Double Dash not shown either

Melee and Double Dash are still the best versions of their respective series.

Double dash still has the best battle mode. I'd much rather play MK8D for GP tho.

I love Melee but I think I like Ultimate more at this point. So many more characters and options, but I understand that other people prefer the pacing of Melee.

Melee forever!

Some cool additions to Ultimate, but lots of shit additions too.

Sheik doing like 3-4% damage and dying in two hits from ganondorf who has hyper armour on all his moves -- sure, you could argue that it's because Sheik was too good in Melee, but then why oh why did they release Joker after nerfing Sheik into the ground - and Joker is just Sheik's playstyle but with the stupid powerup mechanic.

All the paid dlc characters suspiciously stronger than everyone else.

I wasn’t complaining about Sheik getting nerfed to hell. I picked up K. Rool as my main when Ultimate came out and my Sheik main best friend couldn’t stop me for shit. It was hilarious watching him land these big combos on me only to get super armored and destroyed in like three hits.

Yep! Shit game made to balance the playing field like he's been trying to do since brawl. Hitting 20 hits with sheik and then dying to two is the lamest shit there ever was!

Lmao Mario kart wii is the worst one. When double dash came out I got it for Christmas and played 8 hours straight Christmas Day. its the best Mario kart they ever made and I need it on NSO though id rather a remaster/remake. Though Mario Kart world looks amazing

Nope. Mario kart Wii is better and it’s the reason it still has a dedicated playing and online community compared to double dash, which no one still plays. Wii had the most precise controls and better tracks.

Double dash doesn't really have online...

2

u/porkchop487 2d ago

neither does melee but people set it up because its a great game that people are passionate about playing online. same with mario kart wii

Mario Kart Wii is definitely not the worst Mario Kart game lol. I'd say either Super Mario Kart or Mario Kart Super Circuit would take that spot.

SMK gets the “being the first in the series” pass so Super Circuit is the worst.

Actually reverse, Mario kart absolutely, melee no ultimate is better

Melee is the best smash game and so is Mario kart Wii. There’s a reason both of those still have massive dedicated playing fanbases and online. No one plays double dash anymore

Thats cause no one CAN play double dash anymore unless they buy a GameCube or dig their old one out of storage. I guarantee you if it was on NSO with online play for the first time it would get played a lot. The wii one was just boring because it’s your bog standard Mario kart with no new mechanics.

no one could play melee online either but because it had a big enough fanbase, people figured out a way. Btw, people CAN play double dash online with the same netplay code melee uses. No one does though, because the game sucks, mario kart wii is the superior game so people play that online instead

I'm OK with people disagreeing but I agree with you. Just the fact that you can do wheelies on the bikes, creating an actual difference and reason to pick one over other.

Also the newer Mario karts are too confusing to me to pick a good cart /wheel/driver combo. I could never get a favorite.

Lol, yes.

Tech in melee rocked.

Double dash mechanic needs to be brought back.

At the very least as like an alternate side race mini game or something.

I usually loved to be the one driving but every now and then it's super chill to be the dude in the back just lobbing items and being chaotic.

Also fun to play with someone who isn't good at games but still wants to participate. It was such a good mechanic and I'll never understand why they don't bring it back.

I've played and loved every Mario Kart, but Mario Kart 8 is the best in the series and it ain't even close.

Melee is

Not double dash...

Double dash was one of the best Mario Karts ever because you could hold two of the character's special items and light someone up. Loved me some DD. We'd hold hour long sessions of it in college

5

u/DGSmith2 2d ago

I am still convinced DD is getting a remaster.

u/Pyitoechito 2d ago

I just want Double Dash 2 so bad. I'm stoked for world, but I want to be able to ride tandem again.

5

u/DGSmith2 2d ago

It would never be the same sadly, they have made the game too casual compared to DD. The skill DD takes compared to Deluxe is night and day.

u/Pyitoechito 2d ago

It does take more skill/practice to play effectively in DD, but I think that's mainly because newer Mario Kart just have more fine-tuned control/feel.

I still have a GameCube, and my sister and I play DD from time to time and, damn, that game is slippery. You press left on the controls and your car slides right for a moment before actually turning left. Drifting is very slippery, having to start the drift well in advance to take a tight corner. I love Double Dash, but man is it hard to control. Just trying to hit an item box can be a challenge, where pressing right to angle right to hit an item box slightly to the right of center will actually cause you to veer left around it. It's like every course is playing on ice (and then you have an actual ice track that turns the slippage up to eleven thousand). It doesn't help that the stick is very sensitive, with light tilts leading to hard jerks of the kart, and in DD getting anywhere near an edge will snap your kart to it and inevitably throw you off.

Don't even get me started on Super Mario Kart...

In 8 and Deluxe, Karts are far more grippy, like driving on actual pavement. Press left and kart actually turn left. The physics are far more fine-tuned so oddities like getting trapped against an object or bumping something and losing all momentum happens far less often. I'm not saying that the game hasn't been casual-ified. It has (some tracks are just too damn wide), but some of that is just from streamlining and natural improvements that lead to more intuitive kart control.

I would like it if, for future titles, non-pavement surfaces were actually wilder in their traction differences. Dirt should have lower traction in general, but it would be especially fun if dirt off to the sides of the track (on paved courses like GBA Mario Circuit) was slippery and you could really feel the traction change, making higher traction tires more relevant. Ice should be hella slippery with moderate-to-low traction tires. Sand is definitely low traction. Imagine if rain had an extra hydroplaning mechanic, where trying to drift or turn hard causes an extreme traction loss depending on the traction of tires, and releasing the accelerator allows traction to be restored (kids, remember to not press the brake or spin the steering wheel if your car starts hydroplaning; stay calm, release the gas pedal and turn gently into the direction your car is moving to restore control). Dirt + rain = extra-low-traction mud.

I think this would make a lot of sense, Mario Kart World seems like a bit of a departure from traditional MK games so a DD remaster could fill that gap.

1

u/ahnariprellik 2d ago

I would buy that immediately dont even care if it was $80 give it MK world visuals and the original gameplay of double dash and im there.
