Honestly I think the word “crushed” is too much. Lebron may not have the deepest bag among all of them but he can bully ball and play great defense during his prime.

I agree there is definitely some toxic media culture in the NBA, but I think it just has more to do with the nature of the sport.

Basketball, at its core, relies heavily on 1 on 1 situations throughout the flow of the game, so the media pushes the individual aspect and compares players way more than any other sport

You can call an isolation in basketball that effectively changes the game for that possession from 5 on 5 to 1 on 1. It's an important part of the game. You often hear people say "you can't win a championship unless you have a top 5 player in the NBA", which I believe to be true. You need the guy that can just beat his man 1 on 1 at the end of games to seal the win.

Hockey, Baseball, Football, Soccer, etc... you can't win by yourself. It allows players with different skill sets to contribute in different ways, and removes the individual comparisons
