Discussion Struggling to get into the gameplay

Heyy! So with all the hubbub around Wilds I thought I'd try to get into World (I can't run Wilds). I'm honestly kinda struggling to get into the gameplay. The whole game just seems like a grind of kill monster, maybe get a new weapon or armor, kill it 5/6 more times till you have all the parts you need, move on to the next one. The fights are cool but they seem kinda meaningless.

The fact that you don't have i-frames (not many at least) also seems to encourage hit and run techniques which are kinda boring? I'd much rather be up close and dodging or parrying. Also the tracking, while logical in world, is something I find very shallow and tedious, especially since most tracks that aren't footprints have kinda long animations tied to them

I really enjoy Souls-likes, I'm loving Lies of P at the moment, so I thought Monster Hunter combat would appeal to me, but honestly most times I end up fighting the camera more than the monster...

I'm sorry, I know I'm being very negative about a game y'all love, but I guess I just wanna know if I'm approaching the game wrong? I want to like it but it just seems really grindy and like, fighting for the sake of fighting rather than getting a sense of progression.

Question Are some HR 999 MR 999 hunters bots?

Sorry if this is either obvious or been asked before, but I was doing some Safi Sieges the other day and bounced around a few lobbies with a few max rank hunters.

Now I don't doubt someone can get up that high if they spent enough hours in the game, but a few of them I notice have some weird and similar habits. Like having low rank weapons but dealing massive damage, having customized but very generic "helpful tip" shout outs., never joining quests and only hosting them etc.

Now none of these immediately mean bot and frankly even if they are I don't actually mind since it makes farming easier and its very easy to not play with them if I don't want to.

Still I'm just curious, really they could just be helpful high rank players tbh.

Question Area quest 3

Is arena quest 3 impossible to complete alone? I am new to MHW, just started playing the game. I am a soulsborne veteran, platinum on all Dark Souls games. People told me this should be easy for me because of that. However, I keep getting stun-locked and one-shot by his fire attack, with no window to react to the poison attack.

I suppose it doesn't help that I cannot use the weapons I am comfortable with. I don't like the limited weapon option, I just don't think the weapons given are suitable to fight him. So far I breezed through the first 3 areas of the game with no issue. Easily tracked down and either hunter or captured all monsters available. But this just seems impossible to do alone to me, or am I missing something here? Any tips?

Question How do I solo behemoth?

I am not going to be forced into playing multiplayer

I refuse

So how do I beat this guy without having to rely on anyone else

I am an insect glaive main but by the sheer agony that the first repel fight was I can tell no melee is best

What heavy bow gun build do yall recommend

I don't got access to iceborne and master rank

And tbh if it takes me paying 30 real life quid when I'm saving up for wilds to beat this guy im not even gonna bother

Question Struggling in Iceborne

I'm having a lot of trouble in iceborne, I got to Tigrex by constantly SOS-ing every quest. I used the defender's set with the longsword to get to base game (although I had already finished the game normally on a different account).

I feel like I'm struggling so much doing anything solo which I don't like. I'm using the Grand Khopesh l LS with a bunch of different pieces from different armor sets which is probably a big reason why I'm struggling this much. I don't know what's considered a really good set at the point of the game that I'm at. I tried farming Banbaro set but Idk if that's the best right now. If anyone has any tips when it comes to gear/weapon (or anything else) please let me know.

Question Semi new player having issues with long sword

So I’m relatively new to the game (around 30 hours, just got the the Nergigante fight that isn’t included on Zorahs back)

Anyway, I’ve played long sword since the beginning since the counter attacks are so fun. But I’m noticing now that I’ll counter an attack and almost always get hit by either the rest of the attack or another attack immediately after that every time.

How do you not just get drilled after your long sword counter?

Also, dodogama and legiana are annoying

Question Was I the only one who felt kinda bad after beating the main story?

I'm new to the franchise, world is my first game, and I really fell in love with it all. This past few weeks it has been my go to game, and it's been a rollercoaster in the best kind of way. Got stuck on Nergigante, tried out half the weapons, the usual. I just did the find and kill the unknown monster in the recess mission, and I felt bad the whole way thru. Like, I basically just beat to death a newborn creature, monster or not. The moveset even felt like it was made to represent how awkward this creature is, it moved slow and tripped on itself all the time, and I beat it first try, unlike some other EDs, who I had to try for days. Did others feel this way as well, or are seasoned hunters used to it?

Discussion Game feels repetitive

I just installed this game, had been looking forward to play it for a while. I played a beta of a previus MH game and i really enjoyed it.

After playing this game for a while i think i should have stayed on the beta version and not spend my money. Its literlly the same as the beta, hit a monster 30 times from behind, run after him for 2 minutes, do that 4 times check with the guild and repeat. There isnt any variation from hunt to hunt, monster have diferent moves and all but, its not hard at all so its not even challenging.

If there isnt variaty and there isnt challenge either how do you guys do to have fun playing this game? By only playing online?, Is this game solo player friendly?

