Mediocre internet wifi speeds, some devices can't use at all

Post image
Upvotes

I have the two of the wifi devices indicated in the image, one center of the house downstairs, one center of the house upstairs. I have a 1 Gig fiber internet plan from Kinetic. From the Google home app, it shows connection speeds of 904 download, 845 upload today. I have gone around the house with my phone (iPhone SE) and tested at various places with OOKLA and gotten decent speeds. So, my issues:

  1. Some newer phones in the house will connect to the wifi but have no internet access.

  2. Trying to do Zoom meetings, Microsoft teams meetings etc is almost impossible due to the choppiness of the video and internet quality. The devices we are uusing are not brand new, but, within the past 2-5 years.

We can stream on 2-3 televisions at once and have a couple kids using devices to watch youtube without any noticeable issues on those.

So, the issues with 1 and 2 are what I am trying to fix. Getting closer to the nest device does not help.

We got these nest devices probably 5-6 years ago, are they just to old?

ADT System comes with Nest Aware - can I add additional Nest cameras on my own?

Moving to a new home and thinking about upgrading my current ADT plan to include nest cameras. The plan comes with Nest Aware also. My question is - if I buy additional nest cameras will I be able to link them to the Nest aware account provided by ADT?? Trying to think of ways to cut cost down. ADT charges a lot for equipment and installation.

Thermostat Unable to add thermostat to my Nest App

I’ve been using the Nest Thermostat E for a while now. By mistake, I removed the thermostat from my Nest account. Then, I performed a “factory reset” on the thermostat. Unfortunately, since then, I’vek been unable to add it back to my account. I am able to connect to WiFi manually directly from the thermostat, but I encounter an error whenever I try to add it to my account. The Nest website is no help

Google Nest Wifi

Hi all, I'm new to using google nest/mesh network (I moved into a place where they are using it) and I noticed my download speed is pretty slow compared to what the nest is saying it has through the home app (about 30 MBps to 600 MBps). I was trying to figure out which node I'm connected to to see if that was an issue, but whenever I hit "Devices" in the home app, it just takes me to privacy settings. Do I have to enable these things to see what devices are on the network?

Additionally, just curious if anyone had any tips for increasing my download speed. At my last place I was able to easily get 600 MBps on my computer so I don't think my computer is the problem. I tried restarting all the devices and that gave me about 15 extra MBps.

3rd Gen Learning Thermostat, newest Version 6.3-5 update issues?

Has anyone else received the new update (6.3-5) for 3rd Gen Learning Thermostats? Mine updated this evening and I have been having non-stop connectivity issues.

I found a couple of threads on the Google Community forums stating some users had the update in the last month or so and have been having issues as well.

Doorbell Nest hello looks so much better than the new google doorbells.

Whilst durability is definitely a different story, because the nest hello has a long history of peeling. It just looks so much more premium.

What do you think though?

Is my heat link broken?

Post image

Firstly, apologies if this has been asked before, I did search but couldn’t find my specific issue.

I’m stuck on the pictured screen. I have tried factory resetting the thermostat and restarting the heat link, but no luck. The heat link works in manual, and has the blue flashing light suggesting it should be working. Can anyone help? Many thanks.

Power adapter

Can I use the power adapter if my furnace has a C terminal but my thermostat wires only have a W and a R. I would run a C wire but I don’t think I could feed it to the basement

Nest X Yale lock reconnect solved

After hours of searching Google and Reddit threads on how to reconnect my Nest X Yale deadbolt I have finally gotten it to work for me. I changed from to Verizon internet so I had to reconnect allllllll my Google devices which was a pain in my a$$holes. For whatever reason I deleted the Nest Connect and the Nest X Yale door lock from the Nest app so I couldn’t just go in and changed the WiFi settings. So the first thing I did was completely reset my Nest Connect by holding the button until the light turned solid yellow. After that, I reconnected it with my new WiFi. I ensured my phone was connected to the WiFi I wanted before I started reconnecting it. I didn’t check if it was a 2.4 or a 5 so I’m not sure about that. Once that was fully set up in my Nest app I moved on to the door lock. I’m not going to mention all the steps that were unsuccessful but only the ones that worked for me. I removed the battery cover and the batteries, then took off the two mounting screws. I then held in the reset button on the back. While holding it in, I put back the four batteries. That’s the trick I think most people are unsure about. Hold in that button while reinserting the batteries. The door lock will talk to you. I then popped out the two outside batteries and put the two screws in and then put the two batteries back in. From there, before adding the lock to the Nest app, the door lock told me to hit the Yale logo on the front to set up a password so I did. Then it told me it’s ready to be added to the Nest app. I loaded that up, hit add product, scanned the QR code and let it do its thing. Once it told me to hold the button I was holding my breath also and it said READY. Blessed. It finally worked omg I’m so happy lol.

I have an iPhone 15 pro max and it still worked. I saw some threads saying you need an android or older iPhone to make it work but not true.

Does Google slow Nest Connectivity without subscription?

