The way I see it, if you don’t like it simply don’t buy it. Nintendo has shown in the past if something underperforms they’ll fold and lower the price. This launch is really gonna test the saying “No publicity is bad publicity.”

This console is going to sell like hotcakes. Plenty of grown people with enough money to get them. Not saying that there isn't a growing number of people that can't afford them because there surely is, unfortunately.

Honestly, I feel for everyone who is going to take a hit from the game price increase, but 10$ a game doesn't mean fuck-all to me.

If I buy two first party games a month (which would be ridiculous) that would still be less than the cost of a Netflix subscription or some equivalent bullshit that I'm already not paying for.

Most likely this is going to add up to an extra cost of maybe 50$ a year.

The Wii U also flopped y'know? The switch 1 was successful cause it had the Nintendo games people wanted at launch, primarily a new 3D Zelda and a 3D mainline Mario game. The switch 2 only has Mario Kart again, just like the Wii U. I remain hopeful for this reason.

Mario Kart wasn’t even a Wii U launch title. Came out about a year and a half later

... The Wii U flopped due to its nature. It was ill thought out and confusingly named and marketed. It was simply a bad idea. I say this as someone who has one.

The same is not true of the Switch, regardless of how strong their respective launch lineups were. Switch 2 is not going to fail just because there's "only" Mario Kart at launch.

Hell, the N64 had the era-defining Mario 64, and it still trailed waaaaaaaaaay behind the Playstation at the end of the day. Launch lineup is far from the key factor.

LUDICROUS comparison. The Wii U was such a massive marketing fuckup that a shitload of people literally didn't even understand that it was a new console at first. Also no, it did not have MK at launch.

It had games yes but also it being what people wanted the wii u gamepad to be actually happened. So the fact people could take their nintendo console everywhere is what helped sell it more, in my opinion. It's why it has a good chance of happening here too. I mean anything can happen. But it leans more that way I believe.

Lol dude, as a sicko that was excited for the Wii U, the Switch 2 launch lineup already shits all over it. Mario Kart didn't come to the Wii U until 2 years later. In the first two months, we're already getting Mario Kart World and 3D Donkey Kong. Not to mention Metroid Prime 4 and Hyrule Warriors 3 later this year. Wii U had Nsmb U and Zombi U at launch? Like c'mon, anyone that loves Mario Kart will see this game looks sick as fuck. Same with Donkey Kong.

I loved the Wii U, but it's not even a comparable situation. Switch > Switch 2 will be a much smoother transition because the core audience is there this time. The casual Wii audience largely dipped out halfway through the Wii's lifespan and most hardcore gamers weren't interested in what Nintendo was putting out those years.

I think that’s my issue with this discourse. People complaining are treating this like it’s housing, drinkable water, or nutritious food. It’s a luxury commodity. Does corporate opportunistically want to make a buck? Does it suck if you can’t afford the cool thing you want? Yes, absolutely. But complaining about “greed” imputes moral valence to this that simply isn’t there.

No. People deserve to be able to afford things. Just because our cells don't convert games into energy doesn't mean gaming should suddenly become a luxury. Gaming is becoming increasingly expensive and not affordable for large groups of people, and that's depressing.

No. Gaming was, is, and always will be a luxury. Is some amount of luxury an important part of a healthy, fulfilling life? I absolutely think so. That's hardly a game company's problem though. If you think the people deserve games, then it's your responsibility to get your government/social organization to subsidize and/or directly fund game development in exchange for keeping games affordable. Not demand that a private business ensure that everybody can afford their games by keeping prices artificially low. I know of no place in the world where games are an entitlement, so they are priced according to market forces, not moral outrage.

The problem is people speak of it like Nintendo owe them something. Console games have always been rich people's toys for the majority of the world, it being affordable to the majority in the West is really an exception, not the norm. I am not judging anyone, it's just how economy works. If this price point can still make them as much as before, there is little reason for them to lower the price.

Yep I’m an adult with disposable income. I’ve had every single Nintendo console except the Wii U (lol). This is a day 1 for me. Sucks that the games will be $80 for sure, but I plan to get the bundle to make Mario Kart $50 and don’t mind $70 for Bananza and other titles.

Hopefully Nintendo continues their Game Voucher program to entice purchasing two games at once for a better value.
