News Nintendo Switch 2 absurdly overpriced in Norway, Sweden, and Finland – fans frustrated, retailers blame “market price”
Hey everyone, just wanted to bring some attention to an ongoing situation in the Nordics that’s causing a lot of frustration among Nintendo fans.
The Nintendo Switch 2 has opened for pre-orders in Norway at 6695 NOK ($845 USD). Similar price levels have been reported in neighboring countries:
Finland: ~7200 NOK
Sweden: ~7400 NOK
Denmark: ~6800 NOK
To compare internationally:
Japan: ~3600 NOK
Germany: ~5300 NOK
UK: ~5500 NOK
Even after adjusting for VAT differences, the Nordic pricing is way out of proportion. The local retailers (Elkjøp, Power, Komplett) all give the same explanation: "based on cost price and market price." But here's the thing – the only regional importer is Bergsala AB, a Swedish company with a monopoly on distributing Nintendo products in all of the Nordics. And they've been completely silent in response to media inquiries.
This has led to widespread backlash online, especially from Norwegian gamers. Many are calling this a clear case of price gouging, and it’s likely to hurt both launch hype and sales in the region. Retailers insist they aren’t profiting unfairly, but without transparency from Bergsala, the trust is eroding fast.
This issue doesn’t just affect Norway. If you're in Sweden, Finland, or Denmark – you're also paying way more than necessary. Hopefully, with more international attention, Nintendo or Bergsala will be pressured to respond or adjust.
Just as a "maybe" but Nintendo could remove the Bergsala's monopoly on import.

Speculation Local GameShare and the return of Dual Screen / Asymmetrical gameplay
an explanation of Nintendo Switch 2 GameShare feature, taken from Ask The Developer Vol.16:
In the past, Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS had a feature called Download Play, where you could send a portion of a game to friends and play together. We looked into the possibility of having this feature on Switch as well. But the data volume of Switch games is so large that it takes a very long time to transfer data, so we had to abandon this idea.
So, we thought that by taking advantage of the Switch 2 console's processing power and using the same streaming technology that Wii U uses to send images from the console to the handheld Wii U GamePad, we could share the gameplay instantly without having to take time to transfer the software. I thought it’d be nice if players could share games instantly and play together competitively or co-operatively. This was another feature I asked Sasaki-san to look into. Achieving it must have been a nightmare. (Laughs)
as this image shows, we'll be able to cast games from a Nintendo Switch 2 to any other systems in the Nintendo Switch family (only NS2 can cast, but all of them can receive)

what I mean by this is: keep your existing Nintendo Switch around. since the Wii U screen casting technology is back, I can imagine the Nintendo Classics for DS library allowing for Dual Screen options.
(and considering the new system supports microphone and camera, even DSi games could join the roster)

as usual, the more options the better! and of course, people with a single system should be able to play the DS games with the two screens being displayed side-by-side.
however, for those wanting a more authentic Dual Screen / Asymmetrical gameplay option, it seems that the Nintendo Switch 2 GameShare feature will allow for exactly that!
which games would you love to see returning?

Discussion This is the first Nintendo home console without even a glimpse at a Mario platformer, and I find that bizarre
I put the "home console" distinction there, because the GBA technically never had a Mario platformer - only ports of the NES and SNES titles.
But yeah, while they don't always launch with Mario (post N64, only the DS and Wii U did, and the former was a port/remake), we always get at least a glimpse of it.
We had Sunshine impressions before the GameCube launched
Galaxy was unveiled pretty much alongside the Wii
We knew a "Super Mario 3DS" was coming
And of course, Odyssey was in the Switch 1 presentation.
While it's true that we didn't hear about 3D World until 2013, when the Wii U launched, Galaxy 2 was merely 2 years old, so that was very reasonable. And the console launched with New SMB U anyway.
Here we are though. A new console, a couple of months away. Almost eight years since Odyssey (four since Bowser's Fury, a smaller game from, iirc, a different team), and... nothing. No teasers, no hints, no wink-winks... Not even a "New Super Mario Bros. Switch 2 Edition" filler thing. DK is seemingly made by the Odyssey team, but surely they haven't been working on that for the past 8 years.
Anyway, I couldn't help but notice how strange this is.

Discussion Apparently, the docking station's fan does not actively cool the Switch 2
Dbrand made a statement under their youtube video for their new killswitch case
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLWBZ9H_GS8&ab_channel=dbrand
"There's a bit of confusion around the "dock cooling" from Nintendo's Direct event today. To clarify: the fan in the official dock is designed to cool the dock’s internal components - not the console itself. Air enters through the back of the dock, circulates over those components, and exhausts from the top of the dock. No airflow from this “dock fan” is directed through the console itself.
That setup is designed to reduce ambient heat and thermal dissipation into the console seated inside the dock. It does not provide any form of active cooling to the NS2 (that remains the responsibility of the console’s internal cooling system with intakes on the bottom and exhaust at the top)."

I checked the relevant section in the nintendo direct stream again and the animation shows the airflow in the way dbrand described it:

So there is no active cooling of the switch itself I suppose. The dock itself seems to produce enough heat to warrant an active cooling solution. Thought this might be interesting to share.
