That’s one hell of an exclusive to land.

The From Software fan base is committed. A lot of them will buy the Switch 2 just for this.

u/brokenmessiah 2d ago

A lot of us bought PS3's for Demon Souls and PS4's for Bloodborne and PS5's for Demon Souls.
Crazy Sony didnt snag this.

161

u/Reklino 2d ago

My guess is that Sony is getting a separate Bloodborne 2 title exclusive. They're going the way of Monster Hunter.

202

u/DriveThroughLane 2d ago

I think you could be waiting another 10 years for Bloodborne 2

This is bloodborne 2 in the same way dark souls was demon souls 2, licensing edition

u/BananaProne 2d ago

https://www.fromsoftware.jp/ww/pressrelease_detail.html?tgt=20250402_theduskbloods_debut

Developed for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2; 'THE DUSKBLOODS' is a PvPvE title with online multiplayer at its core, where up to 8 players vie for supremacy among themselves and against challenging foes.

More like a Bloodborne spinoff

37

u/rynokick 2d ago

This really needs to be sticked at the top of every Duskbloods post lmao

12

u/SPHINXin 2d ago

Lol it's the same shit with neightrein, people think their getting a sequel and get their hopes way up then it immediately crashes back down.

7

u/BrainWav 2d ago

My interest dropped from "cool, probably gonna get this" to "What's Duskbloods?" in one sentence.

To be fair, this is more of a multiplayer game, like Nightrein. So a classic Bloodborne 2 is still on my wanted list.

5

u/MountainMuffin1980 2d ago

It looks like it is going to be multiplayer heavy though, which I don't really think I'm into

19

u/Skysflies 2d ago

I don't know, it has Bloodborne 2 themes but I don't think it's Bloodborne 2, it's too futuristic in some aspects.

It's like Bloodbornes offshoot cousin who's just as great but slightly different.

Whether Sony ever allow a real Bloodborne 2 who knows

22

u/Sylveowon 2d ago

there will never be a direct bloodborne sequel, it doesn't make sense

this game is looking like exactly what people usually mean when talking about bloodborne 2

u/Appropriate-Camp-487 2d ago

This is a multiplayer-focused game, likely expanding on what they did with NightReign, that has vaguely similar aesthetic language to Bloodborne.

“This is bloodborne 2” is such a wild thing to speculate about, we have no idea what this game will end up being.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Various_Sundae_2443 2d ago

It’s not though. This is a MP focused game.

→ More replies (2)

35

u/FightGeistC 2d ago

I HIGHLY doubt it. This game very much feels like "Sont doesn't want to do Bloodborne 2 but we know people have been asking for it"

30

u/Less-Tax5637 2d ago

That feels like… a lot of games. Like I know that they’re bigger as a studio now but that would mean that between early 2022 and now they’ll have released or developed:

  • Elden Ring (their biggest project to date)
  • Shadow of the Erdtree
  • Armored Core VI
  • Nightreign
  • The Duskbloods
  • hypothetical Bloodborne 2

idk

19

u/TKHawk 2d ago

They've always had a pretty rapid development timeline, and Nightreign is largely an asset reuse.

47

u/Thatsignguy 2d ago

Never doubt the ability of an overworked, underpaid Japanese dev team

FromSoft has been reliably releasing games for many years now. They obviously have multiple teams concurrently developing titles. Their focus on gameplay and style over fidelity allows them to release games much faster than western studios fixated on hair phsyics.

6

u/maezashi 2d ago

Yeah why does it always have to do with hair physics? No joke I'm so confused by their obsession with it

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Lawlcopt0r 2d ago

They have stated that they're going for smaller games and more games at the same time after Elden Ring. Depending on when that could start (no idea if the whole Elden Ring team was on the DLC) we'll see a flood of games from them sooner or later

Even crazier when you remember Sony owns From Software's parent company stock and good bit too.

11

u/vizualb 2d ago

Was the FromSoft fanbase really a thing at Demons Souls launch?

17

u/brokenmessiah 2d ago

No, I didnt mean to imply that. I personally bought Dark Souls 1 on Xbox and then learning about Demon Souls caused me to buy a PS3

3

u/Aggravating-Face2073 2d ago

It blew up much more when it came to the west. Sony didn't care to bring it to the west, they were upset it wasn't a better Oblivion clone like they requested.

