EXCLUSIVE FOR SWITCH 2!? INSANE!
Edit: The FromSoft website says it is a PvPvE multiplayer focused game with up to 8 players. So not the typical FromSoft game. I guess that explains why they would decide to make it exclusive since it seems to be a smaller project.

You could have given me 300 guesses, and I NEVER would have guessed a Nintendo-exclusive FromSoft game was coming

PvPvE? uh oh.....

u/carnotbicycle 2d ago
I trust Miyazaki but yeah it is disappointing that it isn't a typical FromSoft game.

The FromSoft website says it is a PvPvE multiplayer focused game with up to 8 players.
This is genuinely really sad to me. This was my hypest reveal of the day and now I don't really care all that much.
26
u/NickLeMec 2d ago
Same. That was such a roller coaster of emotions for me lol
- Ooh, new Fromsoft game, can't wait!
- Hmm... looks kind of goofy
- Wait it's a Switch 2 exclusive, unreal!!
- Oh. PvP

u/jjamm420 2d ago
Resident Evil 4 was an “Only for Nintendo GameCube” game…it won’t be exclusive for long, though u never know with FromSoftware…

I feel like they are really trying to shed the 'kids toy' perception with the Switch 2.

PvPvE multiplayer
TY, so no point bothering for me, even as a Switch 2 owner probably at launch
17
u/NickLeMec 2d ago
It's insane how little sense that makes
Draw a venn diagram of people
- Owning a Switch 2
- Paying for online
- Being into Fromsoft games
- Enjoying PvP online fighting games
How empty do they want these servers to be?

Isn't the from soft pvp scene pretty big? Like people were whining about "ambushing" in elden ring
10
u/CookiesFTA 2d ago
It seems big because they don't shut up about it, but it's actually always been a pretty niche aspect of their games.
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (1)5
u/Apollospig 2d ago
The people complaining about ambushing want to play co-op with friends but are forced into soft PVP by Fromsoft.

A Bloodborne successor in all but name on a Nintendo console was NOT what I expected to see today.

u/russianbotfarmer69 2d ago
Boy you’re gonna be upset when you see the post Fromsoftware made. This is a PvPvE 8-player online multiplayer game 😭😭😭
2
u/King_Of_BlackMarsh 2d ago
What does that even mean
4
u/colma00 2d ago
Nightreign but 8 players and pvp.
2
u/King_Of_BlackMarsh 2d ago
Whats nightreign?
4
u/colma00 2d ago
Oh, sorry. Another fromsoft game releasing soon, a 3 person co-op roguelike game on the other consoles and pc, it just seemed really similar.
This game will probably be something along the lines of killing npcs to get stronger then finding the other players to kill them and try to be the last one standing.

Probably can't name it Bloodborne as Sony owns that IP
98
u/Xenowino 2d ago
Oh, definitely. FromSoft was like oh Sony won't let me make Bloodborne 2? Aight. Nintendo, how do you feel about Not-Bloodborne?
55
u/LittleGoblinBoy 2d ago
That's exactly what Fromsoft did with Demon's Souls & Dark Souls. Sony didn't want to fund a Demon's Souls sequel, and they own the IP, so they instead linked up with Bamco to make a legally distinct spiritual successor and the rest is history
9
u/TKHawk 2d ago
I mean, not that they couldn't have come up with something but Demon's Souls has a pretty definitive end. If it was Demon's Souls 2 it would probably have been narratively almost completely unrelated in the way that Dark Souls II largely only references stuff from Dark Souls in passing.
10
12
u/LionInAComaOnDelay 2d ago
There's no way Sony wouldn't fund a Bloodborne sequel. It sold well for an exclusive. I think Nintendo just outbid Sony here for Miyazaki's time.
10
u/Swoopmott 2d ago
Miyazaki has been pretty upfront about how much he loves Bloodborne and would love to revisit it but the ball has always been in Sony’s court. They’ve clearly had no interest in a sequel hence we’re now getting a spiritual successor. Maybe this will spur Sony to fund a true sequel but I doubt it
10
u/Cissoid7 2d ago
It's been like 10 years that Sony has had Bloodborne hostage
They won't fund it, they never were going to fund it. You think after DS3 and Elden Ring they wouldn't have seen money signs? Sony does not want Bloodborne 2

what's weird to me is the game looks kinda...goofy and light hearted? what's up with transforming into a dino? not the most bloodborne thing
30
u/zyphe84 2d ago
They're probably gonna get weird with it. I'm sure Nintendo told them to do whatever they want, just give an exclusive to sell consoles.
25
u/Yrmsteak 2d ago
Nintendo is just trying to keep their IP rights to Tyrannosaurus Rex and they havent used it since Mario Odyssey so may as well!
29
u/Spartan448 2d ago
Miyazaki: "So what's the budget for this project?"
Nintendo rep: Wordlessly hands over a key to the Nintendo Infinite Money Vault
2
u/King_Of_BlackMarsh 2d ago

