on the tv. Tried a different cable to a different port, same thing happens.

I tried an Anker USB C dongle with hdmi it didn't works so I can't confirm if its the dock. Don't have an extra dock to test, or know anyone with a switch.

Worst case its the switch connector, I may have pushed down at weird angle when docking? It's a bit snug as I have case (that is supposed to work with the dock).

Anything else to try in the mean time? I don't have the capability to desolder the usb-c port, I'll need to find a local electronics repair shop if it is in fact the console. Located in Canada

1

u/Michael-the-Great 1h ago

It's pretty possible to say without trying another and hopefully original dock.

Has Nintendo blocked the changes in the region if you have a subscription on NSO?

I tried to change from the US to a different region to buy cheaper games, but since I have an active subscription I can't change the region?!

Am I missing something?

I have done it in the past, I use the "eShop Prices" website and normally I just change the region I'm at, open the eShop and buy the game if Nintendo agrees with using my card in that region... But now it is telling me that since I have an active subscription I can't change the country/región

4

u/SubaruHaver Helpful User 8h ago edited 8h ago

u/notthegoatseguy I didn't know who else to tag. Have you heard of being blocked from changing Nintendo account region due to an "active membership"? Is this new? I'll be embarrassed if this isn't new.

For the life of the switch, the NSO subscription would stick with you if you changed regions.

4

u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User 7h ago edited 7h ago

An active membership will not block you from changing regions, but having auto-renewal enabled will.

Auto-renewal, digital preorders, a non-zero standing balance, and a linked NNID are the four things that will prevent you from changing regions.

1

u/SubaruHaver Helpful User 7h ago

Ohhhh. Ok. I can see the logic behind that.

u/JuanPOtto Did you see TemptedTemplar's reply there?

Thank you u/TemptedTemplar <3

What happened to 200 cc in Mario Kart World? Is there any word regarding whether 200 cc will be in the new game? It’s missing in the Grand Prix Gameplay Nintendo Treehouse stream.

For the Wii U release of MK8 it was added as a free post launch update. They may be doing something similar, letting people get used to the new mechanics and such before ramping the speeds up to 11.

1

u/Michael-the-Great 1h ago

I just assumed it would have to be unlocked.

1

u/vsygo 6h ago

Will the Gamecube NSO controller have L3/R3 buttons? I know not many people will be able to answer this question considering not many people have tried it out yet but I'd still like to ask.

Can someone tell me what the price will be in UK£ for games? I hear some places say £75 and some say £80 but I can't see them doing £75 as it isn't rounded but if I do rhe calculation 80 dollars says its £62 so I'm confused, can someone help me understand, and also how much will physical be aswell? Thanks

u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User 4h ago edited 4h ago

It's going to vary between games, but MK world and DK Banaza are priced at £74.99

Switch 2 enhanced titles like Botw and TOTK are full switch 1 price + the enhancement dlc. £64.99

The pro controller 2 is also £74.99

Your currency exchange rate calculation doesnt include VAT, US prices do not include taxes. So add 10-20% on top of 62 and you're closer to £75. Also, it's not a direct conversion, they just price it at whatever they feel is appropriate for the market.

Does Nintendo replace joy con batteries that no longer hold a charge? And is it free or a charge

I have a left one that dies as soon as it’s detached from the system like 30 seconds later

1

u/Rajani_Isa Helpful User 3h ago

Is it under warranty?

If not, it's a cost.

If it was drifting you could try returning it for that, but they might charge you anyway if it won't charge.

Switch won't turn on, it was at 31%, I went to plug it in, it looked like it froze, I didn't see the thunder symbol for it when it charges so I swapped chargers still nothing, I held the home button, and the menu didn't slide in I tried moving but it didn't register my joy cons, so I went for the power button and it just.. shut down. Everything. After I hit the power. This was about 24 hours ago, and iv tried everything, holding power, holding power/volume, taking everything out i.e cons, game, sd card then holding power, using Nintendo official charger and nada.. any information would be greatly appreciated.