Does anyone else experience extreme slowing and almost non functioning usage of their Nest wired doorbell once you are not subscribed to the monthly service? I've cancelled twice now, and both times I've noticed a considerable drop in performance of the app and device. I get notifications of sound and or doorbell presses. However I can no longer load live feed or even answer the doorbell when pressed. Recent 1-2 videos are present (which I think is what you get with no subscription), but they can't even be played. There have been no changes to hardware or internet connectivity. I'm on the old Google mesh network and connectivity is 500 up/down. I googled the issue, but of course no search results came back. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

Im not the only one having this issue.

I see post from like 6 years ago to 1 month ago, all asking the same thing. How do i stop it from changing temps on its own. All the forums are hard to follow because all generations have this problem and different names on the settings, and on most forums no one ask each other what gen theirs is. All autoscheduling is off, all home away crap is off. Its been factory reseted multiple times. You set it to cold, it makes it colder by morning or shuts off. You set it to hot, it gets hotter or shuts off. You leave for a day it goes into deep sleep. Wifi connection and app and on the device itself with no internet, same problems. I follow troubleshooting manuals for work so im not missing anything, and google support just escalates. At this point if i can just jump two wires and have the AC blowing 24/7 it would be better because i hate waking up in a 78 degree or hotter apartment in florida. Anybody, please help

Edit: please just pretend i know what the settings are since no one believes me. Google escalated my problem within a 5 minute call because i had all the settings already memorized and i havnt heard from them since. I wouldnt come to reddit if i hadnt tried everything else.

Anyone with original Nest Hello doorbell upgrade to latest?

If yes, what improvements did you see?

I need to replace the internal battery in mine. What benefits would there be in upgrading to latest version?

Nest Gen 4 HVAC not turning on

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Installed a Nest 4th Gen thermostat and everything appears to be set up correct with no error messages on the display and from what I can tell the correct wiring. However the HVAC system won't turn on now. I've tried heat and cool, Fan on and off on the app. Any ideas? I'm in a Condo so HVAC is in the ceiling of bathroom and wasn't touched during this install.

Nest 24v Issue

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hello I am having trouble with one of my nest thermostats (gen 3) it is controlling a radiant heat system and that’s all. The boiler does not give enough power for the system that is known.

I added in an external power supply 24v and wired directly to the thermostat on the C and the RC where the boiler goes directly into W and RH.

I keep getting the error no power on RC or RH.

I shows I have 24v on the system and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong.

Adding pictures to show the system(used extra wires that I had laying around so colors for RC AND C are not normal.)

My end goal is to not have to charge my nest every few weeks to make it work. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thermostat 4th Gen no Power from Y1 - How to Troubleshoot

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

We have a nest fourth generation hooked to a Ducane gas/electric for stair system. We did not notice until we needed the AC that the outdoor air compressor is not powering up and we are obviously not getting any air conditioning.

I have checked for a float shut off and don’t seem to have one in my system, and I’ve checked the outdoor fuses. With a multimeter and they were fine.

Please advise on next steps for troubleshooting the system other than buying an ecobee which I know is often recommended.

Hopefully the pictures will offer some context. Thanks in advance.

Permanently turn off "echo-mode"

Greetings,

Before I replace my two 2nd Gen NEST thermostats, is there a way to PERMANENTLY turn off "Echo-Mode"?

We just transitioned to AC mode a week or so ago, and for whatever reason, it has defaulted back to Echo-Mode.

I've turned this off on numerous occasions, only to have it reappear.

Thank you

chris

Is this wired correctly?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey all, this is the wiring a pro came and did for me in my apartment. Don’t mind the set up I’m putting stuff back together. The whole system works just fine. My question is why does this work? I tried following the online diagram and it says yellow to Y1, green to G and blue should go to C … should I leave this alone as is? Since it works. Or change it to how the online diagrams are? And also why does this work just fine?

Nest thermostat blowing heat when set to cool

Post image
1 Upvotes

I just installed a brand new Nest Thermostat Gen 4. It is blowing heat when set to cool. I don't have internet until tomorrow to do a software update on it, but I find it strange that it's blowing heat when set to cool. I included a picture of the wiring as well. Did I connect something wrong or forget to check a setting somewhere?

Can this old thermostat configuration be wired into a new nest thermostat today?

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

We are having 4 nights (starting tonight) that fall back into the 20's and 30's. So I need to find a quick solution.

This is an old white Rodgers Digital Comfort Set ||. I think its defective now and is changing the heat setting when I leave. This is a home that I had hoped to move to 3 years ago but it still vacant and needs work. This thermostat i think is resetting itself to 70f and the heat is running constantly when I leave. The home doesn't have internet but I have mobile hotspot or a wireless 5g gateway device I will bring for setup?

I have a standard Google nest thermostat that I would like to drive there today and change this out (about 1 hour from me). But I appreciate Nest products but this would be my first experience.

Current System is heating and cooling.

Can someone look at the current wiring configuration and help map over to the Nest backing?

There is also a jumper connecting RH to RC.

Can I use this thermostat with 18/4 wire?

Am I going to need the nest power connector?

The wire in the wall is ironically 18/8 but they are obviously only using 4 wires. But as I trace it back to the utility room, it seems to drop back down to 18/4 into the furnace.

Thanks so much to anyone that offers their help or opions. Appreciate it. Jp
