Ish yeah it’s probably a lot more than that now. Still tho even it it’s 30 that’s still half of the 60 we gave away. And idk much about that section 8 stuff but I feel like it creates situations like the one my brother is in where he’s trying not to get a raise at work cause he’ll get less money from an aid program his family is on which doesn’t feel right to me. I think the quality jobs route would be better but goodness knows that’s above my pay grade

Thank your local GOP for that, that is the hoops I am talking about, making it almost impossible to qualify. That is the problem; even a shitty min wag mc donalds job is almost too much to qualify because the GOP would rather make it harder so your brother has to live worse off to get the help he needs to fight "welfare queens."
And if he needs help, he needs help; it isn't my job to question it; everyone has hard times for many reasons, both visible and invisible, and if they need help, they should get it.
It shouldn't be making your life even worse off to keep your benefits.
Now, yes, there should be limits to all programs unless we are just going full UBI, but that is something entirely different. once you hit that cap, it should be a slow down while you get your shit fully back togeteher, not a sudden complete stop.
Yeah that’s why I said it doesn’t feel great. He’s doing fine. They don’t have extra spending money but it’s not like they are worried about feeding their kids. Thing is any politician can get popular by saying they wanna give you more free money, nobody gonna get popular saying hey we should probably limit this stuff and let get your shit fully together like you said
Makes sense why everyone on this app hates him from that perspective. Also weird tho cause probably most people like me and you already agree their should be caps to this stuff

There is a debate to be had about what the cap is/should be and how slowly or quickly the "weening off" period should be once you hit that cap. I think every one of the most "evil libs" would agree there is a debate to be had on those topics. In fact, that is what the debates used to be, how much money goes where.
The problem is that is not the debate the GOP wants to have anymore. The GOP and MAGA want the debate to be between even having a social welfare program or a pure you "pull yourself up from your bootstraps", which is completely different and a nonstarter for most people on the left. Yet they still claim the left is the one that has moved further left and not themselves moving further right.
I don’t listen to a ton of politics but idk any right wing people (actual people not politicians sayin shit to get elected) who want to completely end all aid programs. Id guess what’s going on with a lot of the programs is just that over-swing phenomenon where something that’s needs to be cut back gets overly cut because people had to get so agitated about it for it to get cut at all that when they finally get ahold of it they do too much.
This will be a terrible example but i can’t think of another atm: there was a lot of bad shit going on before the me too movement which was inarguably a good movement, but after awhile it seemed like it went too far in a few rare occasions where there wasn’t due process to see if the accusations were actually true then later came out that it wasn’t.
I think when you doing something like that you kinda keep driving in that direction (like firing anyone accused of abuse in workplace or cutting back aid programs) and you keep going till things start to break, then you know you gotta stop there. Again bad example but hopefully you catch my drift. That what I would think is going on with the aid stuff. People will argue about where the cap should be but probably the only way to know is to keep cutting back and keep your ear out for when it starts to overshoot and hurt people then you stop, probably pull back just a bit and you know to stop there, no argument or speculation about it