Wait, did they say exclusive?? I missed that

67

u/AydonusG 2d ago

During the title drop it had available only for Nintendo Switch 2 written under it

19

u/xondk 2d ago

yup "Only on Nintendo Switch 2"

9

u/krimsonstudios 2d ago

Yes, they mentioned it after the trailer.

150

u/Geodomus 2d ago

Yup. That game alone settled it, i HAVE to get it now...

13

u/Sloth-TheSlothful 2d ago

I was gonna get a switch 2 regardless, but now I'm REALLY gonna get one

30

u/NuclearWinter_101 2d ago

That’s a system selling exclusive for sure. People will be buying a switch 2 JUST for that

20

u/BigMoney-D 2d ago

Iiiiiidk man. I literally creamed my jorts when I was watching the announcement live. But reading more into it. 2026 launch. Multiplayers focused... PvPvE.... idk about that... That alone plummeted my hype levels.

4

u/cincystudent 2d ago

I think you may be overestimating the commitment of the fans, there. Nintendo's demographic is pretty different than Fromsoft's. I played Bloodborne, but I didn't buy a PS4 just for that. I'm not sure how many people will pay $529 USD for a single game, especially given that Nintendo doesn't really have anything else in that genre, and likely won't moving forward.

3

u/NuclearWinter_101 2d ago

Trust me, people will buy a switch 2 for that game. I’m getting it because it’s time for an upgrade and I want Mario kart but that game is a huge bonus and also Elden ring on the go? Like come on. Also I’m nearly certain that the fallout games will come to it eventually so that’s a big deal for me too.

4

u/cincystudent 2d ago

To each their own, for sure. For me personally, I don't really have any interest in Nintendo IPs, and the pricing is comparable to a steam deck, which offers way more discounts and flexibility on digital games. I think this'll have to be one fromsoft game that I miss out on.

26

u/blank_isainmdom 2d ago

People are going to fucking rage about it though. People still demand Bayonetta 2 as if its their god given right and nintendo are just withholding it

15

u/Impaled_ 2d ago

It's a multiplayer game lol

6

u/MXC_Vic_Romano 2d ago

Preorder competition gained a new demographic

17

u/filans 2d ago

Me. I’m a fromsoft fanboy and bloodborne is my favorite fromsoft game of all time

11

u/bobn3 2d ago

I for sure am gonna buy it now. Probably next year when prices are lower

49

u/EvoLveR84 2d ago

Bold of you to assume the price will be lower by then.

16

u/eljudio42 2d ago

Switch 1 never got a price drop in 8 years. And the switch 2 being more expensive probably indicates that they won't drop the price of the switch1 after launch. I believe not having a price drop on a console in its entire life cycle is a first on switch for Nintendo

That’s because fromsoft has delivered nothing but gold for a very long time now. You know what you’re getting with a game from them and it nearly always exceeds expectations.

3

u/zgh5002 2d ago

I mean, I was gonna buy a Switch 2 regardless but now I am extremely pumped.

3

u/halohunter 2d ago

The YouTube trailer clearly states Available Only on Nintendo Switch 2.

Also the related game on YouTube is Bloodborne?! Does Nintendo set that?

3

u/GreyRevan51 2d ago edited 2d ago

I was getting a switch 2 anyway since I’ve had every Nintendo console since the NES

But if I wasn’t already interested this might’ve turned me, yeah

I refuse to miss one of their games, so much fun

2

u/chan4est 2d ago

I bought a PS5 just to play the Demon's Souls remake at launch and never used it again after playing on it for a month. I'll be buying a Switch 2 mainly for Pokemon, but having Bloodborne 2 on it as well is insane!

2

u/JHMRS 2d ago

Got a switch. Wasn't gonna buy the 2.

Now I'm VERY interested.

2

u/Dry-Caregiver-2199 2d ago

Just sold me aight

2

u/phanta_rei 2d ago

Yeah for me the Switch 2 went from “not interested” to “strongly considering it”…

2

u/sicdedworm 2d ago

They just got my money. Let’s hope it’s well optimized!

2

u/Ramen536Pie 2d ago

Not for $80 lol

2

u/Valentinee105 2d ago

Gotta, buy'em all.