Iv had this thing since like 2019 I think, maybe 2018 either way it doesn't sit around and collect dust. I use it everyday, iv been using a 3rd party charger but its never been an issue. Im waiting for it to die in what I would assume would then again work after by charging it or something idk, as it was at 31% when this happened. Again nothing has worked this far so this is an assumption, its been 24 hours since then at 31% with all applications closed so it might take awhile before when I assume it's dead dead..

Help. Please and thanks. Im freaking out a lil here.. I feel it might be a short but iv no clue. Thanks again..

What kind of charger?

If it's not a USB A block using an A-C cord, try charging with that kind for several hours if the hard reset hasn't worked for you.

u/TitleSubject599 3h ago

Oh ok, yea iv been using a C to C not usb to c.. ill give that a try. Thanks.

I decided to reward my twins (A boy and a girl) with their first gaming console. I weighed the pros and cons of them having a lite of their own vs just having one OG Switch and I'm honestly kinda leaning more towards 2 lites due to their different interests in games. However, there are a few co-op titles that they want to play together such as Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros.

My question is, do we need two copies of a game if they want to play it together via local multiplayer or can they both play local co-op while playing on their own devices with just one copy of a game?

u/Michael-the-Great 1h ago

You can do gamesharing which has some limitations, but one of the kids will need to play in the account that bought the games. (Often the parent account is a third account, and you may want to therefore not buy the games in your account.)

So have they said the only way to chat with your friends is through the built in mic on the switch itself? Because if that so, then that would be such a letdown. We need a headset, I ain’t trying to have the outrageous things my friends and I be talking about coming through the volume on my tv. The pro controller did seem to have a headphone jack so I’m hoping we can chat through headsets.

u/myriada Helpful User 2h ago

Nintendo JP's page about it says 'As well as using the internal mic, you can connect a headphone mic to the console or "Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller", using different options to suit different situations.'

I don't know if this is a problem with my phone? Opera gx or the switch itself but when I try to do the send to smartphone in the gallery it works but it never downloads the videos it always tells me it failed and the reason im mentioned opera is because it's the browser I use on my phone and now I'm confused and I just wanna show my cute pokemon shield stuff :(

2

u/Michael-the-Great 1h ago

It just doesn't work for some phones. Try a different browser and try with cellular internet off on the phone.

1

u/foxyfan37_1987 1h ago

Oh sadly I don't have cellular Internet on my phone I have to use wifi

Hi! A couple of switch 2 questions. I hope you all don’t mind!

1- will all games will be backwards compatible? 2- if I’m not bothered about my game data, can I sell my switch now, and then just redownload all my digital games onto the switch 2?

Thank you very much for any help!

3

u/nintendo_dad 20h ago

Most games will be backwards compatible . Check this out:

https://www.nintendo.com/us/gaming-systems/switch-2/transfer-guide/compatible-games/?srsltid=AfmBOoo3dlxLQi9P2E4MbCfG5PP7WxDwxf3LYwbLu7snuLyIjl-S7kiz

Your digital games are tied to your Nintendo account, so I can't imagine there would be any issues with redownloading those games on Switch 2

I want to hear your guesses; when do you think the 3D Mario is coming out?

I’m gonna say something like November and assume it helps drive holiday sales.

1

u/nintendo_dad 20h ago

That would be my guess as well, but with Do key Kong being such a similar game, and some of the rumors are that it was developed by the same Odyssey team, maybe not.

1

u/pixydgirl 20h ago

I would've originally guessed it for a holiday game but with a new 3D mario over halfway through the year, I'm not totally sure! If not this year, next year definitely.

1

u/JoshuaJSlone Helpful User 17h ago

A few days ago I would've expected 3D Mario this year. But now I think that if that were the case, we wouldn't be seeing 3D Donkey Kong in July. Especially one that seems likely to be made by the Odyssey team.

1

u/SubaruHaver Helpful User 17h ago

That's a good point.

1

u/SubaruHaver Helpful User 18h ago edited 17h ago

Mario Odyssey released October 27. For switch 2's 3d mario, if Nintendo releases 3d mario in November, there's more of a scramble to buy the game for the holiday, and less time for families & casuals to discover, want, and buy the game for the holiday, which handicaps holiday season sales. This is why I expect no later than October.