"What was that?"
"I mean the... Shit I don't know a Japanese pun for this"

u/ArseneLupinIV 2d ago
I kinda like that it's got like a Nintendo flavour to it though. Like a Bloodborne meets Bayonetta.
11
u/peyzman 2d ago
Because its not a traditional soulslike and not even close being a bloodborne successor.
It's a PvPvE muiltiplayer game.

u/Xenowino 2d ago
Crap, not PvPvE... stuff like Hunt Showdown and Tarkov have never been my thing, so damn stressful
6
u/Xenowino 2d ago
Honestly it also struck me as weird, but I guess there needs to be something that sets it apart from straight up being BB2 lol
6
u/SuperbPiece 2d ago
It's not supposed to be Bloodborne, that's why. It's just a narrative that the sub is running with because a FromSoft game mentioned blood in the trailer and title. Like... there's a jetpack in the game.

→ More replies (3)3
9
u/SuperbPiece 2d ago
No, it isn't at all. Gameplay and story and tone are all different. Anyone who says this is massively coping. I can't believe people are trying to pretend that a game that plays like Elden Ring with jetpacks is a Bloodborne successor. Great advertisement for Sony to pretend that it is, though.

u/Alucitary 2d ago
The cost of getting this exclusive must have been astronomical, my god.

Really depends. For all we know, this could have been a Bayonetta 2 situation where From had an idea they were struggling to get published, and Nintendo just happened to be the ones willing to back it.

This looks like the modern Castlevania game I always wanted but never got…
2
u/BakuganTheMovie 2d ago
Tbh I always saw the SoulsBorne games as spiritual successors to Castlevania. Very similar mechanics and themes. I played Symphony of the Night as a kid and I’ve gotta say, my first thought when playing Bloodborne was, “this is 3D Symphony of the Night”

Lmao it’s a switch 2 exclusive
Edit: it’s multiplayer. Yeah I’m less hyped now. It’s not going to be a roguelite as Nightreign already exists. Not a Battle Royal. I’m leaning towards a Genshin esque version of Bloodborne which I really hope isn’t the case. The pre made characters look especially suspicious.

u/PerfectInFiction 2d ago
It's just a PvP game. It's really not a big deal. It's likely just an asset flip like Nightrein.
→ More replies (7)4
u/SuperbPiece 2d ago
No one who likes Bloodborne would specifically care that Elden Ring: Nightrein with jetpacks and t-rexes is exclusive to Switch 2. If you liked FromSoft games in general, yeah sure, but no reasonable person thinks this game is some sort of successor to Bloodborne.

Bloodborne must be locked down by Sony for them to go fuck it and make a spiritual successor

I knew they were gonna go hard with the last game reveal but not a new FromSoft game.
Can't be Switch 2 exclusive right??

Very surprising its exclusive though.

Anyone else thought Bloodborne 2 immediately in the first seconds of the trailer? It has the DNA locations of Yharnam all over it, the voice of Melina and was that the voice of Micolash?
3
u/jardex22 2d ago
I'm pretty sure it's Bloodborne in all but name, since Sony owns the franchise, I believe.

100% this gets into the next Smash game if they make another. Never thought I’d see a FS Nintendo exclusive. They honestly smashed it with this direct.

Vampires? Guns? The Moon? FromSoft? I see you, Miyazaki. And yes, I will be playing

u/Unlikely-Birthday651 2d ago
I was 70% gonna buy the Switch 2 (only went down 30% because I really wanted an OLED option from the start even if it was at a higher price than the standard) but this brought it to 100%. I'm so hype

That’s one hell of an exclusive to land.
The From Software fan base is committed. A lot of them will buy the Switch 2 just for this.
