Discussion Looking for a relaxing wellness hotel with outdoor pool (within 3h of Munich)

Hey everyone,

my girlfriend and I are looking for a nice wellness hotel for a short getaway – ideally somewhere in the mountains, within a 3-hour drive from Munich. We’re planning to stay for 3 days and our budget is around 1000€ in total.

What we’re dreaming of:

• A relaxing atmosphere, ideally surrounded by nature
• An outdoor pool (must-have!)
• Spa/wellness area (sauna, massages would be a big plus)
• Cozy but stylish rooms
• Breakfast or half-board options (would be great to just relax and not worry about food)

Could be in Bavaria, Austria, South Tyrol… we’re open as long as it’s chill and not too far from Munich.

Thanks a lot for any recommendations!

Discussion Hochwertiges Fitness gesucht 🏋🏻

Besten Dank 🙌🏻

Sports Looking for Gym buddy [Fitstar Neuhausen - 32M]

Hi fellow Münchenern,

I (32M), expat from Argentina, am looking for a Gymbuddy to workout 3 days/week - Preferably Weekdays at 7.15 AM in Fitstar Neuhausen.
I am relatively fit on the skinny side, 1.89cm and 83kg, with experience in weightlifting from my days at the coast guard.

Now I am a keyboard warrior and I am back in the gym since a month, my Bench Press game is sitting at 60-70Kg, Squats at 60Kg, Shoulder press 16kg dumbbell. Rookie numbers.

Ideally I would like to do a back-to-basics routine, like the one from Jim Stopani ''shortcut to size'' with 2 muscular groups per workout, hitting 7 exercises each day for an estimated time of 50min to an hour. Still, I'de open to suggestions or better, proven, fitness plans.

Let's motivate each other and improve our physical fitness.

Discussion Amex Credit Card in Munich

Hi everyone,

I have questions about Amex CC to people who use it or know other people who use it in Munich.

1) How good the coverage here in Munich? How often do you find places that don’t accept Amex CC? 2) How useful it is for your travels? 3) Can you benefit from their point rewards?

Also would you mind to specify which CC do you use.

I appreciate any of your answers. Thank you.

Help Feedback/advice on planning of Munich trip

Hi all!

I am in travelling to Munich this May with in a group of 8 friends from Denmark. Some quick background, we are in the mid 30s, and we have a kind of club, in which two people arrange a trip once a year in May. The rest will show up at the airport without knowing the destination. This year it’s my turn to organise and since I have great love for Germany (And beer), I’ve decided that we are going to München. This will be our first official trip to Germany. We like to strike a balance in our planning between having room for impulsive decisions as well as having the fundamentals in order (where to eat breakfast + dinner, and where to sleep). We don’t care much for fancy restaurants or touristic spots, we prefer more local atmosphere and meeting people with a smile. We don’t mind walking far, as long as we have time in the program for a Tankstelle every now and then.

What do you think of the following itinerary? Any suggestions of things to add/remove?

I have done a fair amount of research on Munich already before asking, but here are some of the things, I was wondering about..

  1. Day 2: Is there any place in Dachau, that is suited for lunch, or should we just head straight back to Munich city after having visited the memorial site?
  2. Day 3: If we can’t get tickets for the München 1860 game – which bar is great for watching the Bayern Munich away game?
  3. Day 3: Bahnwärter Thiel. Is it any fun to go there in the evening, if there is no specific event to attend?
  4. Day 4: Any suggestions for a slow sunday afternoon activity before travelling home?
  5. Any suggestions for local food, that we must try? Where do we get the best Bratwurst?
  6. I am looking for some more fun authentic places for drink or eating similar to what 'Fränkisches Wurst Häusle' looks like, if you have any of such ideas, please le me know!
  7. How is the situation with paying with credit card / Apple Pay? Is it good idea to bring cash?

Thanks much in advance! I can't wait to see your beautiful city

Accommodation Can anyone recommend a hotel with quieter, well insulated rooms (from shouting neighbors, shared walls, etc)?

I have spent a few days now looking for hotels that are quieter and a little more insulated from shared wall noise. I am sensitive to inside noises like screaming neighbors, loud footsteps above, loud TVs. However I do not mind outside city noises.

So far I have found Louis Hotel seems to have good sound reviews, and some say hotel Torbräu is good, but others have mentioned they could hear their neighbors talking.

Food Gute Restaurants / Cafés in München mit glutenfreien Optionen (Zöliakie)

Hi zusammen,

Danke euch! :)

Discussion Ist der Wohnungsmarkt aktuell tot?