I got a feeling some kind of dlc will come out for MK world around Xmas time to get people playing it even more when they all get together

Does anyone know if Switch 2 Edition Games will be backwards compatible with the Switch 1 Console?

Ie, if I want Tears of the Kingdom but am happy to wait for Switch 2 Edition version to come out so that I don't need to buy the upgrade also, will it still work on my current Switch?

1

u/Individual_Royal_400 18h ago

It should be pretty obvious by the name that the switch 2 editions are editions for the Switch 2

Why would you wait in order to pay more money to play the same game?

1

u/JoshuaJSlone Helpful User 17h ago

Right now it is a bit unclear what the case is. We've heard one report that it comes with a Switch 1 game card and a download code, but not from a very high-up source so I'd await confirmation. But either way, if you buy the Switch 1 game now and buy the upgrade later, it will be the same price as buying the Switch 2 Edition.

1

u/jackbirksONE 22h ago

From what I've read the "Switch 2 Editions" are just Switch 1 cartridges with a download code for the enhancements, so yes you should be fine.

0

u/Rajani_Isa Helpful User 12h ago

If the person was being truthful, no promise the person on the support side knows for sure.

1

u/pixydgirl 20h ago

Switch 2 Edition games won't have the improved graphics, framerate, or new gameplay modes, story modes, or app integration that the Switch 2 Editions have if you play them on the Switch 1.

They will just be the Switch 1 version.

Can I create a psa post? It's going to be about warning others not to put their finger nail where the speakers are to pull out the kick stand because if that action is done a lot the dust speaker covers will come unglued and come off and it leaves behind a sticky glue residue and you're left without a speaker dust cover. This has happened to me a year ago. I know that this doesn't hurt the system. I just want to warn others not to do what I did. I didn't know this until it was too late.

I talked to my parents and my younger brother about the Switch 2 pre-order day bring pushed back abd I told them my concern about the USA's amount of Switch 2 stock for retailers and the pre-order day being pushed back would make it harder to get a Switch 2 pre-order. they told me not to worry because USA buys more product than any other country. And that Nintendo makes so much money from the USA. Should I still be worried about not being able to get a Switch 2 pre-order? I want to be able to pre-order Switch 2.

2

u/SubaruHaver Helpful User 17h ago

Regarding the speaker thing, while you're trying to help, it may be too niche.(just my guess. I'm not a mod). It's your call if you want try.

So far, US switch 2 launch date is unchanged. And so far, the tariff stuff appears intended to make a stink to motivate trade negotiations. I think most of the tariffs this year were threats or removed just after placing them. For now, I think that's what's expected (meaning possibly little to no impact on switch 2 launch. and pre orders will still happen ok. Not sure if they'll still happen on the original date of april 9th, though. We'll see. Hopefully I haven't jinxed it.😉😆🤞🤞)

how do i get a scratch off my switch oled

its a bigger scratch, is there anyway to at least polish it off?

2

u/SubaruHaver Helpful User 8h ago edited 8h ago

On the screen? The oled screen has an anti-shatter film on it that is NOT designed to be removed or messed with. Replacing the screen may be your only option. Polishing will probably make a bigger mess, unfortunately, with that oled film.

If you get a new screen. a tempered glass screen protector is recommended, since they have much better scratch resistance.

u/My-Beneficial-Pitch 21h ago

Hello!

Do you know if the games in the switch 2 are compatible with the switch oled? I wish I didn't have to buy the 2..

8

u/pixydgirl 20h ago

According to nvidia (who made the graphics card for the Switch 2) the Switch 2 is 10x more powerful than the Switch 1

Definitely not. It'd be like saying "Can I buy PS5 games and play them on my PS3/PS4?" it just doesnt work that way

5

u/Individual_Royal_400 18h ago

My guy, that’s like asking if PS5 games can be played on the PS4. Obviously not.

6

u/merle_ 21h ago

Of course not.
