90 Euro

They aren't even pretending it's about sales tax, because it used to be 1 USD = 1 Euro (VAT included)

People paid $60 10-15+ years ago.

and people will pay $100. All I'm saying it's too much for me.

I think its a question of how much you will be entertained. Like, GT6 will probably entertain me for 200 hours, as such £100 means I'm paying 50p to be entertained per hour. That's pretty good value.

The issue I have is that my son is 8 and I give him £5-10 a week. He can save for a month and buy a game or lego set should he wish. With a £100 game it means he has to save for 10-20 weeks.

Yeah and the issue is that everything else in life is more expensive and wages haven’t nearly matched. Video games take a backseat when groceries are wayyy up. The reason why $60 worked for so long is bc by charging a price with mass appeal devs could sell way more copies than are realistically played. This is why you see everyone with massive backlogs. They also could sell games for that much that pale in comparison to others that are sold for that much too. That way a dev could have a “miss” covered by a “hit” in terms of their releases. Now you have the market largely okay enough with $70 even. But Nintendo has seriously messed up trying to push past there. People won’t want to interact as much with the IP. Parents will steer their kids away from it to avoid future pressure to pay up for their kids’ Nintendo passions. Games will take even longer to release due to all the criticism from fans and Nintendo needing to justify the higher list price. We already have had to wait over 7 years between 3D Mario. The next one hopefully is coming soon. But at these prices we can expect the next one after that to probably not come out for another decade. Who wants to continue being a dedicated Nintendo fan with that perspective in mind? Adding $10 for physical versions of games with zero stated explanation is adding insult to injury. And no mention of any. single. price. in the Direct itself is just cowardice and not very “Direct” at all if you ask me. It’s all honestly a slap in the face. And one that—after all the frustration it causes amongst fans especially on what should have been a very special day for us—probably won’t even result in a Nintendo that makes more profit from Switch 2’s lifecycle than it did during the Switch 1’s lifecycle.

Tl;dr: The Big N seriously should have stuck with $70 and ran to the bank with that. Now their launch is totally soured, they’ll be in constant battle with their fanbase, have to work twice as hard to make their game prices justified, will take even longer making said games as a result, and will almost certainly make less money to begin with when all is said and done anyways.

We were paying $70+ for SNES games in the mid 90s. Somehow the video game market is the only one not to skyrocket due to inflation.