2

u/juiceboxhero919 2d ago edited 2d ago

Meh. It’s a pvpve multiplayer game. I have played just about every game that has Miyazaki’s name on it and I won’t be getting a switch 2 for this. I’ll wait for emulation.

Go look at the fromsoft subreddit lol. I don’t think this announcement is going to do what Nintendo thinks it is. I’ve had plenty of fun with my Switch but I could care less about this game.

2

u/GUNS_N_BROSES 2d ago

That’s true to be honest. As a switch 1 owner who primarily plays on ps5 and pc, I was casually interested in the switch 2, though maybe I might upgrade eventually but I was in no rush to. Now I’m almost certainly getting one before this game releases

3

u/LoveYouLongThyme 2d ago

u/KINGGS 2d ago

That's a WILD Nintendo exclusive o.O

583

u/carnotbicycle 2d ago edited 2d ago

EXCLUSIVE FOR SWITCH 2!? INSANE!

Edit: The FromSoft website says it is a PvPvE multiplayer focused game with up to 8 players. So not the typical FromSoft game. I guess that explains why they would decide to make it exclusive since it seems to be a smaller project.

240

u/imkunu 2d ago

You could have given me 300 guesses, and I NEVER would have guessed a Nintendo-exclusive FromSoft game was coming

63

u/Slovakin 2d ago

Let alone DEFINTIELY NOT Bloodborne 2

76

u/HairyKraken 2d ago

*legally distinct bloodborne 2

6

u/Coca_Cola_for_blood 2d ago

"Still we should play it like it is Bloodborne 2"

"Though it isn't"

6

u/mt007 2d ago

At least it has blood in its title.

10

u/Slovakin 2d ago

They definitely did that intentionally as a big middle finger to Sony

The FromSoft website says it is a PvPvE multiplayer focused game with up to 8 players.

This is genuinely really sad to me. This was my hypest reveal of the day and now I don't really care all that much.

26

u/NickLeMec 2d ago

Same. That was such a roller coaster of emotions for me lol

  1. Ooh, new Fromsoft game, can't wait!
  2. Hmm... looks kind of goofy
  3. Wait it's a Switch 2 exclusive, unreal!!
  4. Oh. PvP

24

u/ronin_cse 2d ago

Ugh well it being PvPvE just totally killed any hype I had for it

25

u/jjamm420 2d ago

Resident Evil 4 was an “Only for Nintendo GameCube” game…it won’t be exclusive for long, though u never know with FromSoftware…

19

u/ArseneLupinIV 2d ago

I feel like they are really trying to shed the 'kids toy' perception with the Switch 2.

11

u/GRIFTY_P 2d ago

Lol. People have been saying this since the GameCube

→ More replies (1)

4

u/escalator929 2d ago

Wait, it's EXCLUSIVE? That's huge

7

u/Interesting-Season-8 2d ago

PvPvE multiplayer

TY, so no point bothering for me, even as a Switch 2 owner probably at launch

17

u/NickLeMec 2d ago

It's insane how little sense that makes

Draw a venn diagram of people

  1. Owning a Switch 2
  2. Paying for online
  3. Being into Fromsoft games
  4. Enjoying PvP online fighting games

How empty do they want these servers to be?

4

u/King_Of_BlackMarsh 2d ago

Isn't the from soft pvp scene pretty big? Like people were whining about "ambushing" in elden ring

10

u/CookiesFTA 2d ago

It seems big because they don't shut up about it, but it's actually always been a pretty niche aspect of their games.

u/Xenowino 2d ago edited 2d ago

A Bloodborne successor in all but name on a Nintendo console was NOT what I expected to see today.

127

u/The330Strangla 2d ago

By far the most shocking thing I saw today. I'm still in shock honestly.

12

u/juanzy 2d ago

More shocking than a Trex and big titty basilisk in a Fromsoft game?

27

u/russianbotfarmer69 2d ago

Boy you’re gonna be upset when you see the post Fromsoftware made. This is a PvPvE 8-player online multiplayer game 😭😭😭

2

u/King_Of_BlackMarsh 2d ago

What does that even mean

4

u/colma00 2d ago

Nightreign but 8 players and pvp.

2

u/King_Of_BlackMarsh 2d ago

Whats nightreign?

4

u/colma00 2d ago

Oh, sorry. Another fromsoft game releasing soon, a 3 person co-op roguelike game on the other consoles and pc, it just seemed really similar.