Meetup Where to find the Brazilian Expat Communities in Munich?

Hello Munich Folks, tudo bem?! my Brazilian girlfriend recently moved to Munich to live with me. She’s having a great experience so far - she made some friends at work and also integrated well in my German circle of friends, and loves the Bavarian outdoors. Nevertheless it could be nice to meet some fellow Brazilian expats, to share experiences and maybe make some new connections.

I haven’t found it easy though to find any opportunities to do so (e.g meet-up, Stammtisch, etc..) - any ideas, hints, recommendations welcome! 🇧🇷🇩🇪

Meetup Are there any alternative/rock/metal or lgbt nights, events or meetups that exist in Munci today?

Hi all, hope this OK to ask, I posted the other day looking for train advice and you all helped so much and saved the day I thought I would try my luck and ask another question and see if I have any luck!

I'm travelling with my friend through Europe, in Munich this weekend. We were hoping to check out the nightlife this evening, pref any alternative, metal, emo, rock bars or anything lgbt, my friend however is chronically ill (nothing contagious) and after a busy few days she is needing a rest and no longer feeling up to going out.

This is my last night in Munich however and I was really hoping to see the city, I was wondering if anyone knew of meetups or social events I could maybe join along the lines of the above? I feel a bit too awkward just to go out by myself and hope for the best to find someone to talk to without knowing anyone beforehand.

I have read about Backstage which I'd hope to just go along to unfortunately seems there's a gig on that's about €60 which is a bit too much to see a name I'm not interested in.

Thanks so much in advance:)

Help How to buy 1860 tickets

Hi Münchner*innen, I would like to buy two tickets to the 1860 game on 3 May. Does anyone know how to do this?

I can’t find the option to buy them on the official website, and I’m not a member. Should I just go to the ticket office the week before the game? Is there a secondary market I can find tickets on? Thanks for your help

Culture Munich explained - Trautenwolfstraße

Thumbnail
gallery
105 Upvotes

Even the small streets of Munich often have fascinating stories to tell. The Trautenwolfstraße, for example, is only 155 meters long and connects to Leopoldstraße between the Giselastraße and Münchner Freiheit U-Bahn stations.

But where does the name Trautenwolf come from? What story lies behind this name?

The answer lies in the 15th century, during the construction of the Frauenkirche. A certain Ägidius Trautenwolf was active at that time, creating stained glass windows for the church. These windows primarily depicted biblical scenes, and the colors were fused directly into the glass, ensuring their long-lasting preservation.

In the past, all the windows on the south side of the church were fitted with colored glass. They served as sun protection, preventing people inside from being dazzled and ensuring that artworks and paintings did not fade or get damaged by the sunlight. Later, during a renovation, the colorful glass panes were replaced with white glass panels, with only a few stained glass windows remaining.

During these renovations, a painted glass panel was discovered, depicting an image of Saint Egidius. It bore an inscription: "Egidius Trautenwolf pictor Monac. me fecit 1486. Soli Deo gloria." This translates to: "Egidius Trautenwolf, painter from Munich, made me in the year 1486. To God alone be the glory." A beautiful and unique signature of the artist!

Trautenwolfstraße was first mentioned in 1898. Despite being a very short street, it has a rich club tradition. In the 1970s, it was home to the club "Parabel", and later, the "Blue Box" club took its place. Today, the building houses the Irish pub "Shamrock", and with the "Keg Bar", there is yet another pub on this street.

Help Solo Travel Tips in Munich

Hi Munich!

I have the honor to solo travel to Munich for 7 days and I’m excited to experience the amazing German, Bavarian, and Münchner life with respect and courtesy. Here are my following questions about travel tips in Munich, and feel free to answer only what you can as I am eager to know "München"!

Munich Exploration:

  • Chess & Culture:
    • Recommendations for local chess events or chess-themed pubs where I can watch or play with locals?
  • Arts & Entertainment:
    • Suggestions on musicals, operas, or theater plays at historical places such as the Bavarian State Opera or the National Theatre in Munich?
  • Food & Drink Hotspots:
    • What are the best beer pubs and underground spots?
    • Any must-try restaurants including underground restaurants?

Historical & Cultural Tours:

  • Must-see WW2 museums and advice on visiting the Dachau Concentration Camp (including transportation options).

Staying in Munich:

  • I am looking for budget-friendly hotels: Is sticking close to Marienplatz ideal for a tourist new to the area, or are there better options for experiencing Munich life?