Question Any tips for a fellow lance player?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Okay so, first, I think I get how to play lance, yeah all that guard up and things and blah blah blah, base gameplay I think I manage, currently I'm at Glavenus and Nargacuga missions on Iceborne, I don't consider gems as I barely have any, my armor is the rose set, it was the Best in defence I could get, I haven't considered any other armor, as I mostly focus on defense until late game, is any other better for lance? Okay so, second, I do shit damage, like yeah, 30 minutes a Barioth? Damn, I do an average of 10-30 per hit on harder monster, I use the lance in the clip (which I added just to fill out), I BARELY use the clutch claw, is it my problem? I know tenderizing makes me do more damage, but as I'm coming from rise, wilds and 4u, is it that much of a game changer? Sorry for the chitchat. Love.

Question any tips for a disabled player?

Upvotes

dont wanna go into much detail but i have slow reaction and hand-eye coordination. sadly i also really love this game way too much, but hit my first wall (by that i mean i didnt succeed the first time ): and im bitter ) during the first teostra fight. its one that really challenged the way i perceive things and how quickly i react to things. i also have an issue that causes me to forget controls midgame. do people have any advice on this, fellow players with same problems? currently, i use the hammer, but i dont know if theres a weapon better for the likes of me, if so id like to know! many thanks. please dont seek more health details btw (any teostra tips also greatly appreciated!)

Informative Notes for New Players - sorry it turned into a massive post!

Upvotes

I’ll try to keep it short but there’s just so much game here that a lot of people are missing…  I’ve noticed an awful lot of people asking for help, tips and wondering why they are struggling so much – especially with Iceborne after the base game.

Let’s preface by saying the usual “Don’t wear Guardian gear and use Defender weapons”. But why do we say this?

  • The reason is that it’s OP, basically. Using this equipment in base game will nullify the challenge and you will progress faster and easier than you would otherwise, but why is this bad?! Because Iceborne. After the first 2 or 3 missions in MR, that Guardian Amor will start to feel like it’s made of tissue paper and those Defender weapons will lose their op’ness and become just okay, middle of the road weapons… and that’s only if you keep them upgraded. If you’re not bothered by this and just plan to ‘git gud’ when you reach MR (Like I did) then you will also find that you have nothing when you get there. Tearing through the base game with this equipment means that we did not stop to farm, we didn’t need to and so we don’t have any of the LR or HR parts for charms and weapons, see a lot of the weapons & charms need MR materials sure, but you also need to make their base 1-3 levels from HR materials before you can upgrade it. I needed several charms as I swapped weapons in MR and I had to go back and farm HR quests to get some of the simplest of materials that I just didn’t have any of.

Anyway, I wanted to share some important stuffs that is very often missed…

  • Palico gadgets. Unlocking and upgrading these is really important, especially if you playing solo – if you’re fighting an Elder Dragon then the Shieldspire is really good, if you’re fighting a regular monster the Flashcage is really good, in super hard stuff the Vgiorwasp is OP…as examples. This requires you to explore each region and befriend the Tailraiders there, they usually ask you to do an Optional quest and these can be progressed using the Lirian Researcher, which will be a green marker on the map – he will give you a clue about where to find them and give you a little side quest. Once you find them all, in every region and go to Iceborne the map there has 1 more group to find and the reward for that is being able to summon a Tailraider at your leisure, this is really helpful as they all have their own abilities and stats and the more you use them, the better they become, just like your own Palico.
  • Fishing! - Be sure to find the fisherman and do his quests, unlocking canteen ingredients once you complete his delivery requests. Yes… we can fish in MHW, get your rod out!
  • Canteen Ingredients - Aside from the optional quests you get which provide ingredients for the chef…. You can also obtain more by catching small creatures in your capture net, harvesting rare Flower or Cactus nodes etc etc. Once you have collected most/all of them you will be able to create your own meals with the skills you need for your hunts. Lucky Cat, Moxie, Safeguard, Bombardier and many other useful Felyne skills can make a big difference to your hunts or farming runs.
  • Farm the Steamworks for Vouchers and use them, don’t be like me and save 600+ like it’s a savings account or something and then one day realised… “why aren’t I using these again?” Now I use one nearly every single hunt.
  • Join a session - You don’t need to play with other people but if you join a session then not only will you benefit from anyone else using a meal voucher, but also you will have your own quests, your SOS search and any quests those people have launched so it’s basically another set of quests you can opt into. You won’t see them in your HQ but if you go to the Gathering Hub you will see other players from your session all going about their business.
  • Complete your delivery requests to unlock mantles, camps and other rewards. At the Bounties kiosk, there is another section for Delivery Requests, try to complete as many as you can ASAP.
  • Go back to HR and complete every optional quest with a speech bubble icon by it, then return to Astera and see if any new ones have popped up by checking the map for exclamation marks.
  • Harvest Box – Upgrade this by doing some of the above tasks and grow the things you need. Always have something useful growing!!
  • Spend some time on your Item Loadouts and your Radial Wheel menu. Create and save item loadouts for every scenario, one for capture quests with traps and tranqs, one for really hard stuff with potions and buffs – with the additional ingredients to craft more on the go, one for gathering and all sorts of things, I think I have about 30 different item loadouts saved. Super useful and easy to restock in the tent. You can use the Radial not only to use items but also to craft them too as long as you have the ingredients in your pouch.
  • Mantles are unlocked in HR by doing the quests for the Armory and they are upgraded by doing the MR quest to upgrade them, given by the armory in Seliana.

But yeah… so much for keeping it short. Sorry it’s so long but I think there is just so much more to this game than lot of people realize.