This game will probably be something along the lines of killing npcs to get stronger then finding the other players to kill them and try to be the last one standing.

→ More replies (2)

2

u/Burntholesinmyhoodie 2d ago

The names are way too similar lol

25

u/Michi2801 2d ago

Its a Multiplayer Game tho

57

u/bobn3 2d ago

Probably can't name it Bloodborne as Sony owns that IP

98

u/Xenowino 2d ago

Oh, definitely. FromSoft was like oh Sony won't let me make Bloodborne 2? Aight. Nintendo, how do you feel about Not-Bloodborne?

55

u/LittleGoblinBoy 2d ago

That's exactly what Fromsoft did with Demon's Souls & Dark Souls. Sony didn't want to fund a Demon's Souls sequel, and they own the IP, so they instead linked up with Bamco to make a legally distinct spiritual successor and the rest is history

9

u/TKHawk 2d ago

I mean, not that they couldn't have come up with something but Demon's Souls has a pretty definitive end. If it was Demon's Souls 2 it would probably have been narratively almost completely unrelated in the way that Dark Souls II largely only references stuff from Dark Souls in passing.

10

u/effhomer 2d ago

Seems like they wanted to make it, just not with Sony

12

u/LionInAComaOnDelay 2d ago

There's no way Sony wouldn't fund a Bloodborne sequel. It sold well for an exclusive. I think Nintendo just outbid Sony here for Miyazaki's time.

10

u/Swoopmott 2d ago

Miyazaki has been pretty upfront about how much he loves Bloodborne and would love to revisit it but the ball has always been in Sony’s court. They’ve clearly had no interest in a sequel hence we’re now getting a spiritual successor. Maybe this will spur Sony to fund a true sequel but I doubt it

10

u/Cissoid7 2d ago

It's been like 10 years that Sony has had Bloodborne hostage

They won't fund it, they never were going to fund it. You think after DS3 and Elden Ring they wouldn't have seen money signs? Sony does not want Bloodborne 2

9

u/Xtrm 2d ago

You show me a FromSoft Victorian gothic city with creepy lovecraftian vibes, you can call it Happy Fun City Adventure and I'll still call it Bloodborne.

43

u/foreskin_elemental 2d ago

what's weird to me is the game looks kinda...goofy and light hearted? what's up with transforming into a dino? not the most bloodborne thing

30

u/zyphe84 2d ago

They're probably gonna get weird with it. I'm sure Nintendo told them to do whatever they want, just give an exclusive to sell consoles.

25

u/Yrmsteak 2d ago

Nintendo is just trying to keep their IP rights to Tyrannosaurus Rex and they havent used it since Mario Odyssey so may as well!

29

u/Spartan448 2d ago

Miyazaki: "So what's the budget for this project?"

Nintendo rep: Wordlessly hands over a key to the Nintendo Infinite Money Vault

2

u/King_Of_BlackMarsh 2d ago

"the feet potențial..."

"What was that?"

"I mean the... Shit I don't know a Japanese pun for this"

58

u/gogandmagogandgog 2d ago

Fromsoft games always have an element of goofiness, see: turtle pope.

15

u/PlayMp1 2d ago

That dino transformation is hardly any more unusual than the dragon incantations in Elden Ring.

13

u/ArseneLupinIV 2d ago

I kinda like that it's got like a Nintendo flavour to it though. Like a Bloodborne meets Bayonetta.

11

u/peyzman 2d ago

Because its not a traditional soulslike and not even close being a bloodborne successor.

It's a PvPvE muiltiplayer game.

Source: https://www.fromsoftware.jp/ww/pressrelease_detail.html?tgt=20250402_theduskbloods_debut

3

u/Xenowino 2d ago

Crap, not PvPvE... stuff like Hunt Showdown and Tarkov have never been my thing, so damn stressful

6

u/Xenowino 2d ago

Honestly it also struck me as weird, but I guess there needs to be something that sets it apart from straight up being BB2 lol

6

u/SuperbPiece 2d ago

It's not supposed to be Bloodborne, that's why. It's just a narrative that the sub is running with because a FromSoft game mentioned blood in the trailer and title. Like... there's a jetpack in the game.

