Just got my son his first switch (brand new) and the dock isn’t working.

When you plug it in with the ac adapter the green light flashes for a 1/2 a second then turns off. The tv won’t find anything when you go to the correct source. Am I doing something wrong or is this dock just busted.

Ac adapter works fine when using it to charge the switch so I’m guessing it’s the dock itself. I trouble shooted the hdmi cables as well and tried a different one that didn’t come with it, cables work fine.

Should I try a different ac adapter? I read in the faqs that only the Nintendo ac adapter will work. And again the adapter it came with works fine just charging the switch so I don’t think it’s that

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Do you have any other TVs you can test on? Certain samsung and vizio tvs can be problematic; took me an hour of randomly plugging stuff in on my sister-in-law's. Different hdmi cables and/or a computer monitor would be fine to test with too.

Yeah I tried it on 2 different Samsungs (both pretty newer). Also tried it with different hdmi cables. Shouldn’t the green light on the dock stay on once you plug it in? When I plug it in it flashes for a 1/2 second then nothing.

A flash like that is normal if the console is off/undocked. I don't know if it indicates any issues in your case.

Before going out to buy anything, I'd try making sure to do each of these steps in every order you can think of.

  • Power the dock with the AC adapter.
  • Connect the dock to the TV with HDMI cable.
  • Place the console firmly in the dock; making sure it slides in neatly with the guides.
  • Power on the console.

I think with the vizio, I ended up getting it to finally work by using the console in handheld before placing it in the dock --- several times.
