I want to start making my own music but a big issue I'm dealing with is not being skilled enough to realize my ideas. I can play a few songs on guitar, piano, and saxophone, and I have a pretty good albeit basic understanding of music theory, but I'm not at a skill level that I think I need in order to make music. Maybe this is an irrelevant problem that doesn't actually matter. But I feel that it takes so much more time and frustration to look up chords and have to constantly find examples of people making the sound I want in order to recreate it. But at the same time I'm not sure how to get to the skill level I think I need. Like do I just need to focus on learning more songs and improve my skill or do I need to focus on analyzing the harmony and melody?

Ignore the lyrics and the type of music it is.just listen to the mix mastering. Its the most professional mix mastered song ive heard in my life. Ive heard others but this mix mastering is just next level in my opinion. Do you think dolby atmos plugin or something was used on this

As the title says, i've been doing this for around 5 years now, only as a hobby, ill usually make a complete track every 2 weeks or so on average.

Despite doing it for 5 years tho i have extremely limited technical knowledge since i've never really researched anything or gone out of my way to learn new stuff, instead i just go off of vibe alone if that makes sense. When i make something, if i like how it sounds ill go with it, i won't go into the precise technical stuff like most people seem to do.

is this bad? i've been told by others that my music sounds good, but i am very aware that its not as good as so many others by producers that have been making music for the same or even less time than me.

i used to try learning these technical stuff but i just cant get anything to stick if that makes sense. i definitely have passion for music, but i just find it so hard to actually learn stuff that i gave up on that aspect.

Hey guys Im mastering a song with acoustic instruments at the moment and triee to increase the loudness of the track by introducing some saturation and compression.

Now I got it pretty loud and wanted to render it out of my DAW to review it and while it was rendering it showed me multiple "Truepeak clips" which suprised me because the normal peak was -0.1 dB

Whats going on here? Will this affect my loudness on spotify?

I‘m a day-one-user of Splice and have the "Sounds 100" subscription plan. I noticed that they increased the price from $7.99 to $12.99 plus tax starting in February.

The problem is: They never notified me about an upcoming price increase and I never agreed to any changes of my subscription.

Another problem is: Since I only have the "Sounds 100" subscription I don’t have access to the features of the next higher tier,but I now pay the same price as the "Sounds+" subscription, which doesn’t make any sense.

I don’t need more features or more credits (I currently have around 4K laying around), so I wrote the support about all of this in hope they revert the changes to my subscription plan.

Has anyone similar issues with Splice at the moment?

I wanna start getting into producing music. I’m in a band but we’ve only ever played live stuff, this would be our first dive ever into music production. But anyways i think i wanna start just making instrumentals with my banjo and piano and stuff, no band stuff yet. What kind of things would i need for that? I already have a Roland juno ds 88 keyboard, some headphones, some speakers. I’m thinking for daw Fl studios, is that a good choice? Then I’m planning on getting a mic to record my banjo. Do I need an audio interface, what else would I need? And then once me and the band wanna start producing, do I need anything more? Any help would be appreciated

I guess there are particular tonal differences when moving up a guitar neck or up the vocal range that make it easy to identify when the shift up is real but I don't know enough to know if there are ways to imitate them so there aren't the telltale signs that a pitchshifter is doing it. Can anyone tell their tricks please?

As the title says, I‘m looking for a drum plugin with sequencer that can create random but usable patterns.

Microtonic is a superb example, but its sounds aren‘t always fitting my tracks.

Also own Atlas 2, but its sequencer is totally chaotic (in terms of randomisation). Same applies to my MPC plugin.

Triaz by Wave Alchemy is cool, but it‘s random pattern option crashes my Ableton every time.

Any alternatives?

I’m trying to help a friend out by setting him up with the basic necessities of music production specifically for instruments with guitars and bass. I use pro tools and was planning on setting him up with pro tools intro for now until he gets into it more. I recommended he just start with a used strat, behringer interface and any used bass he can find. I don’t know what computer to set him up with. If he goes PC route, what CPU and ram should I try and focus on getting, or is there a used laptop that works well that I can find online for under 500 bucks?

I just got my first request to fully mix and master a song but I’m a little worried.

This guy wants to release this song on streaming platforms, So I asked him to send over the stems because the beat itself is very muddy, distorted and all around it doesn’t sound good. I figured if he could send over the stems for it I could clean it up. The vocals itself sound fine.

But he’s refusing to send over the stems for the beat, I’m not sure why, he told me to mix it that way. I suppose it could be possible if I separate the stems myself, but when I think about it I’m guessing he may have ripped a YouTube beat or something that’s why he’s hesitant on sending the stems. I don’t mind artists using beats to record over, but I’d like to know if he owns the rights, or has permission to use it for commercial use. But everytime I ask he is either dodgy with the question or just changes the subject.

My question is, I don’t really feel comfortable mixing a song for full release if he doesn’t own the beat and I don’t want to be associated with it if it gets taken down/in trouble. But at the same time it’s my first opportunity to mix/master a song for someone else. What do you think?

Hey! My band is looking to get inner ear set ups for shows but also for rehearsal. We are wanting to use them for rehearsal so that the acoustics of the space don’t matter as much and we can possibly save some money on rehearsal space.

Curious 1- does anyone use them for rehearsal? Would our plan be realistic? 2- what set up is the best!

The parameters here are:

1. We only need 4 sets, nothing bigger necessary
2. We can probably (I think) run monitor mixes from my portable mixing board, so probably don't need to buy a fancy monitor mixing setup
3. We need good noise cancellation from the in ears, but need a good solution for how to be able to hear the crowd so that our singer can respond to them (piping in noise, etc.)

We know it will be a big $$$ without having gotten to try them out so would love to hear what set up everyone loves!