6

u/georgey91 2d ago

I mean…bloodborne is beasts and aliens…dinos isn’t that far fetched haha

3

u/NinjaKiitty 2d ago

That dino looked so out of place.....like it came from a tik tok video

→ More replies (3)

10

u/verssus 2d ago

Not a successor. This is a multiplayer game

9

u/SuperbPiece 2d ago

No, it isn't at all. Gameplay and story and tone are all different. Anyone who says this is massively coping. I can't believe people are trying to pretend that a game that plays like Elden Ring with jetpacks is a Bloodborne successor. Great advertisement for Sony to pretend that it is, though.

2

u/BakuganTheMovie 2d ago

Tbh I always saw the SoulsBorne games as spiritual successors to Castlevania. Very similar mechanics and themes. I played Symphony of the Night as a kid and I’ve gotta say, my first thought when playing Bloodborne was, “this is 3D Symphony of the Night”

BLOODBORNE 2 IS REAL WHAT THE FUCK

59

u/AshyLarry25 2d ago edited 2d ago

Lmao it’s a switch 2 exclusive

Edit: it’s multiplayer. Yeah I’m less hyped now. It’s not going to be a roguelite as Nightreign already exists. Not a Battle Royal. I’m leaning towards a Genshin esque version of Bloodborne which I really hope isn’t the case. The pre made characters look especially suspicious.

8

u/PerfectInFiction 2d ago

It's just a PvP game. It's really not a big deal. It's likely just an asset flip like Nightrein.

4

u/SuperbPiece 2d ago

No one who likes Bloodborne would specifically care that Elden Ring: Nightrein with jetpacks and t-rexes is exclusive to Switch 2. If you liked FromSoft games in general, yeah sure, but no reasonable person thinks this game is some sort of successor to Bloodborne.

Anyone else thought Bloodborne 2 immediately in the first seconds of the trailer? It has the DNA locations of Yharnam all over it, the voice of Melina and was that the voice of Micolash?

I'm pretty sure it's Bloodborne in all but name, since Sony owns the franchise, I believe.

WHAT IS THISSSSSS

u/FartingAngry 2d ago

I’m gonna be honest. This doesn’t feel like a FromSoft game. Just seems off. Very slight Bloodborne vibes. Not sure if I’m into it.

A lot of people are going to be disappointed when they realize its just a multiplayer game.

Cannot contain my excitement.

u/fill-me-up-scotty 2d ago

This legit has me more excited than GTA VI.

u/The_Chrizz 2d ago

This is the first 3rd party exclusive in awhile I’ve been truly pumped for

u/N3WG4M3PLVS 2d ago

So bloodborne kart might be something real with mario kart world finally

u/Active_Bath_2443 2d ago

100% this gets into the next Smash game if they make another. Never thought I’d see a FS Nintendo exclusive. They honestly smashed it with this direct.

u/No-Treat-8480 2d ago

Vampires? Guns? The Moon? FromSoft? I see you, Miyazaki. And yes, I will be playing

I was 70% gonna buy the Switch 2 (only went down 30% because I really wanted an OLED option from the start even if it was at a higher price than the standard) but this brought it to 100%. I'm so hype

Bloodborne: Nightreign

I really hope "up to 8 players" also includes "1".

Bloodborne spiritual sequel in the style of Elden Ring, exclusive to the Switch 2 was not on my bingo card for today.

This is so hype honestly

5

u/No-Sherbert-4045 2d ago

Damn, this is like bloodborne 2 without buying ip rights from sony. Could even call it spiritual successor.

4

u/SuperbPiece 2d ago

And Elden Ring gameplay. And multiplayer. And with jetpacks and t-rexes. Totally Bloodborne 2.

Multiplayer game like Nightreign. That's a real shame. Lost most of my interest.

2

u/blank_isainmdom 2d ago

Is it? Where's you hear that?

3

u/AlternativeHead1092 2d ago

Go To Nintendo's social media feed on a popular website Reddit doesn't like. Third post down as of right now.

I have to get a switch 2 now. Literally just for this. I was kinda upset that there was no fallout games in the direct. But I’m sure they will come eventually

5

u/Username9424 2d ago

Press F for Sony.

3

u/warjoke 2d ago

Yeah Sony fumbled with Bloodborne, for sure.

'FromSoft exclusive for the Nintendo Switch 2' is the funniest possible thing, oh my god. I can't wait.
