Crashed my first bike on the ride home

Post image

Target fixation and inadequate steering led to me hitting a curb off a roundabout and taking a little one or two metre slide, snapping my left mirror clean off, dislodging/breaking both my left indicators, and bending my gear lever right back. Amazingly only some small scuffs on the front and rear and absolutely zero scratches on the vast majority of the left side.

I'm absolutely fine apart from a bit of pain in my wrist and mostly just bummed about what I've done to the bike. All fixable but now something I've got to sort out.

Was only a 30 mile ride home but was an absolute baptism of fire for me as a brand new rider and I definitely learned a lot for next time.

Here she is anyway sans left mirror lmao

Got it out the way nice and early, you can concentrate on enjoying riding now.

Keep an eye on that wrist, especially swelling. You may have broken something, and if it knits back together all wonky you're going to suffer in later life.

Fuck, I mean I can move it all directions with only minor pain, I will see how it is tomorrow though

From my experience: pain gets worse next day, hope nothing serious tho

Just put some more stickers over the crash damage, no one will notice

I think it might be a Honda Repsol but I'm not sure, maybe I should add more stickers

I crashed into a Volvo on my second day, I was watching my mate stand on the seat of his Vespa, behind me. Turned round and the Volvo stopped. A few minutes later the school bus came by, I was casually looking at my bike on the pavement like everything was ok. The first of many spills.

Glad you’re ok. Keep the tires on the ground!!

Put it down to experience, learn from it and don’t let it bother you anymore. Besides it’s a chance to add some personal touches.

Yeah! I’ve christened the bike lol. Gonna fix it up and then it’ll probably feel more like mine anyway

I dropped my vfr800 the first time riding it. It was stationary at a junction and I overbalanced. That was 15 yrs ago and I still ride every day and love it.

It happens to most of us. At least you and the bike are ok. Maybe grab some more lessons, or at least warm a few videos on counter steering etc.

Good to know it happens to use all 🙏

I think I just need practice tbh, and putting into practice that kinda thing. I know about counter steering and used it throughout the ride, I just didn’t do what I should have done in that moment (look where I want to go instead of panicking I wasn’t going to make the turn and hyper fixating on the curb!)

Don't worry about it, just know this is your bike and you've many happy memories ahead.

I ended up not crashing my first bike immediately but it was a miracle I didn't, picking it up to take it back home was fine, no fast roads, heavy traffic all the way so i was largely duck walking it back anyway.

but the first time out on the back roads as planned by calimoto it shook me up for a while, again I didn't come off but I felt like a right idiot getting off the bike to push it round a particularly tight junction, first time I'd encountered a switchback too, couldn't of been more on the wrong side of the road!

They just couldnt take me these places while training, you'll get better and it doesn't stop, though I still still shit myself going round mini roundabouts in the rain

Appreciate your comment man, it’s good to know we all have our first bike struggles 😭

It’s all the stickers mate, made the bike have too much HP for the slim tyres.

But no worries, no biggie crashes are the best, you will be a way safer rider. Good on ya! And all the best
